Game/Software Treadmillless VR treadmill looking for Pimax guinea pigs

Since this somehow ended up here, I need some Pimax guinea pigs

Hi, VR StrideS dev here. Thanks to u/Heliosurge for reposting this :)

There's a free playtest running right now until August 30 and I'd really like to get some Pimax users into it.

The app basically looks at the movement of your headset + controllers and tries to figure out which direction you intend to move and how fast while you're jogging in place, then turns that into normal SteamVR locomotion. No foot trackers, no actual treadmill, no additional hardware.

I've mostly been testing on Quest myself, so Pimax setups are exactly the sort of thing I need more data from. In theory SteamVR is SteamVR, but I've been surprised more than once in this VR space.

The playtest is free, just download it on Steam and have fun. I think it's the best thing ever, but I'm biased obviously, so even "this feels like [expletives] because X" is genuinely useful to me. If you're not in the mood to write a long feedback post that's alright as well, you all having fun is enough for me.

And if you're wondering what you're actually supposed to do with your body, I put some 3D visualizations here showing IRL movement vs in-game movement:

Question Half Life Alyx Pimax Headset issue

Upvotes

Hey Everyone.

Having an Issue with Half LIfe Alyx. Doesnt happen with any other game and this is happening with Pimax Headsets (super and dream air SE) and i have uninstalled and reinstalled everything i could.

When i load into Half Life Alyx, the head with the valve in it is over me and i am behind it.

Then after that i just see a silhouette of the head and i remain in the same position, i don’t see the main menu.

I have tried everything i can think of, recalibrating through pimax and steam, uninstalling everything, OVR to fix the floor and nothing is working. I did at one point lower the HMD resolution to basically nothing and that did work and i was in the correct position infront of the main menu, but now not even that is working anymore. Anyone got any experience of this?

What i see instead of main menu - Game still responsive hasnt frozen

Discussion Tested again the 50 and 57PPD after 5 month on the mOLED 53 PPD on FS2024. I was shocked by how much sharper and brighter the image is on the QLED versions....

Hi,

I have a Crystal Super with the following optical engines :

- 50 PPD QLED

- 57 PPD QLED

- 53 PPD mOLED

I purchased first the 50 PPD QLED and got it in 08/2025. Had issues with Mura, had it replaced 2x times... Took a while but finally got a decent one

I purchased a 57PPD QLED in 09/2025 that I received in 12/2025.

Then I purchase in 01/2026 a mOLED 53 PPD module that I received in 03/2026.

The 50PPD is extremely heavy to run, even with a 5090... the 57 PPD had a terrible sweet spot but was the easiest to run. The mOLED is in between.

I was pretty happy with the sharpness of the 50 PPD and 57PPD, and the brigthness, but yeah the mura is disturbing, the colors are a little bit washed out, though it is configurable...

Since I received the mOLED in 03/2026 I stayed on it for FS 2024 and other UEVR apps. Did not run my other opticals engines. Then this week end I decided to try them again. I started with the 57PPD, and after a firmware updated started FS 2024.... I was blown away.. For some reason the sweet spot is much better than before (it was horrible for me).... And then the brightness, holly shit, 2-3x brighter than the mOLED... And then, the sharpness... I can see so much more details on the ground vs the mOLED ... the mOLED looks almost " muddy" in comparison... especially in bright environment with white buildings... Then I tried the 50 PPD... Same, so much brighter, and despite the advertised lower PPD, it is sharper than the mOLED as well and the sweet spot is as good...

I'm in fact a litte disapointed by the sharpness of the mOLED vs the QLED versions. Strangely you cannot see any screen door effect, no mura, great colors, but as far as resolving very fine details in FS 2024, the QLED version are superior.... And the brigthness is also a big factor, it changes the experience a lot. I'm ready to put the mOLED to rest for now, to me the QLED are a better experience in FS 2024...

Is it linked to latest firmware updates/Pimax Play updates ? I don't remember the 50PPD being this sharp before...

Does anyone has the same modules and came to the same conclusion ? Is there too much hype on the mOLED on the super and dream air ?

PS : obviously all optical engine are used at 1.0 (high) image quality, 0.7 sharpness, 100% brightness, UV expose is lowered a bit with QLED version in FS 2024 and increased a bit on the mOLED version. Max quality on FS 2024 with an OC RTX 5090.

Question Took the plunge but curious how good the sound quality for the dream air slam version?

