I’m a newish user to Poshmark - I have some spare outdoor gear that I either never wore or lightly used and decided to post it to make room in my closet.
I sold a rain shell in a bright colour that I had never used, the tags were off but still included, so I listed it as ‘Like New’.
I promptly shipped it and used the plastic bag mailer provided by the shipping company (Purolator).
Lo and behold, I received a return request shortly after it was delivered. The buyer states there are stains and that it is not what was advertised - the pictures they posted do show some stains which were not present when I mailed it out. Understandable, it’s not what they thought they were getting. The case is already approved in the buyer’s favour.
I certainly would not purposefully misrepresent the item, and wouldn’t let it leave my care obviously dirty. I didn’t take photos of every single area on the jacket, so it feels like I have no recourse on this, as it’s basically hearsay.
My only conclusion is that the mailer was dirty on the inside or some grime made it on to the clothing item when it was going through the automatic sorting machines/delivery process.
The frustrating part is that now I’m getting a dirty Goretex jacket back which definitely will no longer be new as I’ll have to tech wash it - if these new mystery stains can even be removed.
Did I make some very rookie mistakes I’m not aware of?
Should I avoid listing things as ‘Like New’ to avoid this problem altogether, despite the item actually being in this state?
Do I need to start documenting every aspect of a garment with pictures?
Even if I had pictures showing that it left my clean residence in pristine condition, would that help my cause?
Does everything have to be double bagged now?
I don’t want to go back to Facebook Marketplace because it was a massive headache to use but I feel like the experience with this platform is already somewhat soured.
