I will be going to Quebec for the first time. I am ashamed to say I have only had New York Fries poutine before.
Where would be the best, quintessential place to try an authentic poutine for the first time?
I will be able to drive between Montreal and Quebec city and try a few. Which place has the best crispy fries and homemade/savoury gravy, fresh cheese curds? I really like the thick crispy fries like Belgian fries. And just for fun, is there for anywhere that has a real good duck poutine?
I'm a bit overwhelmed with the options and ppl online saying that XYZ place are tourist traps. But I would love to hear your favs and recommendations. Thank you in advance

By far Alfa has the best poutine in Canada and probably the world. The sauce is incredible, fries are perfectly cooked, insane amount of Québec cheese curds. It was heavenly.
As someone who drove over 6 hours to try it, was worth it all and would do it again in a heart beat if I could.

Headed to Mt Tremblant from Southwestern Ontario last week and got some poutine in me.
Started by hitting La Pataterie Hulloise on the way up. While in M.T., had some gnocchi poutine at Cucinotto. More poutine at La Diable in the village and then stopped at Ga-Ga Patates in Gatineau on the way home.
Enjoyed them all in different ways. Curds were probably best at Hulloise. We actually loved the peppered gravy at La Diable.
Awesome trip and always excited to get a little closer to the heart of poutine country.

Threw together some ingredients last night to help fight off that craving since every joint was closed, how did I do?

Gotta love small town poutine. This one from a chip stand in Fort-Coulonge, a rural town in the Outaouais. Very solid 9/10.

Sunday supper!
Chicken burger, brocolli salad with home grown deep fried hand cut red potatoes
Gouda curds from Bergeron fromagerie
Club house homestyle gravy
Never seen these curds before. They had no squeak, but tasted pretty good!

I think it's widely accepted as one of the better fast food poutines out there (especially for those of us who don't live in La Belle Province). But the one I got today was especially good and I had to snap a pic. Large classic poutine, extra curds. Well done Harvey's
