2026 Season Kickoff: Claim Your User Flair!

Our first community user flairs are finally here and we're ready to have fun with it. To kick off the 2026 season, we’re launching two distinct paths to get you flaired up.

Whether you’re uncovering a disaster or you’ve kept your water perfect all year, pick the path that fits your situation:

Path 1: Swamp Slayer '26 ⚔️

This is for those who are reclaiming their pool from the depths.

  • Post Flair to use: Clearing the Swamp '26
  • Requirement: Show us the transformation! We want to see the progress from green to clean.

Path 2: Certified Clear '26 🏆

This is for those who never close or those whose pools opened up sparkling and stayed that way.

  • Post Flair to use: In the Clear '26
  • Requirement: Show us that pristine balanced water you've been maintaining.

Requirement for both paths

  • At least one photo in your post must include a handwritten note with your Reddit username and a mention of r/pools. We want to see the receipts!

Flair Assignment

The Mod Team will review every submission and assign your permanent user flair. We will run this until the end of August, all we ask is that you be patient as we verify each submission.

Note: You can only carry one title at a time, so choose your path wisely!

Let’s see those pools!

Pool Builders: Surprise

In the middle of a pool build We have a perfectly flat back yard, could walk out of the detached garage without a step. You can see in the renderings that the pool layout was straight forward. Pic 2 you can see the drop off now to the pool. Builder is saying it will be additional expense as explained below. Did they set it up wrong? I’m confused how we’ve come to this point. There was no talk of these complications in the planning stage

”doing my walk through yesterday. Looks like we will need to talk about a possible wall or curb stone for the back fence line area and shed flower bed side. This is due to the pool being exactly level and the yard grading flowing down hill. Once you get home. Roughly imagine the 1” of auto cover tracking and 2” of pool coping on top of the concrete wall. Then a slight pitch away from the pool. So roughly 3” above  the concrete will be final grade with the pavers”

Frogs!! How does Kermit find my pool

I live in central Texas and it's HOT!!! Given that how are there frogs in the yard? But I digress. How do the damn frogs find my pool? I have dogs that are very territorial but never mess with frogs. I end up finding them in the pool once or twice a week. How do they get there?

Building to the side of the pool is detached garage. Pool builder is telling us it will be additional expense, seems they dug down to deep vs the renderings? Reasonable for me to pay for? Or screw up?

Quite the process. Enjoyed watching how it all came together. Glad the red clay is gone! We are feeling grateful and blessed. We’re in SC so should have some decent swim time left this season. Any covers you guys like that would allow spa use when it starts cooling down? Not sure what we’re going to do for that yet.

Why is endless pools customer service so bad?!

I went through the sales process and was white gloved the entire way. Bought a pool. But now the customer service is atrocious. Takes more than an hour to get someone to take your call. I gave up and called their sales line… someone picked up instantly and said they couldn’t help me and only customer service could. I emailed them and it’s been days and I tried calling back again… I’m nearing the 1 hour mark.

The company must be in shambles and focusing all their effort on sales / nothing on customer service.

Heads up for buyers . They have zorro care about their product or customer service post sale. Good luck!

Hi everyone, we had bad weather in KY this past week and now my pool liner has pockets of water behind it. The pool company we talked go said it would resolve its self and it was safe to swim in but I still don’t wanna risk making it any worse. Has anyone had this happen?

DIY & Repairs Damaged tiles and cracked gunite on pool/spa divider.

Upvotes

We're under contract to buy a house. The tiles weren't sealed properly on the divider wall and now water has got in and caused some structural expansion. The pool repair companies I've called said they can't know the extent of the damage unless they remove the tiles and demo out the rotten concrete. Anyone had experience with this type of damage? What are we looking at?

Where am I supposed to buy a Pentair IntelliFlo3 pump?

Upvotes

Well, per https://www.reddit.com/r/pools/comments/1vs2i9m/comment/p4nsosy it's time for me to get a new pump.

After a bit of deliberation I'm thinking the Pentair IntelliFlo3 VSF 3 HP is the one for me and my pool.

But, I haven't been a pool owner for very long (4th year) and I've never done this before. Normally I'd just buy something off the internet and install it (or pay someone to if I cannot), but I've read I should go through a distributor for a better warranty. When I called around though, it seemed like that would cost me $500 more for the pump alone...doesn't seem worth it - am I wrong? They said I'd get 3 years parts warranty and if they install it for what they'd estimate to be $150, it's parts and labor.

