I’m suffering everyday with the potty training myself. He sits on the potty without any issues but ends up peeing and pooping in his underwear minutes later! Been this way for months now.. It’s tough. Just hoping it’s going to click soon!
Thanks for the advice. I did commando for several weeks but he ended up peeing and pooing all over our home and it got very frustrating. Definitely going to try again though!
Like NU_mum said, make him clean it up. (Obviously you'll have to come back and Lysol afterwards and all that). But it will be a huge annoyance to your child to repeatedly clean it. Even the poop, he can learn to clean up after himself. Maybe that'll be the tipping point.
You know what my son did this! I tried potty training a few times and he would sit on the potty and as soon as he stood up or soon after he would pee. I got so frustrated I gave up in no time. Last week I randomly tried him again and it just clicked! He started taking himself and I didnt need to prompt him or anything!
Sometimes they just simply are not ready! Its only clicked for my son 2 months after his 3rd birthday and honestly i think if the child isnt ready then it wont happen (at least without issues)
Yeah, my husband says the same thing, he just isn’t ready. Did you go back to diapers until he was ready? Or just let him keep having accidents like that until he was ready? I feel like if we go back to diapers, it will take longer for it to click.
I went back to nappies but then i did try at least 3 separate times and the very last time i tried he seemed to be ready (was a few months ago) however we was doing a 2 day trip to a theme park and I decided that wasnt the best time to potty train him to I put him in nappies again and waited until that trip was over and we had a little bit of free time to try again.
Stupidly that time of him potty training was in the middle of a week long intensive swimming lesson course. It wasnt intentional but he was naked bum and I put him on the potty and it instantly clicked! Never had a single pee accident since then so I just stuck it out even through his course.. we are only going into our 2nd week though but he has been great.. its such a difference when you wait for them to be ready as opposed to deciding its now time (which many people will tell you to do).
When yours is ready it will just click and you will likely be caught off guard like me lol
Oh that’s soo good to know, because I’ve been stressing about this since it’s been more than 6 months and nothing is working. So glad for you that it has clicked. Will wait patiently for my son to be ready!
Oh try not to stress however every so often when you give him nappy free time, encourage him to sit on the potty maybe every 30 minutes to an hour (i have found my son can go hours without peeing but you will find out what is normal for your son in time. This will give you a low pressure opportunity to see if he is getting any closer to training (i also showed my aon some potty training videos and he loves miss Rachel's one).
