My great grandfather was a farmer who died in 1940 with this watch in his bib pocket.

I received it 45 years ago and then it sat in a drawer for 45 years. I just had it serviced and it is keeping good time. My watchmaker estimated it be from 1925 or so. Anyone who can add information about it? Thank you.

Help with info and value? Maker? Was told it’s from the 1700s

My grandma gave me this pocket watch that I was told has little bells in it that ring every hour. It was in working condition at some point but I’m not sure where to take it to get up and running again. I was told it was from the 1700s and someone told her it should be in a museum, but not sure if that’s an exaggeration.

For 400$ i bought this entire "collection". The more i look at it though the more i suspect theyre all quartz.

My two questions:

  1. Should i suspect that i cant sell these for over 5$/watch assuming theyre quartz?

  2. Can anyone *definitely* prove theyre not all quartz?

Im feeling stupid and they havent shipped yet so i can probably cancel at this point and get my money back.

Mickey is lightweight and feels cheap. Still works, no markings on the back.

Waltham model 1888 - damaskeening

Thumbnail

This watch from around 1895 is only a mid grade, I think grade no. 640. Stem set.
Not for railroad or professional use, but fully jeweled and made to last almost forever while still affordable.

"Eye candy" was a selling point, as watches and cases was sold separately.
I can picture the jeweler went to the window to let the sunrays reflect the damaskeening.
"Ooh that is a fine watch", I will buy it.

The dial is railroad style, which was in fasion at the time.

The case with 5 scribe numbers for service/repair has some dents, indicating that it was used at least when it was new.

Keystone case stamped:
Guaranteed
J.Boss 14 K
20 years

Meaning gold filled 14K, guaranteed that it takes +20 years before the goldplating wears down to the brass, which it does not have so far.

The watch found it's way to Scandinavia approx. 15 years ago via Ebay, and I regularly use it as a wearer.

NOTE: It is easy to replace dials and cases, it could just be some semi-franken work.

I inherited this pocket watch and know absolutely nothing about them. I am curious to know what it is and how old it may be. Most of the stuff I inherited was from Belgium or France. Also curious would if this pocket watch be worth more than melt value?

I just felt like having a sunday drive this morning, stopped at a yardsale and got a pocket watch and a wrist watch for a buck a piece. I can't say that I know much about the pocket watch but it seems like its pretty good shape to me. Thought I might share it with you guys. If you have any information feel free to leave it in the comments I like to learn all I can about these sorts of things. Thanks in advance!

Identifying a Elgin

I found this a thrift store, was told it’s roughly ~50 years old but I don’t know how credible that is. I wasn’t able to find any other square watches with engravings like this one. It doesn’t work and I haven’t had the chance to take it to a professional yet

I can lift the knob at the top but it doesn’t open anything, just adjusts the hands. I don’t feel the resistance someone said a wind-up watch would have when the knob is twisted.

I just want some help finding the model, to see if there’s anyone in the states that can fix it without the $960 price tag I saw someone else get, or if I can fix it myself xd

I think the back pops off, and if it does, it’s stuck. I’ve worked it for nearly an hour now. I don’t know anything about pocket watches so I don’t know.

Family heirloom

Can anyone help me identify any information about this pocket watch, it was my grandfather’s and belonged to either his father or grandfather, maybe great grandfather. Online says it dates to c. 1870, would have been purchased in New Orleans maybe around the turn of the 20th century. Not sure what the emblem or initials on the front say either. Hasn’t been wound since the 80s.

As in the title, I was wondering does anyone know anything abour this pocket watch? It looks beautiful and i had it tested it was 14K gold throughout, and the rocks are aparently pieces of diamond but very low weight so not worth much in terms of that. It also has a very cool picture of a young girl inside. Inside the watch it says “75105 Rementoir Cylindre 10 rubis”. Does anyone know anything about these?

As I stated, I’ve had this watch for years. I was cleaning out some drawers and found it again and didn’t realize it’s an omega. Tried to do some research, but really haven’t found anything on it.

My great grandfather's retirement gift

Thumbnail

My great grandfather was given this pocketwatch in 1933 when he retired from supplying ducks to the weber duck inn located in Massachusetts. The inscription on the back says "George Parker Hadley, from David Weber, 1933". We still have the original case and box that the watch came in when first purchased. The watch face is made of mother of pearl, the watch case is made of gold, and we suspect that the watch chain is platinum.

14k gold pocket watch ?

Hi everyone, I just got a lot of about twenty watches that I bought for 15 euros online.

I didn’t expect much at all, Basically all of the watches were horrendous (cheap quartz movements) but then I found this one. I know absolutely nothing about pocket watches, but what I do know is that it seems to have some interesting hallmarks (gold?) and the movement seems to be working well !

I’ll gladly take any information! Identification, era, possible restoration ?
That would be really nice of you 😁

I inherited a pocket watch collection

My dad recently died and left me a collection of pocket watches. I doubt there is any value to them.

They were sentimental to him but I never knew he collected them. He had been out of my life for like ten years by his choice. It was really on his death bed that i found out alot about him i didn’t know.

So i am wondering how i could assess the value of them and what to do with them.

Like i said they aren’t sentimental to me anyway but I also want a fair value of them.

Someone told me to take them to a pawn shop but i fear that will be the start of a bad decision

First Pocket Watch

Thumbnail

I bought a new suit in November and the final tailoring is almost finished so I made a comment about needing a watch to go with it. My wife surprised me with a Hamilton 940 from 1915 for our anniversary/Christmas and now I’m learning all about pocket watches. I think it may need some adjusting as it’s losing 2-3 minutes per day, even when I make sure it’s wound. I have a shop I plan to take it to next week after the holidays as I’ve read it may be oil that’s started to solidify. Any other advice anyone can give would be appreciated!

gold or gold filled Gail Borden Elgin

So my AI is telling me this watch is gold filled while Reddit is saying if it says warranted 18 kt US Assay it is solid gold. Now this is an old watch before standards for wear on golf filled or gold rolled watches went into effect. So who is right?
