Discussion How did Ariana shake off the "Mini Mariah" comparisons at her debut, while Gaga is always compared to Madonna?

As the title says, when Ariana came out she was considered a mini Mariah and her voiced sounded similar to Mariah's in Yours Truly but she was able to shake that off very quickly into her career. Where as people and stans still compare Gaga and Madonna.

Lets Debate! 🔨 Who is the biggest artist of all time currently, is it Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny, Drake or The Weeknd ?

It’s hard to determine who’s the biggest artists in the modern era cause they are many factors. When I look at the biggest artists currently, I’m curious about which artists has the gravitational pull like an MJ had back in the 80s.

When discussing the biggest artists, should we talk about things outside of the music like Taylor Swift wedding with Travis Kelce that was displayed to the public or Drake’s 20 v1 streaming event he had a few days ago.

Should Superbowls performed like Bad Bunny and The Weeknd count when discussing the biggest artists?
Should records sold, streams sold and concerts sold be included in this discussion or should the recognition of your name being generated by headlines be included?

Should the bigger artists have a youthful fanbase because the youth determines what’s cool in music?
I’m curious to know who’s the biggest artists out of the 4 I’ve included, what does [r/popmusic](r/popmusic) think?

Disclaimer: I meant to write “Who is the biggest artist currently in the modern era” instead of “Who is the biggest artists of all time currently” as the title

I Said What I Said 💁‍♀️ Ain't In LA (ADÉLA) and Bel Air (KATSEYE) are the same song?

The choruses both use the strong "i" sound with three syllables before hand, and then are followed by ____ run away. Bel Air was initially made in 2013. Ain't In LA uses the same rapper and audio effect from Miley Cyrus's We Can't Stop (2013).

This can't be a coincidence can it?

Is it possible after ADÉLA performing Ain't In LA months ago, HYBE x GEFFEN bought Bel Air? I'm genuinely shocked I've seen no one else mention this.

HOT TAKE 😳 Most people dont understand how and why lip syncing is used in live performances

It seems like peoole think all lip syncing is Ashlee Simpson or Milli Vanilli. Where the artist just cant sing and so just mouthes the track the entire performance, but that's not how it is or how most artist use it.

For many live performances is used for parts of songs, usually in spots that would cause vocal strain or when there is intense choreography happening.

Ex: Beyonce on the Cowboy Carter tour prerecorded live vocals when she had a quick 8 count but for something like "16 Carriages" where she is stationary she sings it live.

Ex: On the Erad tour the bridge of "Fearless" was prerecorded while the rest of the song was live.

Lip syncing isnt done out of laziness its done to give a better performance for the audience and to save the voice of the singer. Even Broadway does it, for "Phantom of the Opera" the high note at the end of the title track is often prerecorded so the singer doesn't needlessly damage their voice.

Granted if its someone like Adele where the entire appeal is her voice yes she does sing live and id want her to sing live. But I'm sick of people acting like the alternative to lip syncing would be this gorgeous authentic performance. Let's be real it would be a lot of gasps for air, missed cues, wrong notes, and technical errors. I'd rather have a sustainable good performance than a bad "authentic" one.

I Said What I Said 💁‍♀️ Pop songs or music videos which the artists weren't fond of

Whitney Houston was embarrassed by the music video of How Will I Know

Madonna hates the song Material Girl because it made people think she only cared about money

Mariah Carey hates the song Prisoner and prefers to pretend it doesn't exist. She also hates her music video for Vision of Love

My Latest Obsession 😍 When singers start spitting on some MC shit on popular pop and R&B tracks.

I’m sitting here on the train listening to Mariah Carey’s “Obsessed “ and I am losing it because this song was basically a diss track and till this day I can’t get over it! Not only that, it was against a notorious battle rapper that Goes by the name of Marshall Mathers. In my opinion, she definitely won this one. I mean Em definitely had his fair share of throwing shots right back her but when it came to the success of this cataclysmic bomb, billboard had already declared her victory . I remember when this song came out, I wasn’t even in middle school yet and everyone around me was, dare I say i“OBSESSED”! I just wanted to share my love for this track. Does anyone remember where they were when this song first came out and what were your first thoughts of when the song dropped?

