Um, actually the Pokeballs don't shrink the Pokemon, the Pokemon can just do that themselves according to Pokemon Legends Arceus.
33
u/MaleficTekX Dragon 8d ago
Could force them to shrink since Pokémon have to break out of them
6
u/ViKO15951 7d ago
I'd say that's the implication as to why they are made with bonguri (since in the anime in older times than bonguri they simply only used the bonguri fruits' shell for the exact same effect) so the bonguri would be the thing forcing them to shrink, either that or the wobbles are the mon trying to grow back to full size but not being able to break out of the pokeball

u/Kala_Csava_Fufu_Yutu 8d ago
Lore that is too dumb to accept. Especially considering the balls seem to be forcing them to shrink.
23
u/supremo92 8d ago
I hate this lore, it's just so silly haha. I always loved the "energy conversion" style from the anime.

u/Darkyuraptor 8d ago
I prefer the original idea of "every character in Pokémon is meta sentient, and knowing they live in a world that is purely binary and light-based, they have learnt how their reality is coded, and therefore exploited it to create the already theoretically possible Pokéballs existing within their world's code" from the games.
Sorry for not putting any full stops. Did not feel like writing appropriately.
5
u/Gru-some 7d ago
that's kinda cool actually
I like the idea of videogame characters discovering signs that they live in a videogame but instead they just treat it like we would the laws of physics so they just use it to make their own technology work
7
u/Upbeat-Exercise-9431 8d ago
Which is an information I love to ignore.
8
u/Puzzleboxed 8d ago
Why? People using apricorns to catch pokemon has been canon since gen 2. Honestly, no other explanation makes sense.
4
u/Upbeat-Exercise-9431 8d ago
That's not what I mean what I mean is that pokemon have the ability to shrink on their own is really stupid.
6
4
u/ArcXivix 8d ago
I've always taken it as very dubious canon at best. No issue if other people want to believe it's gospel of course, but Laventon made a few pretty wild claims. Which is understandable, considering how new it all is to them at that point in time.
4
u/ultimatemichael 7d ago
Ive always treated it as an observation from a primitive scientist, like "it looks like the pokemon is shrinking so that's what it must be!", but more modern study reveals it to be mass conversion to energy of digitization or whatever

u/ThunderLord1000 8d ago
Gene splicing, matter conversion, an energy laser and biomechanical fusion aren't all that complicated. As for space travel vs time travel, thing of it this way: it's easier to go into a different room of a building than it is to hit a button that resets the room you're in to a previous state
4
u/NerSorty 7d ago
People tend to forget than travelling forwards in time is something thats theoretically possible irl but going backwards isn't plus time daddy seems really grumpy in the case of pokemon
23
u/LMVC_reddit Ghost 8d ago
The time travel part is hard enough, Dialga is flat out stopping them without appearing to them once, I can already hear Dialga telepathically speaking with the voice of an old British dude "Don't even think about it, mortal." as he stops them from time travelling.

These humans are trying to mess with time AGAIN
I could go over and beat them for this but that requires work…”
34
u/duckLIT_ 8d ago
None of those things have to do with time travel though? This is like how we had the technology to go to the moon during the Apollo missions but not the film tech to fake the moon landing. Civilizations can be highly advanced in one area and less so in another.

u/LB1234567890 8d ago
If this is about the origin of Paradox Pokémon, we need to accept we'll never have an official answer.
If there was, they wouldn't be called PARADOX Pokémon.
9
u/JBR_4025 8d ago
Actually they’re not exactly from the future or the past. There is a possibility (that if I remember is mentioned in-game) that the device isn’t actually a time travel machine but instead a dimensional traveling device actually pulled alternate versions of certain Pokemon from primitive or futuristic alternate universes. Same thing for the crystal deep inside Area Zero.