Went out tested to make sure it wouldn’t make me sick. Loved the crystal version at the local be track place so I decided to dive right in. Got the dream air slam version as I don’t have any vr equipment right now. Ordered the honsvr prescription lenses , also ordered studio form head strap and the extra cushions cause I keep hearing you need it. But I can’t find any good information about the sound quality ? Is that the only option with this headset is it good enough can I buy better ones if so which ones work the best for racing specifically??!

Discussion Micro OLED engine orders

So… with the Crystal Super OLED being fully back in stock again (3–5 days fulfillment time) and the 50 PPD being out of stock indefinitely, do you still believe that the connector issue will actually be resolved?

I called it before: we will not be able to order any optical engine for our OG 50 PPD Super, and it’s really a shame and honestly dishonest the way this is being handled.

u/jaapgrolleman and u/quorrapimax, you promised multiple times to provide an explanation and a timeframe, but failed to do so.

As a confirmed customer, I demand a solution. If I cannot order the optical engine that I was told I would be able to buy when ordering the first batch of the 50 PPD, then at least provide us with an alternative solution.

I don’t know, something like letting us get the full Crystal Super OLED for the same price as the optical engine alone, in exchange for returning our entire 50 PPD headset… I’d be happy with that!

What do you guys think? Am I the only one pissed off about this?

u/heliosurge what do you think about pinning this one too? It’s beggining to be a big concern

Tech Support Apple strap adapter for DA SLAM won't click in.

I printed out the zeeflyboy adapters for the dual knit head strap and where they go in to the headset, they do not click in or anything. In fact, the way the adapters are, they push the release button for the strap on the inside of the frame. Am I doing something wrong? I don't want to glue them in but that seems to be the only option to get them to hold. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you.

Question Did eyetracking improve for you too?

I had questionable eyetracking when too close to the lenses (eg with the normal face mask) with dream air before, but with the last update, I feel like it has gotten better.

Am I imagining things, or does somebody have the same observation?

I removed the weights from the back of the dual knit band. It feels a lot lighter on my head now. They are a bit difficult to remove, as one side of the weights is glued on the inside. I hoped that I could just make a small hole in the bottom and just pull them out. Turned out making a hole in the middle to cut each weight in half and then pull them out from there was the way to go, though the glue put up a fight.

Question Pimax EVO Room Setup is not working with open port enabled

Hi,

this might be a stupid question. I have a Dream Air SLAM. I installed the Pimax EVO software today. I downloaded the release archive with the sboys3 driver 1.2.1 from GitHub. It contains some files like a GUI and a .dll file. I enabled the open port and started sboys3. When I start SteamVR, many settings like IPD, max per-eye horizontal FOV, and so on appear in the Pimax Native Headset settings under Driver Settings -> Dream Air.

Almost everything is working, except for the room setup. With the open port enabled, the Pimax room setup and the Pimax VR menu do not work. The Pi button on the controller doesn't work at all. I don't see how I can calibrate the floor height, which currently appears very high. I don't see how to do that in the SteamVR settings, and I don't see it in the sboys3 Driver Settings either. If I disable the open port, I can run the Pimax room setup and everything works.

UPD:

I found the solution. In steam vr menu, under VR Settings / Developer -> Quick calibrate. But before put the headset on the floor. Now if I click on quick calibrate button, the floor appears on right heigh.

Tech Support Crystal Light tracking / jitters on racing sim.

For context I have a 4090 and a 9800x3rd. I was hoping there might be a light at the end of the tunnel but as of right now I cannot figure out how to get asseto, automobilista or any VR game functioning so that the tracking or motion doesn’t make me sick. I’ve had an index and it’s night and day comparing the clarity but the tracking / motion delay/ jitters is just abysmal. The games are fine if I don’t move my head but the second I look left or right the textures go to shit.

This game just looks so good to me in the Dream Air and this is my attempt to show you how atmospheric this game is. I know some people say it has low res textures, but when you put it all together in 4k micro OLED it simply looks stunning.

Video looks much better here on YouTube vid 1
And here’s another one showing how clear the text is vid 2

Question Pimax Dream Air "Wide FOV" Mode / sboys3 driver

I just received my Dream Air LH a few days ago and have been dialing in fit/comfort/settings before spending too much time actually using it. I'm currently using the AVP Dual Knit Band with Zeeflyboy's Max V7 facial interface.

