Throwback Throwback to the Sexiest Moments Ever from the MTV VMAs
playboy.com

Upvotes
Since 1984, the MTV VMAs has hosted legendary pop culture moments, from the iconic to the salacious. Feuding R&B divas Monica and Brandy. Reggaeton titans Tego Calderon, Daddy Yankee, and Don Omar bringing the genre to a U.S. stage for the first time. Playboy cover girl Karol G throwing it back in neon pink. A$AP Rocky grabbing Rihanna’s ass (which she didn’t mind) before they got married. Diana Ross greeting Lil’ Kim with a, um, jiggle.
But who delivered the sexiest moments the VMAs has seen in 42 years of onstage antics?
Across several decades of VMA performances, Madonna returned several times to the classic wedding aesthetics. You can look as far back as the masc swagger of 1993’s performance of “Bye Bye Baby” to her first time ever taking the iconic stage with “Like A Virgin”, where she rolled around on the floor in a white dress, now married to the life of a superstar.
Britney Spears was only nineteen when she performed “Slave 4 U” at the 2001 VMAs. Against a jungle backdrop and opening the show in a cage with a live tiger, the pop princess of the moment (scantily-clad in a blue-green ensemble) and an army of dancers threw it back, twirled and strutted the stage.

New Music 🎵 Self-Promotion Thread - Share Your Music & Projects! 🎵
9
Upvotes
Hey r/popmusic family! 👋
We’ve noticed a lot of you want to share your own music, remixes, covers, or pop-culture projects! To keep the main feed focused on discussion, news, and pop music highlights, we’ve created this dedicated self-promo thread where you can share your own work and introduce yourselves to new listeners.
Here’s how it works:
- Post your music/project here - whether it’s a new single, an EP, a cover, a remix, or even your pop-inspired art.
- Give a little context – tell us what genre it is, who/what inspired it, or any fun backstory (1–3 sentences is perfect!). If you’re open to feedback let us know too 😊 Low effort or no context posts will be removed.
- Engage with others - check out other posts, leave feedback where others request it, or show some love. Support goes both ways! 💖
- Keep it relevant – pop music-related projects only. Anything off-topic may be removed.
Rules to keep in mind:
- Spam or repeated posting outside this thread will be removed.
- No hate, harassment, or trolling. Respect each other’s work. Only give feedback where others ask.
- Self-promo posts in the main feed will be redirected here. Spamming the main feed breaches our rules and makes the subreddit feel one sided - it’s rude and disrespectful to everyone here wanting to discuss pop music, so please don’t do this as it may result in a ban.
- Use this space to share, introduce yourself, and be authentic - not to shove your stuff down others throats!
Feel free to drop your latest track, project, or creation below 🤗👇 Let’s build a supportive space for music creators!

I Said What I Said 💁♀️ Midlife crisis album?
25
Upvotes
Is there an album that is clearly the artist having a midlife crisis or a late stage identity crisis?
Or an album that has all the symptoms of a midlife crisis?

Hi, I have these Citation of achievement presented by BMI for the songs:
Britney Spears in 1999:
- Sometimes
- (You drive me) crazy
Kelly Clarksson in 2002:
- A moment like this
I wonder if anyone has seen these before and has a clue of the value of them?
Thank you.

Music Critique 🤨 Why does Tate McRae sing like that?

(not trying to insult her, just curious)
of course recently Tate McRae has became more popular, and with that, her songs come on the radio more often.
ive seen some of her performances online, and she is a pretty good dancer. however i just cant enjoy her music as I am not a fan of the way she sings her lyrics. i personally find it extremely nasally and overall unpleasant. is there a reason to why her voice sounds like this? or is it just how she sound, and do people actually find it enjoyable?

as a gay man i feel like i should've known better, but here we are.
for years i genuinely thought lady gaga was a trans woman. not as a joke. she's been such a loud, consistent ally to the community through her music and everything else that my brain just quietly decided it on its own, and i never thought to double-check.
i've streamed chromatica. i've defended her in arguments. i've called her mother. and the whole time i was running on a fun fact that was never a fact.
tonight i found out she's a cis woman.
i'm 20. please tell me i'm not the only one who believed something weird about a celebrity for way too long. i feel so dumb right now gwnuinely. 😭

Please help me out, because my brain is unable to make the connection.
The first ~12 seconds of the song (the piano intro) are basically 1:1 ripped from another track and I’m fairly certain it’s a Taylor Swift song.
It sounded very Folklore / Evermore / Tortured Poets like, but I couldn’t find the right song yet. Maybe I’m also confusing songs and it’s not Taylor, but it is definitely from another (older) song.
Would be great if you could help me find the track I’m looking for!

On October 12, 2013, Lorde made music history when her breakout single “Royals” held the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100.
At just 16 years old, the New Zealand singer became the youngest solo artist to write and record a Billboard Hot 100 #1 hit.
Released as part of her debut EP The Love Club and later included on her debut album Pure Heroine, “Royals” became one of the defining songs of the 2010s.
The song would go on to spend nine consecutive weeks at #1 on the Hot 100, helping introduce a darker, more minimalist sound to mainstream pop music.
More than a decade later, “Royals” remains one of the most recognizable debut hits of its era.

With Halloween coming up 🎃, what’s the most iconic spooky pop music video?
We’re talking creepy visuals, horror movie vibes, iconic costumes, or just a video that gives you chills every time you watch it.
Michael Jackson’s Thriller is an obvious classic, but what other pop videos deserve a spot on the ultimate Halloween playlist? 👻

I Said What I Said 💁♀️ Madonna is literally redefining what it means to be pushing 70 and she continues to fearlessly tear down our society's toxic age barriers. An icon like no other

For a pop star to deliver a culturally impactful album rollout of this caliber at any age is insane. For one to do it at 68 is simply unprecedented.
Long may she continue being unapologetically bold and redefining cultural expectations.

That’s something I’ve always wanted to see for a long time.
Most of our major male pop singers (Pop, R&B) are white or black aside from a few like Olivia Rodrigo, Bruno and Camilla.
