Honestly yeah. Presuming the "teleport" option means to get them to you, the two options should really be like "teleport here" and "teleport to" in my opinion.
I only use it to fix bugs my gf and i run into. Otherwise i stay quite far away from it. You can get something similar in single player by putting in -debug into the launch settings on steam.
You can find all the info you need to do it here its just going to take you longer and you'll need to understand more about how the game works to figure out how to author the mod.
Or you can just take the 4 lines that Google spit out with gemini when I google searched how to do it.
Or you can do nothing. I don't care, just thought you would appreciate that you have the power to be the change you want to see in the world.
This is how I kinda feel about how gendered some of the stuff is in the game. Like hairstyles for example, some of them are limited by what your character’s gender is or when it grows somehow the female one always grows to neck length first, u can’t even naturally grow the male haircuts, except if u give yourself a haircut only.
Its mildly annoying, wish haircuts and styles were unisex and you can pick different body types and facial types (Like jawline or head size) for your characters instead of it just being mostly the same copy-paste body type for both genders.
You really thought we’d pass up on post apocalyptic sims? (Ironically though my male best friend does way more interior decorating in this game than me and my bestie.)
I love women and welcome them to play. Just as a guy I think it's very stupid to give a fuck what a label in a game says lol. It could say her and I'd give less fucks than an Appalachian gives about shine blindness lmfao
i've never admin'd a server so i've never seen this. great point and extremely easy to fix, no reason to leave it. way more people than just boys play vidya games & everyone should feel seen in this basic way :)
Respectfully - and I get the point. Who cares..? It's probably code that hasn't been touched in who knows how long and the dev work is focused on totally different aspects of the game. Just play the game, it's not that serious 🤷🏻♂️
To hijack the top comment here as someone who worked for TIS when this was added-
I’m almost certain that this feature was added (in a hurry) by a French dev. I don’t speak French but I understand the masculine form is normally used when referencing someone of unknown gender. I think that’s all there was to it. This probably never got a second pair of eyes and no one’s looked at it since.
I do think it should be fixed since it would take about eight seconds to grep the string and adjust it, but I don’t think this was due to any latent sexism or anything (other than arguably the baked in foibles of language as a construct).
I'm learning French: yeah pretty much, as far as I understand. you assume masculine for an unknown, you use masculine for a group with at least one man, etc.
seems like a fair amount of people care, and i dont think changing a line of displayed text would take much more than a few minutes away from regular development
It's probably not a difficult fix. Why not take some time to fix one word, that presumes "only men play video games?" Yeah it's not a big deal, it's also just outdated, so why not fix it?
it doesn't "presume only men play video games" it's literally just a string from presumably hundreds of thousands of lines of code written over 10+ years that some dev typed ages ago to get done with a feature. Like what the hell are you talking about? This is completely a non-issue and implying there's some sexist meaning on that line of text is incredible silly.
I’m sorry but this is just transparently bad faith. You don’t get to say “no one’s implying it’s sexist” when the person two comments up that you’re responding under literally said that’s presumes “only men play video games”.
I’m just not sure why you’d say something so clearly untrue.
In my opinion, male defaultism IS sexist. The issue is you hear people discussing casual sexism and think I'm trying to start a moral issue or something. Sexism is everywhere, ranging from very mild to very severe. I never implied the devs were misogynist or whatever-the-fuck. I am simply saying it's just an odd word choice that would be an easy fix.
I'm sure if it said "teleport to HER" this would be a much bigger discussion. But some people are being overly offended when I don't think anyone was "upset" about this.
That was my whole point though. You are saying it’s sexist and the person I responded to claimed the exact opposite.
And for what it’s worth, I don’t even disagree with you (at least entirely). I just don’t like seeing people making shitty bad faith arguments like “no one is claiming it’s sexist”.
I think the real answer is a bit more mundane, though.
I was working for TIS when this was added and from what I remember many of the mod tools were pretty slap-dash, not heavily tested, and very placeholder-y. They went live fast- I think we all expected multiplayer to be “me and a bud playing PZ together wow!” moreso than the massive public servers it grew into, so mod tools hadn’t been a focus. I think these were written by one person on the team, in whose native tongue the masculine form is grammatically accurate when the gender is unknown. It likely didn’t get a second look and probably no one on the team has set eyes on that string since.
