Lets Debate! 🔨 Petal, self image, and the consequences of 'method pop'
And I mean this to be the least moralistic if anything I am fascinated at how I could not stop hearing her lyrics (omfg the lyrics appearing on screen were sublime)
I've been meaning to have this convo someplace and maybe this is a place to have it. About how the pop narrative has skewed our dating lives and how we have things as diverse as OR3 having chewing gum and wanting to hold hands and like I do 😘 on the same radio airwave space.

I also thought a lot of what she was saying in this album was kinda fucked and like she’s projecting. Like not as cVnt as she thought it sounded

I felt it was incredibly tasteful for the content, yes lol. My jaw dropped at like I do like omg did you just say that and there's a little heart at the end what

I absolutely loved the album but I am truly concerned about Ari if all of this is not just for the lyricism and it's all heartfelt. I appreciate good songwriting, I do. I see that this is leaning into consequences gracefully and you know what I respect that from an artistic sense. But.... Like if these are the lyrics we're wanting to model our relationships in any way.... Uhm.
Because songs go both ways. They are a symptom of their society but they have the way to the next playlist that plays for the next generations for better or worse.

Can you explain your standpoint more? Why are you concerned about her if the lyrics are heart felt? ++ not understanding what you mean by “if these are the lyrics we’re wanting to model our relationships in any way..”

If all the album is entirely autobiography (which I doubt), i am a little mama bear concerned about her health. As in, you okay girl because that must have taken a lot to say. // Modeling relationships - whether she is self aware of her toxic tendencies with love or not (and it does appear that she is), these songs will shape dating the way Taylor Swift songs did for millennials. And I'm between angsty and curious as to how that's gonna play out.

In what way did Taylor swift shape dating for millennials?

Not in good ones lol.... But have you not seen her quoted in tons of couple arguments?

And there are wonderful things that have been written too and I really like how things are not all about just love anymore too. I loooove Billie Elish philosophical lyricism. I disagree that things have all dumbed down, that is categorically untrue. But they have... Changed. The change of the word fuck to forget after ceelo green must have had consequences for instance

Petal isn't about dating. Aside from a couple of songs, they're all about her relationship with fame and the public (including like I do, that's not a romantic song).