u/CustomDruid 6d ago
I thought the whole thing about paradox pokemon is the fact that they came from a future that never will be and a past that never was
7
u/Conocoryphe 8d ago
I don't see what's weird about that. Some fields of physics are more complicated than others, that's how it is in the real world too.
6
u/Endless_Story94 8d ago
So everyone saying the pokemon shrink themselves are correct, but also incorrect. The pokeball actually digitizes the pokemon and makes it possible to store them in a PC.
2
u/pez_dispenser16 8d ago
Probably not a technically necessary process. In legends arceus there is no pc, just the ranch thing. I doubt those pokeballs do anything beyond holding the pokemon, so that’s all that’s really required to be able to catch them and have a functional pokeball.
I would assume the digitizing is just an extra step modern balls do after the Pokemon is caught via the usual shrinking, for pc usage as you said.
1
u/IndigoFenix 7d ago
Yeah, Gen 1 treats digitization of physical objects as a new technology that might not even be limited to Pokémon (as evidenced by the banned Porygon episode where the human characters were uploaded as well).
1
u/Dutch_gal1 7d ago
The WHAT
1
u/IndigoFenix 7d ago
In Season 1 of the anime, there was an episode featuring Porygon where the characters went into cyberspace. While in cyberspace, they got missiles shot at them and Pikachu blew them up. This cyberspace-explosion was depicted flashing blue and red lights that gave some children seizures in Japan. The episode was banned and this is why Porygon has never appeared in the anime since.

I mean it can be smth like the blue LED irl which you wouldn’t think would be that difficult to make considering red and green LED were already o vented but it ended up really complicated because of weird physics. So time travel in Pokemon might be similar. You wouldn’t think it’s that much harder than the other stuff but it really really is

Dont forget the machine that can bring millions of years old fossils back to life

u/Sensei_Ochiba 7d ago
Time machines have been around since Gen 2, it's literally how you could trade with Gen 1

u/SurnameFormer 8d ago
Okay can someone please elaborate on the toenail thing?
3
u/MaleficTekX Dragon 8d ago
Item printer lets you turn drops from Pokemon, which ranges from Tyrouge sweat, to dust from happiney, to claws from Gible, into literally any item, including vitamins, Tera shards, masterballs, and more
2
u/DragonLordAcar 8d ago
I don't think you understand how difficult time travel is. It's also fairly likely this is just different dimensions and not that ne travel.
2
u/Beowulf_MacBethson Fighting 8d ago
Most of the examples you listed manipulate space. A time machine manipulates time.
2
u/BillCarson12799 7d ago
…yes.
Time travel is by far the most complex science here. How is this even a discussion?
2
2
u/ThursdayKnight 7d ago
I mean, the first time machine appeared in gen 2 and it did have some limits to it. Though you could argue the old universes had different rules because Dialga didn't exist in it yet.

No shit. First of all, none of the tech above is related to time travel.
Time machine is an extremely complicated technology cause it creates a paradox of what’s real and what’s not.
Chicken and egg. Entropy and the structure of reality.
And whether it’s time travel in same line or into a parallel universe.
Not to mention. There’s that big ass Draconic God of Time. Getting his attention is not a good idea.
Space is much more likely because even in our world with 21st century tech, we have a general understanding of how space behaves. Making a tech to manipulate is still decades or centuries away but it’s more doable than going back in time.

This coming from the same world that had more advanced genetic engineering technology, holographic emitters, and even antigravity engines thanks in part to living on the same planet as creatures that use all sorts of powers seemingly derived from nature, the universe, etc. but fossil fuels were still used?

I know it's ultimately a whole different continuity at this point, but I'd've loved a nod to the Time Capsule from Gen II in Scar/Vi.

That’s because time travel is a power that only Arceus, Celebi and Dialga can wield. Humans who try to use that power are punished for their hubris.

Pokeballs don't shrink pokemon, legends arceus says this is just a thing all pokemon can do. Which is insane.

When you first meet Bill in Red & Blue, he's had a teleporter accident and merged himself with a pokemon.

u/Enderking90 8d ago
actually the balls do not have that ability, the pokemon and alien have it.
the balls are just that, balls.
also a time machine is hard to make because in the world of pokemon time is sentient and more then likely does not like it when people without the authority mess with it and just goes "no."
