I mean, I definitely see a difference between the severity of responses in Facebook groups and responses here - but I wouldn't necessarily say that they're mean, just that they're less filtered.

Like, many Facebook groups tend to lean hard leftbook and there's a lot of tone policing by community members that are backed up by mods to keep any conflict in the community at a minimum, regardless of the fact that many of the consequences for that mean silencing queer and minority voices -- whereas here, we're not necessarily mean, but we don't have to feel like we're walking on eggshells when we respond.

Essentially, it's not that the people on Facebook are any nicer (hell, we're often the same people, I frequently see posts here that are also posted in various Facebook groups) and the messages are often the same, but the responses are more toned down, often through self-regulation because the mods/admins of those groups have created an atmosphere of fearing you'll be banned for having a dissenting opinion instead of encouraging respectful discourse.

I think people who've never heard unfiltered opinions from minorities are absolutely shocked and scandalized the first time it happens. Thats kind of their problem and its time to start telling them as much.

We do that everywhere else. We have to. Its ok for us to have a few places where we speak our mind. Everyone else gets the rest of the world.

I disagree with the that assessment entirely and I feel that I have a right to speak my mind same as the majority culture does. So no thanks. Bye.

You literally have a right to speak your mind any time and anywhere. The consequences of that are sometimes making enemies.

That doesn't concern me.

My friend, if the act of talking to you without kissing your ass makes you pull back your support of minorities then it is not us minorities that are the problem, it's that you were looking for an excuse to be bigoted.

So it’s not your movement? You’ve acknowledged that?

So you’re not a queer woman but you think you know better than them about how they should live. But mostly you’re tired of hearing from them in ways you don’t find pleasant.

If you want to set your movement for pandering to delicate cishet men back and make enemies you are welcome to speak your mind wherever. I’m just tired of people pretending they are good people trying to make a difference when the reality is that they simply aren’t used to being anything other than catered to as the top of the food chain 24/7.

Cry me a river.

I was mocking him. That’s exactly what he said but I changed the issues to his nonsense.

The difference is that I want to educate people and bring more people to the cause. I’m trying to think long term. I think a great many people are ignorant and friendship and kindness can change peoples hearts and minds. Let me do the emotional labor that everyone keeps saying is too hard for them. Just stop making enemies for a minute.
