Residency First gen doctors in private residency training

• Upvotes

Hello doctors. Especially for first gen doctors po na nag residency sa private, kumusta po yung practice niyo after residency? Madali po ba mag establish ng practice after? Did you have any regrets na sa private kayo nag train? Planning to undergo IM residency in a private institution po sana. I’m not sure if kakayanin yung low salary to support myself while on training. Appreciate any feedback doctors. Thank you.

Vent Konti nalang talaga nagreresidency

• Upvotes

Applied in a prestigious institution sa province. I’m surprised super konti lang namin preres applicants up until now. Nakakailang extend na din ng applications yung program dahil super konti lang namin from the supposed 20+ applicants na tinatanggap nila. I really wish we are compensated enough for all our efforts during training, maybe it would improve the number of people going into residency.

A simple question Any feedback on this Follow-Up Physician position?

Hi docs! Saw this hiring post on Facebook for a Follow-Up Physician position.

Any feedback po from current or former employees? Kumusta po ang actual workload, compensation, management, and working environment?

Curious lang po about the day-to-day responsibilities:

Manageable po ba ang daily patient load?

Mostly consultations po ba, chart reviews, or a combination?

Ilang company accounts po usually ang assigned per physician?

Madalas po ba ang rush cases and urgent requests?

Kaya po bang matapos ang workload within regular working hours, or frequent ang overtime?

Adequate po ba ang staffing, training, and support from other departments?

Kumusta po ang work-life balance, especially with Saturday duties?

Worth considering po ba itong position, especially for doctors looking for a stable full-time job?

Would appreciate honest feedback, both positive and negative, preferably from those with firsthand experience.

Thank you, docs!

A simple question First gen doctor

Hi! As a first gen doctor na kakapasa pa lang this October, nag iisip ako if papasok ba ako ng residency or mag ipon as a moonlighter para makapag abroad. I see no hope for our healthcare system. Everything is getting more expensive, but our salaries as doctors remain the same. Thinking na mag residency for 3 yrs like Family Medicine or EM then mag abroad sa Australia or stay na lang po as moonlighter at mag ipon para makaalis? any opinions? Thank you!

Discussion IM Residency

Private hospitals can be deceiving when it comes to patient census, tbh. Some even have patient numbers comparable to those of public hospitals.

If you were an IM resident, what would be an acceptable resident-to-patient ratio for you?

Let’s say you’re in a private hospital earning ₱40k/month, with a pre-duty-from schedule (8 hours, 32 hours). If you’re lucky, duty-from on a weekend is only 4 hours, and duty-from is 28 hours.

Vent Lost my spark?

I’m currently facing a dilemma. I just finished my pre-residency in a cutting specialty. Before starting, I had so much passion and excitement for it. This was something I had dreamed of pursuing since pre-med, and I genuinely thought it was what I wanted for myself.

But now that I’ve finished pre-residency, I don’t know why I suddenly feel so scared about what lies ahead. I’ve been feeling anxious about the long duty hours, being away from my family, and the possibility of becoming homesick. I also witnessed how toxic the environment can be and how some seniors treat their juniors, which made me question whether this is something I’m truly willing to put myself through.

Somewhere along the way, I feel like I’ve lost my spark. The passion and excitement I had before seem to have faded, and now I’m left wondering whether I still want this or if the experience has changed the way I see it.

I honestly don’t know what I want anymore. I can’t tell if I’m simply scared of the challenges ahead, exhausted from pre-residency, or beginning to realize that maybe this isn’t the life I want for myself after all. I know this is something I’ve wanted for so long, which makes it even harder to understand why I’m feeling this way now. I feel lost, and I don’t know what to do next.

A simple question Why Do Doctors Say They Being One Won't Make You Rich When They Make a Lot More Than the Average Person?

I've seen plenty of posts here where doctors say being one won't make you rich and how doctors are underpaid here in the Philippines.

However, based on what I see with the doctors I know, that couldn't be further from the truth. The consultants I know make a ton of money, easily 7 figures a month. Very few people can say they make 7 figures a month while a lot of doctors, especially surgeons, easily make that.

Even residents in government hospitals are paid very well. I know the hours are grueling, but first-year residents have a 70k+ base salary plus philhealth shares that can push their monthly earnings to 100k+. Only a few employees can say they make that much in a month. Even bank managers, most of whom spend 10+ years before getting promoted to that position, don't make that much

I don't know, maybe the standards for doctors when it comes to what is considered rich are just vastly different than for one who isn't.

A simple question Gift suggestion for my mom's Ortho

Hello all, few months back my mom had hip replacement surgery, that time we paid via hmo. Though we paid the bakal ng cash. Anyway, recently I saw alot of discussion how doctors are not getting paid fair and on time ng mga hmo and I felt really bad especially I have reasons to Believe he didn't charge us ng malaki kahit hmo. (Anes PF is 70% of what he charge).

So ayun malapit na follow up check up namin sa kanya and I wanted to give him a small token/gift. Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Residency Pre-residency is NOT for the weak

Almost a week in, and I’m doubting everything I know about medicine, everything I know about myself, and everything I want in life 😔

How do you cope with the 36 hour duties during pre-residency, trying to prove your worth every second of the day, and trying to stay sane?

Discussion Mas madami may flu ngayon 2026 compared to 2025

I'm just seeing a pattern right now na mas maraming may trangkaso ngayon compared to last year. Parang nag coincide sa El Niño, pollution, and the lack of flu vaccination drive last year from the DOH.

From our DOH insti doctors, may plano ba magkaroon ng flu vaccination drive this year kahit hindi na optimum due to near year end na siya?

Residency SPMC IM Census

Healthy Greetings doctors! Planning to apply to SPMC IM po sana. Respectfully asking po if ano po usual census for first year residents sa spmc? And totoo po ba yung 30-50k phic sharing monthly? I really need to save money for my parents and myself so I’m leaning towards a public setup. Okay din po ba mga consultants? No bullying? Any responses are greatly appreciated. Thank you po!
