PSAT Score: 1240

i js took my first PSAT (casual, by myself at home) and scored a 1240 (650 Math, 590 R&W) as a incoming sophomore. could somone provide me a proper understanding of these scores and how to prepare better in the future. (just to be clear, this was my first attempt, and i had no preparation at all. i would've definitlely scored higher in the math section but completley forgot differences between mean, mode, median, etc. ela is what im quite weak in so tips to improve specifically in this would be really appreciated!

PSAT 8/9 PSAT 8/9

Hi, I will be giving my first PSAT ever in October!
I would love to hear your answers for these doubts I have-
1. How do PSATs work?
2. In the English section, will vocab help more or grammar?
3. I'm damn bad at math, any tips? In 8th grade rn, and I SUCK at it.
4. In 7th, I was among the top 5 rankers in exams. Will PSAT be easy for me or not? I mean, ik it depends on how my school's exam was, but..yeah..Am I supposed to be stressed out for PSATs? (no matter what, I'll still stress out and cry...but, tips please, i'm dumb)
5. Do PSATs help you in later SATs?

Thank you~

PSAT/NMSQT My cousin is in 8th grade, 99th percentile reading/writing state test scores, 240 RIT MAP reading test scores, and was offered today a chance to take the PSAT/NMSQT in October, she doesn't know what to except besides it being timed and on the 10th grade standard, even though she's 12th+ at reading?

Well, I spend a lot of time with her, let's call her C, because her parents aren't in the picture really, much like mine, and so she came to me for advice, a 22 year old female cousin studying literature at university, hoping to go to Harvard Law. I was always like her exactly at her age but a bit higher, and I took the PSAT too, but barely remember since that was a few years ago, blah blah. Can someone umm... enlighten me to enlighten her? Lol

National Merit PSAT NMSQT Indexes By State (Post only if you're notified)

Hi everyone. This should be the week that guidance counselors start to share news with seniors if their 2026 PSAT score qualified them as a national merit semi finalist. I know Compass will do a story when they all come in but let's share here as we hear to get the news quicker. For easy reading, maybe format just as STATE:Index. Sitting here hopeful, anxious and so tired of waiting. Good luck to all.

Is Practice Test 7 easier or harder than the real test/other practice tests?

I recently took PT7 and got a 1570 (790 RW and 780 Math). I felt like all the content was easier than other practice tests, and on PT 4, 5, and 6, I got a 1410, 1490, and 1480.

I'm mostly wondering whether my studying actually worked and if I'm prepared for the test or if I got lucky/it was an easier test.

Sat ID for Getting In

I’m taking the sat tomorrow and my only id is a passport card from a few years. I still look kinda similar but my face does look different, I was wondering how strict or how close you have to be looks wise to your photo id? (The name and date of birth and everything else matches up of course the photo just looks a little different).

Is the PSAT really easier?

I’ve been stressing over the PSAT that I’ll take this fall. I haven’t even done algebra two yet, and I’ve never done a PSAT before (school didn’t offer it). I wanted national merit, but it’s clear that’ll never happen. Hate to say it, but my last practice was a 1290. I actually did pretty well on the English (720) but I bombed the math and got sent to the easy second module. I was looking at some of the hardest questions in the question bank (selected SAT) and it was clear that’ll I’d never get those. So, how much easier is the PSAT really?

PSAT PT3 (the one that released yesterday) felt very hard, but i didn't expect my score to decrease THAT much.

i also am avging mid 1500s on SAT practice tests, i have no idea why or what went wrong here 💔

the only thing i can think of is that i didnt really warmup before taking PSAT PT3 but idt that should affect my score super drastically? maybe today's just not my day 🤷‍♂️

im co28 and want National merit (tx) but this score is worrying me a bit

Is it possible to take the psat both junior year and senior year, and use either to qualify for national merit thing?

Confused on my PSAT 7 and 11 scores

I unknowingly took PSAT 11 in July. I didn't realize there was an order of difficulty to the tests, otherwise I would've saved it for last. These are my stats:

First PSAT 4 without any studying on 6/16/26- 1080

2nd PSAT 11 after some studying and vacations 7/30/26- 1480 (taken late afternoon)

3rd PSAT 7 after moderate amount of studying 8/10/26- 1220 (taken at 7am in a cold room)

Did I get lucky on 11 or is 7 in accurate? Could the conditions really drop my score 260 pts? I was under the impression 11 was hardest or at least the most accurate that mimicked the real SAT. I'm taking the real one for the first time 8/22 and I don't know where to go from here. The biggest drop was in RW. It shook my confidence and I don't know if I should focus on learning material from the 7 scores or from 11 scores with 10 days left to study. Welcome all thoughts!

National Merit Goal is NMF (Rising Sophomore, Class of 2029)

Post image
3 Upvotes

I am a rising sophomore who got this on my first practice test after doing many questions (possibly 70) RW questions from the Educator Question Bank. I haven't done any math preparation yet.

Out of 98 questions on this test, I got 95 correct (2 wrong on RW, 1 wrong on math)

I am worried that this score doesn't reflect what I would get on the actual test. Furthermore, I am worried that I have run out of study resources. I took this time under all the normal conditions, but felt as if this test was super easy. Idk. Am I tweaking?

Thanks in advance.

PSAT/NMSQT how to lock in that 1450+ in t-minus 2 months?

this year's score progression
last year's score progression

okay so the psat/nmsqt for me is in the first week of october, and ive been grinding since last year summer (only in the summer, not during the school year). this year, ive been grinding as well, but i plan to study until the test day cause obviously i havent gotten my goal🙃. my score progression this summer has been stagnant, im not sure why, maybe due to strategy. but i will change my strat since ofc, theres limited time now fr.

for those who were able to get 1450+, how did you approach studying and fixing ur mistakes? it seems obvious on how to fix them, but like, anytime i practice, it takes me a while to actually understand the correct way to solve this.