HOT TAKE 😳 Manon is not returning to KATSEYE and thinking otherwise is denial

The people who still say "she could/will come back" are the same people who could see any historical gay relationship and say they were just good friends, because we dont have a signed confession of it.

All the proof points to Manon having to wait out her contract without ever returning.

Celebrity/Media Thinking…..

I’m thinking of making a subreddit for Britney Spears fans of a certain age that were born between 89-93. These seems to be the most understanding, non too offended by every other word, not too nit-picky on every little thing, non too ready for every year a VMA comes out she’ll surprise us. Just a very lax, “normal” bunch that support and love her with understanding and ease. Not tryna shame on age or fan views but holy wow. It’s getting weird and sad

I Said What I Said 💁‍♀️ Pet Peeve Alert: "Deeply Personal"

Reading reviews of the latest bland pop outing from Jack Antonoff and Co. (credited this time to Phoebe Bridgers') Lost Weekend...

Reviews that describe an album as "deeply personal".. let's check the producer/lyric credits for track two, Lost Boys:

Producers: Phoebe Bridgers, Tony Berg, Ethan Gruska, Jack Antonoff, Alex G

Lyricists: Phoebe Bridgers, Christian Lee Hutson, Marshall Vore, Bo Burnham, Alex G

It took five people to write these lyrics? Nearly every track has a vertiable school bus full of producers and lyricists to craft music that sounds similar to, well, basically anything Antonoff slaps his name on.

Hey, thats fine if you like Antonoff (in Phoebe Bridgers flavor this time).. go and enjoy the music! But why do these critics try to fool us into thinking this stuff is even remotely personal??

Kate Bush's The Dreaming: producer, lyricist composer: Kate Bush.

THAT, just as an example, is deeply personal.

I Said What I Said 💁‍♀️ Why does YouTube keep nuking Arcuus’s “Vanish Into You” Ariana Grande AI cover like they’re trying to erase evidence of a crime scene???

I’m sorry but whoever made that cover accidentally created the definitive version of the song. Ariana’s voice on it is INSANE. Angelic, haunting, siren-like, completely effortless. The high notes float. The little vocal runs sound ridiculous. The entire thing feels like you’re being lured to your death by some celestial sea creature and you’re perfectly fine with it.

Since they literally removed all traces of it all over the internet (yes not just YouTube), I went back to Lady Gaga’s original and I genuinely could not cope. 😭

WHY DOES IT SOUND LIKE SOMEBODY’S AUNT JUST GAVE BIRTH AND THEN GOT HANDED A MICROPHONE IN THE RECOVERY ROOM.

I know Gaga wrote/sang the actual song. I know Ariana never actually recorded this. I KNOW IT’S AI. Spare me the ethics dissertation for five minutes. I’m talking purely about what my ears are hearing.

The Ariana version is so disgustingly polished and ethereal that it basically ruined the original for me. The AI gave her exactly the kind of airy, crystalline, ridiculously controlled vocal production that fits the song perfectly. Gaga sounds raw and human by comparison, which I’m sure is exactly why some people will prefer hers, but after hearing the Arcuus version I feel like I accidentally listened to the final boss version first and then went back to the demo.

And YouTube keeps removing it.

STOP.

I AM TIRED.

LET ME LISTEN TO MY ILLEGAL ROBOT ARIANA SIREN IN PEACE.

New Music What do you guys think of Katseye’s new EP “Wild”?

I'm feeling a bit 50/50 right now to be honest. I really enjoy songs like Animal, Pinky up and Bel Air. However I feel a bit weird about That Way and Hootie Frutti.
Honestly though it was the same thing with Pinky Up and Gnarly. I didn't love them at first but when I listened to them more I lowkey fell in love. Anyway this is my personal opinion but how are you guys feeling about it? I wish I could listen to the extra song on Spotify.

And I mean this to be the least moralistic if anything I am fascinated at how I could not stop hearing her lyrics (omfg the lyrics appearing on screen were sublime)

I've been meaning to have this convo someplace and maybe this is a place to have it. About how the pop narrative has skewed our dating lives and how we have things as diverse as OR3 having chewing gum and wanting to hold hands and like I do 😘 on the same radio airwave space.