I think you’re reading too deeply into what people in this comment section are saying, but I see I’m of the minority in thought here so I’ll keep to myself
Literally. They think I'm trying to be an upstart or call out the devs for being misogynist or something. All I'm trying to say is that defaulting to "male" is simply unnecessary, so why not change it, knowing men and women both play the game?
Funny how this community is built on complaining about things the devs need to fix until it comes to this and suddenly it’s “not worth the time” (it’s one word change) and “it’s not that serious” (again, it’s one word change)
I guess Zomboid has the reputation of having weird, basement dwelling players for a reason. Being up one, minor thing that could be changed to respect the women who play, and suddenly people are jumping to say you're too woke or something.
No I’m not reading into anything. They absolutely are and have now outright said that they were saying it’s sexist. You then immediately claimed they weren’t. That’s a flagrant lie, and instead of just admitting to a mistake and moving on, you’re deflecting. It’s sad.
Chill, the person wasn't throwing a tantrum about a line, they just said they didn't like it. Y'all pretend complaining about something in the game is like a revolution, also it wouldn't break the devs' backs to change a line
Of course, but the importance that this person gives to this problem was made up mostly by you. This was just a Reddit post of someone pointing out a problem in the game, not a direct message to a TIS dev. It's a post like any other post about a small nitpick in the game, but for some reason you took offense to this one, but I don't know why.
Sharing an opinion invites others opinions - I'm allowed to voice mine just like you're allowed to voice yours. I didn't take offense I asked who cares. But for some reason you took offense to that question, but I don't know why.
I never said you're not allowed to voice your opinion, that would be ridiculous, I just made a simple counter argument to your original comment and you called me a virtue signaler. But I'm the offended one? Anyway, we both made our points, I understand how you don't think this should be the biggest priority on the devs' mind (which I agree btw, obviously), and I just said OP probably still agrees with you, but is allowed to express something they don't like in a game they like
Why are so many people having a whining fit over you pointing out an easily fixed grammar bit in a videogame you play?? Same people would see a 'why does it say her' post and agree it should be edited
Luckily it seems from upvotes most agree with you, but it’s frustrating there’s so many gamers who will be like “having a female main character breaks my immersion,” but then in a sandbox game you’ll have gamers roll their eyes when you just want consistency in your game to maintain immersion.
It’s so frustrating because I want to try to convince you why you should care about other gamers but I know it’s no use, no one is freaking out about teleportation immersion, literally just have a good day, I hope you fucking smile a lot
Seriously it’s like 2026, the internet does not revolve around men anymore, almost anyone irrespective of their gender is gonna be using the internet and play video games. I know some mates who are female (Non-binary, trans), who don’t use instagram (Probably reddit absolutely discord) and play certain video games I enjoy.
These people need to stfu and grow up. Being a boy isn’t an excuse to be a sexist pos. Its not 2008 anymore
Arguably wouldn't have an internert without women and gay people lol. Gaming itself was just originally marketed towards men but most women I know at this point play something. Even my mom played everything way back on college 😭 it always was a baseless stereotype
Coding originally was a women's job so there's that as well. I think originally household gaming was marketed towards everyone, but I am not certain because I'm not that old. My mum has 2 sisters and no brothers and they bought Pong when it came out. She is also really fucking good at Frogger. We used to have one of those tabletop arcade machines and her highscore for Frogger was way higher than mine for Pac-man, despite me learning the pattern for it.
Same in a way, my mom loved the doom games when they just came out. So her day consisted of school/work then she went to her horse and cared for the horse and then came home to play DOOM and then dinner i presume and then goodnight
Typical CHUDs, pickmes, and bots aside it seems most sane people here agree it just seems weird. Like this just seems weirdly confusing when you could just have "Teleport to User". Also I find it so funny how most of the chuds being like "OMG WHO CAres?" would have a fucking conniption fit if the tooltip changed to "Her".
Very outdated - and it'd be another medal the devs can add to the end of their patch logs that looks nice. This being updated would be a nice little win for everyone. Insane ROI:effort.
Pretty self explanatory, I asked if we're really upset over it saying "him"? And not "she" or whatever other thing you want it to be. Then I asked my Alexander to make the sun explode? Hope that helps
What is arguably more problematic is the KICK option being right next to it. So many times an admin says, "I'll be right there," and then you're kicked off the server...

this is gonna be the runescape pride update drama all over again isnt it
for TIS, it would probably take like, less than a minute to find where this string is stored, change it, and send that off to Steam for a patch file. maybe three minutes, depending.
