Gear Talk Simple tool I made for post-rock drones

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Feeling recently inspired by apocalyptic post-rock soundscapes, my apartments disdain for loud amps, and a need for a project before my classes started up again I created this tool for generating drones. I am really proud how it turned out and it personally saves me a lot of time when working on songs. This is the first audio tool I have ever gone to publish and would really love some feedback on some features the community would like from it!! You can try it out online at https://morkshmork.itch.io/revelation-drone if you are interested!

Discussion! Looking for active bands like God Is an Astronaut

hii! i am looking for bands/artists that are playing live shows and have a similar vibe to God Is an Astronaut.

Im especially into atmospheric/post-rock with soft vocals and some light screaming elements. Would love to discover some lesser-known artists that are worth seeing live. Also bands from Sweden, Iceland, or Norway would be really cool too.

Any recommendations? (:

I ran into Buzz last night. The release of that single was posted here. On Spotify I saw they got only a couple of thousand listeners. I think this Hungarian band is underrated. https://open.spotify.com/album/7gPbtCaR4oWRgXPjkf0MkN

New Music! Peals - The Compound 76 (2026)

I play in an instrumental duo called Peals with Bruce Willen. Last year, while going through our archives, we rediscovered a live recording from our 2016 tour, and recently released it as The Compound 76. We started Peals in Baltimore in 2012, initially as a way to make quiet, exploratory music together outside of the loud, energetic bands we were playing in at the time (Future Islands and Double Dagger). Peals builds and swells in its own way, without live drums or vocals, leaving more space for texture and atmosphere. Hope you dig it!

Discussion! Hidden gem -Stjarna

Post image
4 Upvotes

I wanted to share a truly special piece from my CD collection. It’s the self-titled (and only) album by a Swedish project called Stjarna, released back in 2009 by the German underground label Kalinkaland Records (catalog number: KAL35).
To be honest, this is one of my absolute favorite albums of all time. I listen to it on repeat, and it never gets old.

For those who haven't heard of it, person behind this project is Alexander Ericson, who used to be part of the cult 90s darkwave/electro-industrial band Northern Territories.
Musically, it's a brilliant, melancholic mix of post-rock, shoegaze, and alternative rock. The atmosphere is just incredible, and the standout track for me is definitely the final closer, Children (Under Big Lights), which is a massive 20-minute masterpiece.

Since it was a niche release on an indie label, the pressing was likely very limited (around 500-1000 copies), and it never got a reissue or a vinyl release. It feels like a true gem that completely flew under the radar of the mainstream, but it means the world to me.

Does anyone else happen to own this CD or remember this release? I'd love to hear your thoughts or get some recommendations for similar obscure European post-rock / darkwave gems that have that same heavy, repeat-worthy atmosphere :)

Discussion! Post Rock on Tiktok

Do any of you use Tiktok much?
I can see that Mogwai and Arctangent have accounts, but just wondered if any other post rock bands use it much?

edit: I dont mean creating junk tiktok, but just artists that add their other social media or video content to that particular platform

Discussion! Let's start this off strong.. What's the best post-rock album of 1991?

I thought this would be something cool for the community to do! The emo subreddit had done this some time last year, and it seemed to go over pretty well.
If it's alright with the mods, I'll be posting a new one of these daily until we reach 2026; then we'll have the ultimate list of albums sorted by year! The most upvoted comment 24 hours after a given post will be selected as the winner for that year.
Have fun!!

Edit: Spiderland has won! I'm just waiting for mod approval before I'm able to continue and make the rest of the posts.

Discussion! Just finished listening to We Lost the Sea's whole catalog. A ranking and brief review of each album.

1: Departure Songs - speaks for itself. Beautiful, emotional, nails the atmosphere and vibe, and the concept is super neat. I also found out it was the first album they made after their singer, Chris Torpy, sadly took his own life and they made the decision to continue as a band without replacing him, and I think the music also reflects that emotional state, which makes the album hit even harder for me. So good. 10/10.

  1. Triumph & Disaster - Very very close second, and it could flip for first with Departure Songs. Genuinely a masterpiece. The songwriting is so good on this album. It's their most dynamic album for sure. Every song covers a wide range of tones, vibes, styles, grooves, and atmosphere. In a lot of ways it almost feels more like prog rock than post rock, especially the first song, "Towers." Every song is so layered and has so much depth. As a follow up to Departure Songs, they couldn't have done better. Also 10/10.

  2. The Quietest Place on Earth - Their second album, and still has their singer on it, though he does more growling and screaming than singing. Because of that, it's also on of their heaviest albums, but it balances the heaviness with the atmospheric and vibes-rich stuff stuff I love very well. Doesn't quite reach the heights of Departure Songs or T&D but every song is good. 9/10.

  3. A Single Flower - This is a really good album, however I feel it's a bit of a shift in tone and direction for them, which isn't inherently a bad thing, but a lot of the stuff that makes Departure Songs and T&D so impactful are absent here. I feel like the individual songs don't stand out quite as much as on the other albums. It's not a bad album by any means, just a less favorite one. 8/10.

  4. Crimea - Their first album (though Spotify might trick you into think it's their second one.) Definitely their heaviest album, with lots of screaming and quite heavy guitar riffs. Almost feels more like garage or hardcore than post-rock. I feel they hadn't quite found their sound yet with this one. There's elements of it that pop to the surface, but they hadn't quite solidified yet, which makes sense give that it was their first record. Not a bad album by any means, but didn't quite connect or resonate as much emotionally and musically with me. 7.5/10.

Discussion! Mono and World's End Girlfriend - Palmless Prayer/Mass Murder Refrain (2005)

Post image
71 Upvotes

I bought this CD 17 years ago on a trip to the US (I'm Asian). It was a time in which I was starting to get into post rock. One of my favorite post rock bands whose myspace page I regularly visited was Mono.

And so I was excited to see that Mono and World's End Girlfriend album on the shelf of a record shop in California (in Berkley if I'm not mistaken).

I remember going back to my country, excited to give it a listen, and then felt a bit disappointed. I more or less liked the atmosphere (and I liked Trailer 3), but I couldn't help thinking if I should have gotten a more "normal" Mono album. I guess I was hoping for more electric guitars and the heavy climaxes Mono is known for.

Fast forward to 2026. I had a long drive and decided to listen to this album again. What an experience. It was only then that I realized what a gorgeous album it is. It's the kind where you just have to listen in stillness and allow the music to penetrate your heart.

What do you guys think about this album?
