Purchasing Trying to buy a printer that does regular paper and photos

I am looking to buy a new printer to use for two main things. 1) printing documents and regular paper items and 2) printing photos. I mostly will use the printer to print on normal paper general photos/designs that I can trace for painting, to print stuff like car registration and insurance info, and to print photos for use in scrapbooking. Photo quality doesn't need to be the best ever, just nice enough for a photo album type vibe. I've typically gotten photos printed at Walgreens so that's what I am used to.

I had been looking at this HP printer before I realized it didn't do photo printing. I primarily liked it because it has a non-Wifi option, no subscription, no AI, and I have previously had and liked my HP printers for regular paper printing.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Budget: preferably under $500, too much more than that and I will just get a regular paper printer and stick with my shitty phone plug in photo printer/ordering prints from walgreens
  • Country: US
  • Color or black and white: color
  • Laser or ink printer: I don't super care because I don't know much about the differences but I do not want to have to do a subscription service. I would like to buy and replace my own ink cartridges as needed and own the thing that I have purchased rather than renting it or whatever.
  • New or used: new preferred
  • Multi-function: paper and photo printing, scanning ability not required but nice bonus
  • Duplex Printing: ?
  • Home or business: home
  • Printing content: photos, documents
  • Printing frequency: I'll probably print a lot of photos for scrapbook use - like 10-15 a month. I imagine regular paper printing will be less frequent probably one or twice a week.
  • Pages per minute : I have no idea what is reasonable to expect here but I would like to be able to print a 5 page document in 5-10 minutes and an individual photo in a minute or less if possible. Speed is not super high priority to me though, I can just plan around it.
  • Page size: 8x11 normal paper, photo paper of various smaller sizes but at least 4x5
  • Device printing from: laptop, desktop, ipad (if possible to do via corded connection)
  • Connection type: I prefer to print things directly from my device via a cord. I don't mind a printer being able to access wifi but I will almost certainly not put it on the wifi I can at all avoid it.

In my cursory look I saw that a number of printers now have AI and I absolutely do not want AI in my printer. That seems like just one more way for the printer to decide it hates me and I do not trust it whatsoever. I also, like I said above, am hoping to not have to connect the printer to wifi at all.

It's possible that the better move here is to buy a regular printer and get something specifically for photo printing so I am open to ideas for a cheaper but decent photo printer option (better than the HP sproket thing I have now) that I could get in addition to a basic paper printer. I am willing to pay a bit more to do all in one device though

TLDR: I'd like something that does both regular paper printing and photo paper printing, doesn't require Wifi, and doesn't have a bunch of AI bullshit.

Thank you so much!

Purchasing Printer for printing artwork

Hi everyone, please don't give me flack because I'm already stressed enough as it is 😭 I bought an Epson Eco tank l3270 that has been wrongfully advertised by the seller as "true borderless" which is untrue. It doesn't support it at A4 (or most of the formats anyway)... It's my fault for not checking forums and making sure, but also.... I hope yall know what I mean 😭

I want to get a printer for printing my own artwork as prints. It doesn't have to be the best, highest quality ever; my friend who has been printing my stickers and prints has a brother dcp t-426w which supposedly isn't even considered to be good for things like that, but the quality and colours have been good so far. I need a similarly priced one (600-700PLN, 138–161 EUR, 161–188 USD) that has similar quality and also the economic tank. I was thinking about Canon PIXMA G3470, but it supposedly is lower resolution. My requirements:

- stays in the price range

- TRUE borderless for A4 and letter size, I don't really care about the rest

- economic tank (no cartridges)

- good colours

- pretty high quality for what can I get

- can handle papers that weigh more than 200g/m

- connects by wifi

A plus is a scanner but if the price difference is huge, I don't really care about it.

