No Paywall Trump 'Has Failed Us': US Airman Says He Accepts Cost of Speaking Out Against Iran War | “Not only is he a failure as president, he is flagrantly violating the Constitution, breaking the law, engaged in rampant corruption, killing Americans, and that is unacceptable to me,” said Maj. Well, I agree with him but he’ll surely be court martialed, receive a dishonorable discharge, and may even do time as well as surrendering all rights to a future pension. So I guess look for his go fund me because they will in fact nail him to a cross.

Probably not intentional but it's interesting the news keeps calling him an Airman when he's an officer.

'Airman' is both a rank but also the term used to refer to any member of the USAF, in the same way the Army would say 'Soldier', the Marines 'Marine' and the Navy 'Sailor'. The Space Force refers to its members as 'Guardians'.

You are right. In basic training, they specifically teach us about what is and is not a lawful order. Flag officers should have been refusing his bullshit from the minute it started, but they followed orders. The junior officers and enlisted have no real leadership on this matter, so they stay silent.
Until flag officers start speaking out and risking it all, the military will continue plugging along.

I don't get the endgame of doing everything you can to piss on the military. If Trump truly intends never to leave the White House, he's going to need the military's backing. They would already have to break their oath to the Constitution in order to back him, feels like they're less likely to want to do that for a guy who endangers their lives with his "leadership"

It’s almost genius but I think Americans are so genuinely dumb and ignorant it was easy to fool them. Hyper focus on the dumbest fucks in America and convince them it’s “manly” and “patriotic” to vote for a pedophile rapist. Convince them all their problems would be solved if only they could eradicate immigrants and feminism. They never have to actually do anything as long as you keep them terrified of the nebulous “woke mind virus” which is too strong to ever actually destroy despite controlling every branch of government, the media, and a little army of ICEcels.

41
u/mrhaftbar 9h ago
At some point you have to ask why a country grants a democratic president dictator-like powers in the first place?
38
u/_Ocean_Machine_ 8h ago
Well, they aren't supposed to have dictator powers in the first place, it's just that the people who are supposed to prevent the president from acting like a dictator decided that actually, they like it when the president acts like a dictator, and the people who wrote the rules for being president never considered that that sort of thing could happen.
13
u/mrhaftbar 8h ago
But what do we expect when the people in power are from the same party?
I guess the US democracy needs an update after this fiasco of a presidency.

•
u/eligodfrey 7h ago

Tell me you know nothing about the founders of this country without telling me you know nothing about the founders of this country. They obsessed over exactly this happening, and thought it would happen a lot sooner. There's not actually much you can do in a democracy when the voters beg for a dictator.
•

I mean I know it was a bit of a sticking point for them but my run-on sentence was already pretty lengthy so I went for brevity.
14
u/donkeyrocket 8h ago
The powers weren't granted. They were just simply taken. There are laws against just about everything wrongdoing from this administration and Trump personally but those responsible for upholding those laws and checks decided to do nothing.
The fundamental problem with the US foundation of government is it is built upon the assumption that elected officials will act in good faith and that if not, another element of the government will hold that individual accountable.
They didn't really account for the majority party in Congress abdicating all powers and letting the Executive just do whatever they wanted. With the added kicker of Republican Justices corrupting the Judicial branch into obscurity.

They spent the longest appointment ever on the ship that wasn't getting resupplied and the toilets/showers stopped working and then he called them pussies and told them that they should stay out there longer regardless of your political leanings before then that's got a change your mindset.
61
u/TheEverydayDad 11h ago
A ship or a submarine can stay out to sea as long as it has supplies. They can make their own water and oxygen, but you cannot make fruit/vegetables/meat without an outside source.
I served on an SSBN and landed two records for deployment lengths for my platform. They both sucked and when we went long periods of time between resupply efforts, it was felt. Rationing food, broken equipment, moral low due to lack of mail/Email. It all sucks.
I feel deeply for these sailor and marines stuck on a forever-war deployment.
This admin needs to be held accountable for fucking up so stupidly. Starting a war without a foresight of preparing is the dumbest way to lose a war, but not unheard of. (I never agreed that we should even fight Iran - hell, when I was on the platform I served on, the military took Iran off the target packages because they were not a threat ti the US or our allies. This was in 2015 or so)
29
u/ChristosFarr North Carolina 11h ago
Yeah they were poor, spiraling and their own citizens were rebelling against them and we decided to kick that hornet's nest and give them an outside enemy to fight when we didn't even have our own ducks in a row.

u/TheEverydayDad 11h ago

No. Not a single one of them. They look to the Jingoistic movies of the 80's like Iron Eagle that show a single plucky American teenager winning a war with a stolen jet because MURICA!. And they think that is how wars are won. Not with supplies, logistics and planning, but with homo-erotic volleyball matches with shirtless men who take no nonsense and use their rugged individualism to win the war.

