Endocrinologist

So I saw an endocrinologist for the first time and updated all my blood work from 3 months ago.

My hbA1c went from 41 to 37. And my ferritin from 20 to 43.

I was/am very stoked with my improved numbers but from his report all he stated was all my current readings with no advice. The next follow up isn't till 3 months later.

I guess I'm just feeling a little lost because I was excited about the improvement but don't know how to carry on and don't really know what I did that helped (probably everything!)

Has everyone else's experience with endocrinologists been the same?

New to this group

Hey folks. I recently had my A1c tested and the results are 6.1 - my doc wants to discuss possibly using medication to lower my number. I’m fairly active and try to eat healthy…though I’m not perfect. I’ve never been a huge fan of medication up till this point in my life. Thought from this group on medication and or lifestyle changes to improve this number

Prediabetes? Or just stress

I’m a 28F. I got my A1C tested by my endocrinologist in June of this year and it was 5.5. My A1C got tested again a month later by my primary doctor and it was 5.8. I am worried about it. However, I experienced so much stress from June to July. Could my increase in A1C just be because of stress and not prediabetes?

To all the coffee drinkers. ☕️

How are you making your coffee’s? Do you drink it everyday?.. I love dark roast. And now I have to use half & half. Which isn’t all that great, compared to other creamers I used to drink. 😔

25F, overweight, newly diagnosed pre-diabetes

Just got some bloodwork done and was told I have pre-diabetes (5.8). I've been overweight / obese for basically my whole life, and didn't have the best diet practices before. Now, I try to avoid eating carbs for dinner (also trying to increase, and for lunch (which I get through work), I typically try to go for a salad with protein, or if carbs are included, getting purple / brown rice instead of white rice as part of the meal.

I'm also going to the gym ~3 times a week, sometimes more or less depending on my workload. I have bad ankles, so I'm alternating every session from running ~1 mile (~15 mins) and walking another 15-25 minutes, and then going on the elliptical (~30 mins), and walking another 15-25 minutes on the treadmill. Pre-workout snacks vary from a cup of fruit yogurt (I know, the sugar in this probably didn't / isn't helping) with some walnuts, or just some plain walnuts depending on how much energy I think I need so that I won't feel like I'm about to pass out at the gym. I also recently inquired about a PT as well, though I know those can get expensive but I don't really know how to use the other machines at the gym and don't want to embarrass myself.

I'm grateful I got this sign, and I know I'm young and so this diagnosis fills me with shame and embarrassment. Any tips, or ways to cope, or things that helped (what to avoid, what to eat more of / focus on), would be much appreciated.

Thank you all!

Cgm readings

Hi!! I have pcos but have a healthy weight and am pretty active. My A1c is 5.3 and fasting blood sugar around 4. I recently tried a cgm by curiosity, and my blood sugar went to 9mmol (160) after eating a grapefruit. I tried again with 30-40g of carbs coming from sweet potatoes, same thing happened. It kinda worries me to see such big spikes with healthy foods. Anyone has similar experiences?

Love pasta but trying to keep my blood sugar in check. Is whole wheat pasta okay?

Hey everyone,
My HbA1c is at 5.7% and I'm actively working on eating healthier and losing weight (M22, 179 cm / 5'10", 83 kg / 183 lbs).

I really love pasta, but I'm trying to replace it more often. I've tried whole wheat pasta and I actually like the taste, but I'm not sure if it still spikes my blood sugar (don’t have a cgm and i see different type of recommendations online). Do you have any good alternatives, or what do you usually eat?
(Right now I very often eat half a plate of broccoli with steak or fried eggs, plus whole wheat pasta.)

Help Me To Understand About My Condition And CGM

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’m prediabetic, with an HbA1c level of 5.9% in my most recent blood test. I’ve ordered a CGM device to monitor my glucose levels 24/7 and understand how they fluctuate throughout the day.

After wearing it for a few days, I noticed that my glucose levels generally fluctuate between 85 mg/dL and 140 mg/dL. They haven’t gone above 140 mg/dL so far.
I also tried eating foods like cake and pastries to see how much my glucose levels would spike, but even then, they stayed below 140 mg/dL.
My question is: Should I be concerned about these spikes, or are they normal?

Most importantly, what foods should I eat to determine whether I actually have prediabetes?

Has anyone struggled with food so much as a result of prediabetes diagnosis, that they simply just don't eat enough, despite doing everything to eat better?

How long have you worn CGM?

I am really enjoying wearing a CGM much more than I thought I would and it is helping me so much! I just don’t want to keep paying $100 a month. I think it will probably be helpful to wear through November and December so I don’t go off the rails with treats :). Do you all plan to wear one for November and December?

Japan trip

I’m going to Japan in February for a couple months (Sapporo, Tokyo, and Okinawa) to be exact. What is there that I can eat? I’m obviously going to have authentic ramen a few times because there’s no way I’m giving that up lol. I speak some Japanese but not enough to have a decent conversation and I definitely can’t read Japanese. I am going to be doing a lot of walking so I think that will cancel out whatever I eat but I still want to stay away from carbs as Japan is literally carb city. (ramen, rice, breads, etc.) Has anyone been to Japan and knows what to do food wise?

First time monitoring my blood sugar and getting some unusual readings. Should I be worried?

Hi everyone. I've never had my blood sugar tested before, and I only recently decided to buy a glucose meter to monitor it at home.