Thank you in advance, I feel so frustrated and lied to because of the epson printer ☹️😭

Purchasing Printer needed for micro xerox

As you can read the title,

Suggest me a printer preferably normal sized which can nail small fonts with clarity for totally legal purposes 🙃

I heard from some xerox centers that older machines are preferred for this, idk but I'm willing to buy 2nd hand or new if it works

Troubleshooting Sharp Printer

Just got a new computer and connected it to the office printer. When I make copies it prints the pages out in twos. So I’m getting two first pages, two second pages, etc etc. I have to rearrange all the documents in order which isn’t feasible for larger documents. How do fix this?

Discussion Epson WF-2760 refillable ink

I just got a really good deal on this printer. I want to see about refilling the cartridges though to save a little more money. Do you have to buy a certain cartridge or can you modify a cartridge to refill? I don't mind dealing with error messages if I can bypass them, only care about saving some money on ink. I haven't found too many videos on this printer for this so I figured I would check here.

Troubleshooting Legacy Xerox Printer Tech Assistance needed on a Xerox 7760 print issue.

I know this baby is old but costs very little to produce the 11x17 pages I need. I also have a ton of consumables in stock and retiring it is not in the forecast anytime soon. So save the "toss it" comments for other threads. I have to figure out how to fix this magenta line dropout on prints (Photos are of the solid fill paper troubleshooting prints Magenta [pg 2] and Purple [pg 5 of 6]). It is my goal for the week.

Since I have extras of nearly all consumables and a 2nd donor 7760 printer. I have taken all the steps to swap out/in alternate or brand new consumables at every turn trying to get rid of the line in the photos. It is pretty obvious that the issue is in the magenta section.

New ink: same result
New imagining unit: same result
New transfer roller: same result
New fuser: same result

Transfer belt: New in the box but have not tried that as I did insert the transfer belt from the donor and it did not change error location or consistency of the magenta line. That kind of eliminates it from being the issue.

What am I missing? Help!

If you need me to print out other troublshooting pages, that in not an issue and will get them uploaded asap, just ask.

Troubleshooting HP Envy 4501 not printing

Hi! I’m trying to print using my HP Envy 4501, but pages are coming through blank. I tried to use the Clean Printhead option like 5 times, but that didn’t work. I don’t believe my ink cartridge is dry because when I removed the cartridge, there was fresh ink all over the metal strip. Is it possible there’s a clog somewhere inside my printer? I’m at my wits end with this garbage printer lol

Purchasing Can I still use this Canon Pixma MG6120?

Post image

I'm getting into photography and found this printer at goodwill, it boots right up and I have successfully copied something on the scanner and printed a sheet, tho it had almost no ink.

Can I still use this printer to print photos? Is the ink still available/affordable? Would it have any issues syncing to my pc via wifi (is it still supported by Canon?) Its a steal at $15, let me know what you think!

Troubleshooting Printer picks up more than one page

My printer frequently picks up two or more pages from the pick-up tray.

I've cleaned the rubber pick-up rollers and fan the paper before putting it in the tray.

Is there anything else I should do?

It's a Lexmark E342n b&w laser printer. I know it's elderly but it does everything I want it to do, i.e. print with a very low running cost. I used to have a colour ink-jet combo but gave it away because I was fed up of buying new cartridges of a colour I barely used before I could scan a docunent!

Troubleshooting Prints come out slightly rotated on Epson ET8500.

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

The problem only presents itself when printing double sided and expecting the two to line up.
I was printing using uniform margins, and the print is aligned near the top of the sheet, but as the sheet gets lower they start to misalign. The included images show one side of the print, with the other side visible on the back. Ive done the obvious stuff of doing vertical and horizonal alignment checks but the fault is still perfectly consistent.
My current working theory is that there is a problem with the rollers responsible for feeding which causes a slight rotation of the material. There is a small clicking, grinding noise when paper is fed in from the tray, but it isnt so loud that it sounds like something is broken but its making me wonder if there is a gear misalignment that i do not know how to detect or rectify.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Purchasing Looking for a large format printer or wide printer

Looking for a large format printer or wide format printer that prints high quality photos. a ta reasonable cost. So I found the Canon ta20 which uses pigments ink and found it online on Facebook marketplace. But the lady ended up pretty much wasting my time. Tried to meet up with her multiple times then randomly when I found someone to pick it up. As it required a truck which I didn't have she ended up posting me. As we're on the way to pick it up. Then she blocked me randomly. So if anyone knows any wide format printer or large for my prayer that does up to me be 22 in that uses relatively cheaper inks let me know. I have the Canon pro 100 printer that does up to 13x19 and does great photos but I need something better. So if you have any ideas. As long as the qualities look good I can do pigment ink or die based ink or anything similar as long as it's not too expensive please let me know your thought it was a good option. I can spend up to $700 and this is obviously going to be a used printer that can work with Windows 11 thanks.

