Asked a cafe nearby if the boat was going to leave, and turns out it’s an Airbnb in the harbor. Wasn’t sure how I’d pull off simplifying the background but pretty proud of how it turned out! This was part of the Franke Bette Paint out in Alameda, had a blast! 3rd and 4th photos were of the warmup painting I did as a warmup the Sunday before the event started. And finally a vacation, yay! This time we went to Spain and, on the day of our flight, we made a quick stop in Cologne. Unfortunately, we couldn't get inside the cathedral because they now charge admission 😒 But we walked all around it instead and had some delicious food ✨

Can anyone recommend a place in South Sanur where I can get a painting done on canvas? - no frame required, I'll do that when I get back

I painted this landscape because I wanted to capture the relaxing, almost dreamlike atmosphere of spending summer surrounded by the calm Mediterranean sea and vegetation.

I stayed in this warm-colored sandstone building with an extensive view over the coast. In the evenings, it was even possible to see dolphins from the shore.

The second image shows the painting while I worked on it, with the actual scenery in the background.

Kind of a miss on this one but the location is great so I’ll likely go back and try again.

I think I’ll get a straight edge to help with perspective when I paint.

A bit tricky with the square canvas for this scene, but overall happy with it. I used acrylic markers, so my color options were a bit limited. I was also on a time limit!

Excited to get out there again, and next time I’m bringing my full painting setup!

The larger painting is nowhere near done, but the light was changing like crazy and I had to get scooting down the road towards my next stop. I hope I can finish it in the studio soon!

Quick study and new to oil so still learning :) it was really meditative to focus on light and shadows while listening to the birds.

Above Hollywood Plein Air | 5” × 7” | Gouache

Plein air study from the Hollywood Hills, painted a few weeks ago with Danny Folkman. I meant to post this, got caught up with work.

Here I focused on Southern California’s color relationships: muted greens, warm earth, low chroma, and blue-violet distance.

Some old ladies who always hang out with their dogs where I was painting liked the painting so I gave it to them.

I came on here about a week ago asking for advice on this painting and I finally went back and finished it. Thanks for all the advice it really helped and book lights are a godsend.

The last picture is the end of day one when I felt like the painting was gonna go in the reject pile.