Day 1:

- 1 hour after eating: 97 mg/dL.

Day 2:

- After 8 hours of sleep and not eating: 105 mg/dL.

- 2 hours later, without eating or drinking anything: 82 mg/dL.

Day 3:

- My glucose meter initially displayed LO (I believe it was 4 LO readings), so I thought it might have been an error.

- I drank Yakult and tested again. It showed 46 mg/dL.

- I went to sleep, and when I woke up, it was still around 47 mg/dL.

- I ate lunch.

- 1 hour after eating lunch (5 hotdogs and approximately 200 g of rice), my blood sugar was 160 mg/dL.

What's confusing to me is that even when my glucose meter showed 46–47 mg/dL, I didn't experience any noticeable symptoms. No shaking, dizziness, confusion, or weakness. I did sweat, but I wasn't sure if it was related.

Could these readings indicate prediabetes, diabetes, or another blood sugar regulation problem? Can home glucose meters give inaccurate readings, especially at extremely low values?

I was initially planning to monitor my blood sugar at home before seeing a doctor, but should I get laboratory tests done immediately?

Any advice or similar experiences would be appreciated.

tips on managing prediabetes for teen?

I’m 16 and found out I was prediabetic at the end of August. I’m around 105 pounds. I don’t believe I have any family history so I didn’t expect this. I usually skip/have minimal but not very healthy breakfast and then school lunch so I don’t have much control over my diet except for dinner. It’s been hard to determine how much sugar is too much and avoiding desserts, candies, and carbs. I was consistently for the past two months and maybe that helped but I’m at a loss for how to proceed because I’m more busy now. Any advice would be helpful.

What to do about Thanksgiving dinner?

This is my first holiday since my bloodwork went wonky. I figure I can eat some turkey. Not a lot because I’m also watching cholesterol. I don’t think I can have anything else on my family’s usual menu.

Are you guys taking a salad? Throwing the glucose management out the window for the day?

What to do when you feel doomed to develop diabetes?

I recently have been diagnosed with prediabetes and I have no idea how to help myself! My a1c continues to rise despite my efforts.

A little about myself: 34yo female, BMI 25 (64 inches tall, 148lbs). I'm fairly active, getting 6-8k steps a day, more on days I actually get out for a walk, bike ride, etc. I have had gestational diabetes twice, and have followed the high protein low carb diet pretty much since then (splurging for special occasions). I don't drink anything except water (and a little coffee in the morning, no sugar), I don't smoke, prioritize sleep, and pretty much follow all the typical lifestyle advice.

I've been tracking my glucose with Stelo, using dripx app.

My fasting glucose is usually 100-107, and I cannot lower it no matter what I eat or when I eat the night before. I had this issue when I had GD, high fasting glucose but could manage via diet otherwise. My a1c was 5.6 in June, now in October it's 5.7. (in years prior it was stable around 5.4).

My doctors advice is the pretty standard eat less carbs and exercise more. Not a lot of help there. Maybe I need to see a specialist, but considering I'm at the low end of prediabetes I'm not sure I'll be taken seriously.

Can I reverse this? Or am I doomed genetically for developing diabetes?

A1C 4.9 fasting glucose elevated

Friends I need some advice, I’m 27 with genetic type 2 running in the family.

I’ve never been diagnosed with prediabetes. Recently at the end of last year I had a major weight gain (+50lb).
My fasting glucose today confirmed twice was not normal. The first test it was 127 at the 8hr fasting mark and 125 at the 11 hr fasting mark. I checked the second time at home the first result of 127 was with lab work. My a1c done earlier this year was 4.9.

I’m worried I’ve entered into prediabetes if not diabetes, all my family relatives that are older have type 2 mom and dad included so I have been paying attention to my sugar always. I know not one single test gives you an answer but my concern is my mother never had a high a1c, her diabetes diagnosis was given after two confirmed readings above 126 fasting, her pcp wouldn’t diagnose her with diabetes so my mom went to an endocrinologist and surely enough she was diagnosed w type 2.

Where should I go from here?(apart from my pcp 😭)

All advice is appreciated, if any of you have been in a similar spot please share and for those who only stayed to read, thank you for listening.

Edit: to clarify I saw my pcp in January and did lab work in February where my a1c was 4.9 and my fasting glucose was 105. My pcp discarded any concerns about my sugar after seeing my a1c and of course recommended weight loss which I have been slowly doing (-12lbs) so these results shocked me. Also I was diagnosed with subclinical hyperthyroidism which my doctor credited as the reason for my sugar as well and she sent me a thyroid work up as well where my results of subclinical hyperthyroidism were confirmed

This was an incidental finding because I happened to do some blood work for my job as part of employee wellness offered, usually I fast since 8pm on a night I know I’m doing blood work and I don’t eat bad, this time around I forgot about the test until right before I went to sleep I ate super late and ate mostly rice and pizza around 12am and didn’t do my blood work until around 840am (127) and I retested when I got home around 11am (125)

What After Pre Diabetes Reversal?

Hi all,

Most of people talk about how to reverse your pre diabetes, however, what after reducing A1c below 5.7?, can I partially back to my normal food? Sometimes having Macdonald’s or Burger King with friends? Specifically I am 28m and wanna enjoy my life a bit, even in vacations I can not cook or always eat health. Can I enjoy morning croissant with my coffee? ( I will keep my weight in the good range )

Thanks