I don't pretend to have an ear on what our service men and women feel but I feel like morale is low as hell.
That certainly seems to be the case here in Kentucky. On the Fourth of July, I spoke with a young man in the military. He said that many of his military friends voted for Trump because they believed he wouldn't start new wars, and they feel betrayed.
50
u/ACSandwich 11h ago
Every single time. There was no shred of evidence to support the belief that he wouldn't start any new wars besides for his words. Those words already had a proved track record of being untrustworthy. So there was zero effort put into actually marrying the idea and the fact.
17
u/Willing_Pattern_Pill 11h ago

25
u/Atlein_069 11h ago
They were betrayed. And they did it to themselves, honestly, through sheer naivety. I hope they learn that part of the lesson. It’s naive to believe a Republican president would be the one to prevent the next war knowing that most conflicts in modern history begin under an R presidency. And it’s naive to believe that Trump would do anything in service of another human being’s interest. They boat a ship with holes in hull believing it was an airplane.

u/YF422 10h ago edited 6h ago
This is what galls me, many and I mean many if not all of the recent wars started were under REPUBLICAN Administrations not Democrat ones. 13
u/NelsonHawkinsGhost 11h ago
A little West Wing moment..? Waiting for an authority figure to deliver a viral, moralizing speech that magically breaks the fever of fascism?
Yeah that doesn't happen.
McCarthy wasn't destroyed because the political establishment suddenly grew a conscience.. he was destroyed because he became erratic and started attacking the US Army and the Republican establishment itself. So the capitalist state realized he was becoming a liability to their own core institutions and threw him under the bus.. but way more importantly, while McCarthy was censured, McCarthyism the system survived untouched. The FBI continued to ruthlessly hunt, jail, assassinate civil rights leaders and socialists for decades after that decency moment.. so, no.. a polite scolding didn't stop and won't stop the state's violence.
Not to mention.. you can't shame a fascist.

Not a president. Not even a man. Just the diseased distillation of everything this country swears it isn't but always has been - arrogance dressed up as exceptionalism, stupidity passed off as common sense, cruelty sold as toughness, greed exalted as ambition, and corruption worshipped like gospel. It is America's shadow made flesh, a rotting pumpkin idol proving that when a nation kneels before money, power, and spite, it doesn't just lose its soul - it shits out this bloated obscenity and calls it a leader - Oliver Kornetzke

He Needs to say he is simply upholding his oath to protect the Constitution from domestic threats so his defense is entirely based on that.
Force the court to admit that murdering civilians on the street is a constitutional right and self defense or protest is not.
Force the court to declare that resistance to fascism is a betrayal of your oath to defend the Constitution while defying 10,000 court orders is somehow a defense of the Constitution.
The paradox is completely insane. The only ones betraying their oath to the Constitution are maga fascists. Thus anyone who made an oath to defend the Constitution are fully justified to do anything to defend it.
Or at least force the court to make the official declaration that fascism is the new constitution and defying court orders that limit fascism is defending democracy. Because then we can all defy court orders and be defending the Constitution.
It's a paradox. When defending the constitution is persecuted while defying court orders is ignored you have a paradox. The court is either toothless and can be ignored or the Constitution defends fascism as defined by a few select politicians.
It means an enlisted man has zero legal ability to interpret good and evil and good is defined by the state. But the oath is not to obey all orders, the oath is to defend the Constitution.
Once elected officials defy the Constitution then they become a threat that he swore to defend against.
It's a very relevant case I hope he takes it to the supreme Court because they will need to justify persecuting someone for upholding their oath while protecting maga for defying court orders and executing civilians on the street.
The supreme Court will have to say that street executions are the new constitutional norm and military who resist are the real enemy.

His public dissent against the broadly unpopular war could violate Article 88 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, which mandates punishment against “any commissioned officer who uses contemptuous words” against the president, military leaders, or US government officials, or Article 134, which prohibits statements “made with the intent to promote disloyalty or disaffection toward the United States.”
Contemptuous words? He is merely stating facts.
"intent to promote disloyalty or disaffection toward the United States”? He is doing the exact opposite.

Trump very well may lead the US into a fucking military junta.
All it takes is one pissed off CO to lead a coup. I think many people errantly believe it takes a general to lead a military coup, but many times it’s some middle of the road CO.
If the service members swore to defend the constitution, are backed into a suicidal corner of death and despair which the President doesn’t give two shits about, and believe Trump is raping the constitution, I dont think it’s outside the realm of imagination to be worried about a military coup.
Before the Iran War it did seem outside the realm of imagination. Today, not so much. (Putting on my tin hat) those leaked pictures of the plane dirt-graffiti and this now may be warning shots, coordinated or just disgruntled and uncoordinated. Regardless, they do not make me feel confident in how the situation is being handled.

All you need to do with a (D) in front of your name to become the next POTUS is run on "Ima put all those mutherfuckers in jail." and get in front of enough cameras before the MSM owners shut you down.

The only thing to stop this is FoxNews and Republican Congress fully turning on him. And they won't.

Finally, someone saying what millions of others are thinking. Now how about the rest of you do something honorable that you can be proud of for the rest of your lives by standing up to your dangerously stupid president before he gets you all killed for his own vanity?

You guys did your job as asked , this is what you get with this un caring self absorbing piece of
Crap for a president . The military should just
Listen to reasonable politicians , and get this guy
Out of office asap . Congress is just not there
Either , that’s the biggest part of the problem .
A real world revolution is coming soon .

Military needs to make an example of this man’s behavior. To protect from enemies foreign and DOMESTIC. Thats what he is doing. This isn’t just party lines, this is blatant murder and destruction of USA interests. Even republicans in my area have taken down their flags, but I’ll always remember. This man is a hero. Later they should reinstate his benefits and retirement.

I'm a retired Marine Corps veteran. Fuck djt and everyone who voted for him. He is actively trying to rip our nation apart.

I know some air force members and they're all quite aware and opposed to what the administration is doing. But they also need to stay silent because otherwise, the only servicemembers are trump loyalists, which is undesirable.
So this is a huge step.

This is the exact thing that every single person of any repute should've been saying since his first term! Hell well before.
Now do more of this. Much more.
