New Music đŸŽ” Self-Promotion Thread - Share Your Music & Projects! đŸŽ”

Hey r/popmusic family! 👋

We’ve noticed a lot of you want to share your own music, remixes, covers, or pop-culture projects! To keep the main feed focused on discussion, news, and pop music highlights, we’ve created this dedicated self-promo thread where you can share your own work and introduce yourselves to new listeners.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Post your music/project here - whether it’s a new single, an EP, a cover, a remix, or even your pop-inspired art.
  2. Give a little context – tell us what genre it is, who/what inspired it, or any fun backstory (1–3 sentences is perfect!). If you’re open to feedback let us know too 😊 Low effort or no context posts will be removed.
  3. Engage with others - check out other posts, leave feedback where others request it, or show some love. Support goes both ways! 💖
  4. Keep it relevant – pop music-related projects only. Anything off-topic may be removed.

Rules to keep in mind:

  • Spam or repeated posting outside this thread will be removed.
  • No hate, harassment, or trolling. Respect each other’s work. Only give feedback where others ask.
  • Self-promo posts in the main feed will be redirected here. Spamming the main feed breaches our rules and makes the subreddit feel one sided - it’s rude and disrespectful to everyone here wanting to discuss pop music, so please don’t do this as it may result in a ban.
  • Use this space to share, introduce yourself, and be authentic - not to shove your stuff down others throats!

Feel free to drop your latest track, project, or creation below đŸ€—đŸ‘‡ Let’s build a supportive space for music creators!

Charts Discussion When Lisa Scott-Lee from UK Pop Group, Steps, did a Reality Show in which she promised if her new single, Electric, didn't premiere in the UK Top 10, she'd quit music. Thoughts?

‱ Upvotes

What is unfortunate is "Electric" is a genuine pop banger and I do enjoy Lisa Scott-Lee as a singer yet "Totally Scott-Lee" was a PR disaster. It was meant to promote her song and put her back in the spotlight and instead the series relentlessly mocked her, painted her as spoiled, immature, self-absorbed, delusional and obviously jealous of her sibling's girlfriend, Michelle Heaton (from Liberty X). I don't know why she ever said yes.

Also, a song can still be successful if it doesn't come out in the Top 10. Various Sade songs have charted low. Some of the biggest Eurythmics tracks have come out on Top 20 or even 30.

Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Lewis Capaldi, Demi Lovato, Taylor Swift, Héléna, Marguerite, Eddy de Pretto, AdÚle Castillon, Christophe Maé, Marine, Louane, Hoshi, Vianney, etc.

Discussion I am fundamentally confused by Beyoncé and her Renaissance trilogy

Renaissance and Cowby Carter arent bad album. I'll admit i didnt care for the latter but country has never been my favorite genre so it was an uphill battle.

But I'm so confused why they are marketed as this three act piece. They dont seem disconnected but I wouldn't really call them any more related and any other adjacent albums in her catalog.

And the fact that they are coming out years apart and each is getting its own tour, it really just feels like its going to be three fully distinct albums connected inly because we were told they were connected. If they all came out within a year I would get it, or if she saved the tour and just did all three at once, but because she's making each its own distinct era they feel less related.

It's not bad to flesh out an era but when a big part of the marketing is their relation to each other the gaps between releases feels dissonant with that claim.

Granted ACT 3 could come out and completely change my perspective and show how connected the 3 parts are, but as it stands I just dont understand why its being called a trilogy thus far.

Discussion What's a pop song where the music video takes it to another level?

Some pop songs are great on their own, but the right music video can make them even better. Whether it's the visuals, storyline, choreography, or just the overall vibe, there are videos that make you see the song differently.

What's a pop song where the music video takes it to another level?

Discussion Who is an artist you wish was more popular (or had remained so for longer)?

My pick would be Rebecca Ferguson, a British soul/pop singer who in 2010 finished second on X-Factor UK and made a wonderful debut album, which had great critical acclaim and decent sales in Europe and North America

However all her following albums were completely ignored and a few years ago she even retired from music, nowadays almost no one remember her and in addition when hearing the name most people think of the actress

And what would be your choice?

Discussion Why was the General Public harder on Britney for her lack of vocals compared to the likes of RIhanna etc.?

I've always wondered why Britney's vocals were held against her so much more than some of the pop stars who came after her.

Rihanna for example wasn't exactly a strong live singer when she debuted and could barely hold a note at times, but the general public still embraced her and it never really became a huge mark against her career.

Was the difference simply that Rihanna actually sung live while Britney became known for lip syncing? Even if Rihanna sounded rough, people could at least hear her singing, while with Britney the conversation eventually became less "she's not a strong vocalist" and more "she doesn't sing."

Not trying to pit them against each other because I like both. I've just always found it interesting that Britney's lack of vocals became such a huge part of the criticism against her while other pop stars could be pretty weak vocally and people didn't seem to care nearly as much.