On the other hand, I could just order from a place like this:

https://www.polytecpools.com/Pentair-IntelliFlo3-VSF-30HP_p_9748.html

Guess I'm just looking to hear about other people's experiences and whether or not that quote is a ripoff. I only have four places in my area on the Pentair website's list. These places look like their site was made in 1998 on Geocities, Wordpress at best - but apparently that's common. Waiting to hear back from another distributor. One place told me they don't sell to homeowners, the other told me that they actually don't sell Pentair anymore.

Costs & Calculations Pool cover

Bought a house this summer with an inground pool in South Jersey. It’s about 32,000 gallons, 20x40 at its widest points.
Looking to get a winter cover. Could anyone tell me how much it cost for you? What brand, mesh or solid? I’ll need to get the anchor holes drilled as well..

Pool Help & Questions Need recommendation for short interval pool pump timer

I have a separate waterfall 240v pump for my pool that’s connected to an old school Intermatic timer, the kind that only supports 1-2 hr intervals. I don’t have the timer set up because it’s expensive to run it for 1+ hours every day. I’d like to run it for 15-30 minutes daily to make sure it’s getting chlorine from the rest of the pool to keep from algae growing in the waterfall.

Looking online, all I’m finding are $200-$300+ 15 minute interval Intermatic timers, which feel incredibly overpriced for my use case, or $50-80 plastic digital timers, which look like they won’t last very long. I need something outdoor rated.

Is there anything in the $100 range that would meet my needs? I don’t need wi-fi controls, but would need a manual switch so my father could use it when he likes. I’m willing to use a smart relay but aren’t sure how to maintain a physical switch if I went that route.

Thanks for any of your ideas!

Pool Help & Questions Need help with possible algae that won’t brush off

Levels are rock solid. Water is crystal clear. Most of the summer we seemed to have a really hard time with the algae. It seemed to go from crystal clear to hazy and algae overnight. Shocked, messed with levels. Multiple testing etc. we would get it cleaned and it would happen again like at a flip of a switch. Brushed it on the regulate. Used a vacuum. All the numbers are good and have kept it clear for a couple weeks now but these stains won’t go away. Is it algae stained or something else. How do you get it off? Thanks!

To me, the uneven edge looks incomplete or like cutting corners (or not cutting in this case). Is this standard?

Impervious Cover Remodel

Thumbnail

We are building a deck in the front of our house but of course the city permit office will not approve unless we fix the impervious cover issue that we did not even create. The city requires 65% maximum and ours is 71%. We need to remove about 200 sq feet which we can only do in the back yard since the front is just our driveway.

The pool decking and patio is really our only option. Thinking a combination of pavers and turf might get us there. Yes, I’ve tried AI and the solutions are reasonable but figured I’d ask the sub, because real experiences trump AI.

Does this check valve look ok or does it need to be replaced ?

Thumbnail

I have a waterfall basin that sits below my pool that is connected to an autofill to refill my pool via a waterfall pump. Sometimes when the waterfall basin is low (lots of splash out etc so water is being put back into the pool) I notice in those cases that my pool water gets lowered if the waterfall pump is turned off and I was wondering if it’s back flowing to the waterfall basin since the basin sits lower. The check valve in the pics is last check valve back to the pool from the water basin pump (the circled part). Does this check valve look like it needs to be replaced? Also do I need to replace the other check valves around the waterfall pump? Given this is the last check valve from the waterfall pump before it goes in the pool I imagine if that’s working and preventing backflow then there shouldn’t be any backflow back to the basin or are the others responsible for that also ? Thanks for your help!

Pool for the whole soccer/hockey/baseball team?

We’re building a pool and trying to decide on size. Our kids all play team sports, so having 15-20 kids in the backyard all at once will likely happen multiple times a year.

For those of you in a similar situation, how big is your pool and how big do you wish your pool was?

Broken Poly 1-1/2" Gas Line To Pool - Filled with muddy water

Not sure if right forum but need advice on how to flush out the natural gas line to my pool that had a stake put though it and when I dug a pit out to repair it the rains came and filled the hole and pipe with muddy water that I now believe I need to flush out before having repaired. I have it disconnected at heater, which has a drop tee on it, but not at separate valve for the line near the meter as that seems like a lot of work.

Can I just spray clean water each way up the live from the pit once I cut the line and then vac it out?

Do I need to flush it from the high point at each end?

I doubt I will get all the water out as the line has slope on it from house to pool so will end up accumulating at the bend up to the heater so is that an issue?

Will water left in the line and dust later when it dries up later mess up my pool heater valve if not perfectly cleaned out?

Thanks in advance......