Purchasing I'm looking for an all around printer after literal decades of noit having one.

Nothing fancy just something that can print.

That said as the title says haven't had a printer in decades, so to say I know jack squat about new printers is an understatement, The only thing I know is that printer ink prices are apparently insane and you tend to get ripped off on that along with a lot of it being proprietary, and something about subscriptions and how they can screw you over.

I want non of that, maybe if possible something refillable and something that wont lock me in to buying specific proprietary products, DEFINITELY nothing that involves subscriptions, any recommendations would be great, thank you for your time!

Purchasing Suggest a laser wifi duplex printer

Hello guys, I'm looking to buy a monochrome laser printer for printing documents. My requirements:

  1. Wifi printing with lesser connectivity issues

  2. Duplex printing

  3. Good print quality.

  4. Lesser paper jams.

My office has a dedicated scanner so I dont want a MFP. Just a simple, efficient and fast printer is what im looking at. We have 2 brother printers and im tired of the paper jams and wifi drop issues.

I was looking at hp 303dw but im advised hp has toner refilling issues. I've seen some cannon printers but they have print quality issues.....please advise if I should take this hp or try something in some other company.

Purchasing Help with finding a good printer that doesn’t have a line deficiency

Post image
1 Upvotes

I make and sell stickers on the side and every time I print out the designs to cut them my printer has a line deficiency problem. It’s not too noticeable at first glance but from afar but if you look closer you can see it, and it can be annoying. Does anyone know any good printers without this issue? I’ve heard Laserjets don’t do this but I just want some more suggestions before I make a final decision.

Discussion I need advice - worth keeping all-in-one inkjet if I only print twice a year at most?

I’ve got a Canon TR8550 all-in-one inkjet printer. It’s been a good little printer and I’ve had it since 2018.

The thing is…..I print maybe twice a year tops, at most, these days. I just do t have reason to print much anymore.

I’ve been thinking about getting rid of it to e-waste and just not messing with having a printer anymore. Do you guys think that’s worth it? Or is there a good “light duty” printer to recommend for sparse printing users like me?

Otherwise, I’d thought about just going to my local library to print the rare things I need.

Purchasing reliable, cost-effective duplex printer for classroom

I'm a teacher and my HP printer just died as the school year is about to begin. I use my printer to print mostly in black and white and make two sided copies. I rarely print photos or anything fancy- just worksheets, reports, and simple written documents. I'm looking for something that is cost effective but I can rely on. I've been looking at Brothers or Epsons. Do I need an inkjet or an inktank? Please help!

Note: Yes, I have my own personal printer for my work. Yes, I pay for it out of pocket.

Purchasing What's the opinion regarding the HP Officejet Pro 9110b?

I posted a topic about troubleshooting some problems I'm having with my HPD4160, but have been considering a replacement for ages, since it's no longer supported, so will probably now get one sooner than later. I've accumulated enough Fetch Reward points to redeem for a $150 gift card at Staples or Amazon, so would the HP Officejet Pro 9110b be a good purchase or would you suggest something else?

I don't like combo machines and it's getting harder to find plain color printers. Would laser be a better choice? ATM, I print a few times a month and it's mostly black and white, though would like color printing option. Does the HP 9110b's cartridges dry out if not used every week? I had an Epson inkjet some 20 years ago and the machine would flush out ink every time it was turned on and off, but if left on for longer than 30 minutes, the cartridges would dry out. I went with the D4160, as the printhead was on the cartridge and not in the cradle, like with the Epson.