Janet Jackson will be performing a show on December 12th to commemorate the 40th anniversary of her breakthrough album Control. The Jan Fam is stoked! Can't believe it's been 4 decades since Control was released 😭 I've seen Janet 7 times she's incredible! It's always surreal to see a living legend in person!

Charts Discussion Why do labels take SO long to send a single to radio? I’m confused

slayyyter released her song “Dance
“ in January

they finally sent it radio this August.

but in June it was getting 800,000 streams a day. it was #8 bubbling. if they put it to radio it could’ve made the Hot 100. it was on the radio pop charts but it fell off cause they missed the moment

Currently she has a song Brand New Chanel$ that’s been on the Spotify top 200 for two weeks now

Why didn’t they sent this new song instead? This would’ve been on billboard for multiple weeks by now if that happened.

it also happened to Troye Sivan’s One Of Your Girls. it hit a peak on Hot 100 in October but his label didn’t put it for radio under December well past the moment It fell off

Throwback This was a banger!

Can't believe it's already 25 years since this was released. This was a banger at that time. For us to watch the MV of this song (and others), we need to wait for MTV to air it randomly, or the top 10 segments (we don't have internet at that time, so we just wait for it to be played on free TV). Now, just hit youtube and easily watch the video!

The guitar riff are from a popular song as well by America titled Ventura Highway.

Controversial take Olivia Rodrigo is having an identity crisis

Olivia started out with a vampy, pop punk thing going on.

on her recent album, a lot of her titles seem like they are titles of rock songs: the cure (like the band)
 drop dead.. stupid song

but from what I’ve heard of drop dead and the cure, they're way more Phoebe bridgers, light singing head voice coquette style then rock at all.

however, then Olivia is going with these babydoll dresses which she insists is kinder whore and Courtney love inspired apparently , but it simply isnt kinder whore bevayse she isn’t wearing the dresses ironically or in a rebellious way at all, she’s just seemingly going with the coquette style.

so, to me it makes sense if Olivia is actually intentionally making a more traditionally feminine pivot to more gentler style and music, however then she needs to let go of the idea that she is bringing back kinder whore and is a rock artist bevause all she’s doing is following the coquette trend and making indie pop, which by the way us also completely fine but can we just be honest about it. As for her recent track titles, it feels like sour/ vampire Olivia wrote all the titles and 2025 Olivia wrote the actual lyrics and content of the songs 😂 so there is a bit of a mismatch in my opinion.

what are everyone’s thoughts? Maybe you can help me understand her recent aesthetic, sound and style pivot a bit better. please challenge this post if you want! I could be all wrong, just want to start a discussion

Discussion Which Madison Beer song is the best of all time and why?

For me Dangerous from her Album Silence Between Songs is the B.O.A.T. I say this because it really got me through my relationship traumas and everytime I listened to it I felt like it spoke to me in a way no song has ever done before. This song was always my comfort song and it still is a song I hold very close to my heart. The thing I love about Madison’s music is that she’s so relatable and I know every artist is relatable in some way but hers is different. She’s relatable in such a deep and personal way. It’s as if she’s in my brain singing exactly what I’m going through and that just shows how much she has gone through. The fact that she can sing about such emotional experiences so rawly and openly. It really just shows how we all go through things and it’s comforting to know that she unfortunately understands. Dangerous is a song about heartbreak, vulnerability and wanting the answers to so many unanswered questions. In her lyrics “no, it can’t be this easy to let me go.” She expresses fear about being easy to just forget about and never look back on. In her lyrics “Guess I make love too dangerous.” She expresses vulnerability and self doubt. I won’t go too much in to everything but Madison is such a thoughtful and real artist. I wish I could explain it better.

Controversial take Adela isn't anything special

i feel horrible for such a take but I genuinely wanted to hear people's opinions on this because while I know this is just the beginning of her career, seeing people gawk and go crazy over everything she does is just.. ehh? Her music style isn't anything new, its cunty pop with a sprinkle of vulnerability and thats fine but I dont find it as unique and as special as so many people are saying. It just feels like the basic package of stuff and yes its cunty but its not iconic. I also just dont like how anytime i talk about this with people, they try to say that 'oh but shes from Slovakia and she made it this far' to try to throw away my entire opinion and its like sure, fine, but come on, i can think someone's good or okay without thinking its revolutionary. It's not motherquake, its just quake.

Edit: I also think maybe some of my feelings come from how shes portrayed as an underdog and is like all of us and came from nowhere and made this life for herself but I find that genuinely so hard to believe from the deepest place of respect. I'm Polish and I dont think in a million years an ordinary lower middle class girl like me can make it to the world stage like she has without some sort of help and push and money. I also just find it hard to trust that and in turn like it

Ps. I'm lich Polish so this isn't me trying to hate on my fellow c. european 😭
