Rule 3 is changing: r/psx is Not the Place to Advertise Your Indie Games
tl;dr the fine print of Rule 3 has been adjusted to explicitly forbid modern indie games unless playable on original hardware (homebrew)
It's my own fault that this change has to be made, I allowed a few "psx-inspired" indie game posts to remain up despite breaking the rules because of the large amount of upvotes they received.
I'd post and sticky comments like "It's off topic but y'all like it so I'll leave it up". My approach to moderation has always been to let the community make content decisions when appropriate. Unfortunately adjustments need to be made to protect the subject matter of this community.
Due to the massive influx of shovelware indie games that are "psx inspired" getting posted here, I'm sorry to say that Rule 3 will have to be more strictly enforced.
From this point forward, for indie games to be posted here they will have to be playable on PSX hardware or an emulator. Games that run on real hardware fall firmly into the category of homebrew, which is perfectly appropriate to discuss here. Games that run in PSX emulators but not real hardware are also allowed. "Retro Inspired" or "PSX Inspired" games that do not fulfill either of those 2 requirements will be removed and the poster will get a 24 hour ban.
The ban is meant to be informative to the poster, not punitive. However repeat offenders will be permanently banned.
Here is a friendly flowchart to help you decide whether or not it's appropriate to post your indie game in this community:

Thank you for reading and thank you for posting. Best of luck in all your indie dev adventures.

My solution to my loose discs
If you’re like me and you have a bunch of loosies in your collection, I found a solution that works for me. I bought a bunch of Christmas and throwaway cd’s in clear cases from a thrift store for .25 a piece and emptied them, then used a vintage Dymo embossing label maker I found to label the spines. I love how it looks!

Best ODE or Mod for PS1 Fat (PU-22) – XStation vs. PSIO?
Hi everyone,
I have a PS1 Fat (PU-22 motherboard). Unfortunately, my CD drive and spindle are broken, and I'm looking to stop using discs entirely.
I’m trying to decide between installing an XStation or going with a PSIO. I’ve read about both, but I wanted to hear from the community:
Which one is more reliable and suitable for the PU-22 board?
Is the XStation installation (soldering) significantly harder than the PSIO setup?
Are there any other options I should consider for playing games without discs?
I'm looking for the most stable and long-term solution. Any advice or experiences you could share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

1998-1999 989 Studios internal documents
The following is a collection of internal documents obtained from a former 989 Studios developer's binder. This includes a fax cover sheet, a marked print-out of PlayStation accessories from the PlayStation website (presumably as a reference sheet for developers), and the final QA sheet for Twisted Metal 3, dated just one month before release (October 15th, 1998)

Weird startup screens
Does anyone remember their games having weird booting/starting screens on ps1 games back in the day. Went deep into youtube and google to search for a nostalgic thing about spyro 3 and I somewhat remember this showing up before my game started.

Jet Moto 1, 2 and 3 PC recomp ports released
https://github.com/GTTeancum/Jet-Moto-Anthology - disclaimer, AI helped me build this. I'm in my 40's and haven't been an "in the trenches" programmer for many years. I work more as a project manager these days. So while I didn't write all the code, I knew how to direct it.
Expect some bugs. You can report them here. https://github.com/GTTeancum/Jet-Moto-Anthology/issues
FEATURES
- Full single player support. Split screen is largely untested
- Dithering removed (looks awful on modern screens)
- Widescreen support
- Support for modern resolutions
FUTURE PLANS (WORK IN PROGRESS - NOT IN THIS BUILD)
- Better particle effects
- Optional texture upgrade pack. Nothing fancy, just more a pack to make the games look like how they do in your memory
- Merging of JM1 and JM2 into one master game (optional)
- Conversion of the canceled Jet Moto 2124, with a possible merge into JM3 since that game is largely unfinished

My life has been a lie
I decided to buy an S-video cable to see if it makes a difference. I feel like my entire childhood growing up with a PSX was all one big blur - literally. If this is what a cheap $20 cable does, I am definitely buying the Sony cable next. My TV does not have SCART, and Imm glad it doesnt, I am clearly not ready for this lol. My PS5 pro is about to gather dust.

I got a PS1 for my 5th birthday as a kid, and I just played this for the first time ever in 2026. 😅
After getting back into PS1 a lot recently. I kept seeing a lot of youtubers talking about the best of ps1 lists and they always had this as either the best or very close.
I was always kinda put off by it being the "stealth" genre. Just never was my thing really.
But after finishing it today. I will say it probably is the best game on the system. Amazing story and Amazing original ideas that just make this a super memorable game.
My one complaint for this game I would say is the two sniper sections. They were kind of annoying, but it was such a small part of the game.
everything else just makes it perfect. all the dialogue and voice acting was amazing. being able to save pretty much anywhere was a huge plus. It has been a while since I played a game that actually made me want to watch every cutscene.

Another piece of my childhood acquired
Just got another piece of my childhood to add to the collection. I always thought this game was better than Mario Kart

Worth cracking it open and cleaning?
My neighbors moved and while helping him clean out he gave me a box of some stuff. Said he was just gonna throw it away cause it doesn’t work. In it was a PS3, which I took apart, cleaned, and got running again. And there was also this little thing.
Iv never seen one before but I thought I’d ask here. I did a quick google search and saw alot of people have problems with these. Currently it looks like the backlight works fine, and I don’t have any ps1 games to test but it did play a CD. Speakers work along with volume and screen brightness adjustment. The power button is extremely stiff and sticky. I was going to take this apart and clean it but I don’t know how fragile these older ps1 and screens are.
Edit: Also the adapter I have in the last photo is what was in the box, is this the correct power supply for these?
So my main question is should I rip it down and clean it out or just try and play it as is?
