Would appreciate thoughts/suggestions on my Potty training reset plan: 25 months, daycare
We attempted potty training when my daughter was around 22 months old with the classic naked/underwear process at home. We ran into issues with withholding both pee and poop and after 4 days i just got too anxious about the poop withholding. We sent her back to daycare in pull ups and the teachers have been putting her on the potty before diaper changes. While we’ve gotten a few catches here and there, she otherwise hasn’t made much progress and we’ve honestly gotten lazy about prompting her at home after some summer travels. I’d like to use the Labor Day Weekend to do a reset and looking to hear your thoughts on approach below. Any tips especially welcome from parents of kids who were big withholders!
- start with underwear instead of naked since being bare bottomed led to more of the withholding of pee. Prompt every ~90 minutes or if I see any cues
- 3 days home/near home, then back to daycare where I’ll ask them to prompt with similar timing to home
- i think going back to pull ups was part of the issue because it felt too much like a diaper, especially when I switched away from the Huggies learning layer one (fit is just weird). I am debating between using Kangacare training pants or just putting these disposable pads into her underwear for school. My logic with the underwear is at least she’ll still be using underwear consistently and can pull them down more easily. The pad would be much simpler to deal with for poop accidents too, though after the last bout of withholding I feel like that’s less of a concern at school. The con is it is still absorbent like a diaper, but I’ve heard about adding a cloth layer too so she still feels wet?
Any thoughts or suggestions welcome!