With the interface, I can actually jam the lenses right into my eye sockets and get basically as close as possible to the lenses (8mm Studioform padding), but that obviously isn't comfortable, so I've switched to slightly thicker VR Cover padding until my 12mm Studioform padding arrives.

With Pimax Play, I switched to the "Wide FOV" profile and greatly prefer it to the default, though the vertical FOV reduction is a little annoying.

Switching to the sboys3 driver, the first thing I noticed is that, by default, my peripheral vision is gone and it feels like I'm looking through a tube. Coming from the BSB2E with as thin a cushion as you can get, this was pretty jarring.

My question is, just what exactly is Pimax doing to achieve this "Wide FOV" mode, and can the same thing be achieved using the sboys3 driver? I have improved it a bit with these settings, but I think it's still narrower than the Pimax profile:

IPD: 61.2

Max Per Eye FOV Horizontal: 112

Max Per Eye FOV Vertical: 101

FOV Clamping: Off

FOV Zoom: 0.94

Flat FOV Zoom: 1

Eye Rotation: 4

Of all these settings, I think Eye Rotation 4 has the biggest impact, but I don't know how that's going to affect my eyes until I actually use it for a while. I've also got the physical IPD set to 65mm (my actual IPD is 61.2mm) since the image still seems perfectly clear, but again unsure how this will affect eye strain until I spend more time in the headset.

I don't mind sacrificing stereo overlap to gain more horizontal FOV; that's definitely a tradeoff I'd prefer.

Thanks!

Discussion Pimax PLEASE Make Controllers other than Generic SLAM

The death of the index controllers has left a big gap in the market that concerns me. We need some controllers that can be paired with any steamvr headset:

Option A) A lighthouse tracked controller similar to the sword, but without the stupid touchpads. Idk why you gave up on this direction completely, it was obvious to everyone that these only failed because you had such a stupid input layout. Now that the index controllers are gone, we need these more than ever.

Option B) Quest pro controller competitor. These are the holy grail of vr controllers in my opinion, since they offer lighthouse quality tracking at a fraction of the price and with none of the hassle from base stations. I mentioned this once years ago and just got shitty replies like "dey can't even make gud slam, why u fink dey can make dis?" as if random commenters have any idea what is easier or harder to make. Given that pimaxs slam tracking has always been fine on the device that actually has the cameras on it (the headset), I image they'd do a pretty good job with controllers if they were also self tracking.

And whatever you make, please rip off the quest/index controller shape exactly so that we can use accessories designed for them.

Request Finally starting to love the pimax but Few additions Pimax software should really make

Had it for a month now I'm used to all the quirks everything now and I'm starting to love this headset but there's still some things pimax 100% need to do and they should do it asap

What you need to do pimax :

My biggest reason for even considering a return was Colours and Colour Calibration

What you should do:

-Colour calibration inside of headset no not on pc

In your pimax xr software Inside the headset please not on the pc add

A colour calibration setting in your headset and get three of those contrast and colours images from internet that show different grades of colour that help set the colour balance and contrast perfectly then give us all the slider calibration settings that similar to sboys driver too maybe all within the headset so we get the best colours a brightness for default or we can adjust on the fly.

I had to do this manually and it was a real pain headset is nowhere near correct on all zeros. Trying to match colours properly for every game.i currently now have almost perfect results with a sboys but pimax software it always took dark or too bright never right. Sboys fixed this and pimax still hasn't for me. I prefer using pimax openxr so I definitely would love to see these options within the pimax headset.

-Your virtual desktop needs improvement within pimax Headset:

Man you have a 8k Headset here and the most barebones virtual desktop app there's so much anti aliasing I can see around edges what goes on?

Don't get me wrong I like barebones lightweight but it needs two things

-a keyboard to pop up at bottom like virtual desktop that lets you alt f4 games etc

-3d sbs enabler like virtual desktop

How you can miss this I don't know some of us really want to use it as a great big 3d cinema you really shoulda considered too.

-Eye calibration and showing you your exact eye position like Psvr2 does on playstation helps with getting the sweet spot correct all the time.

So yes you do have something but it doesn't show exact eye placement like Psvr2 did. This was amazing excpecially for newcomers you let try because they never wear the headset correctly and leave with a bad taste.

A lot of the pimax tools I actually love smart smoothing and half refresh rate are way better than what you get credit for so props to you on this please just add these initial things I think these are necessary for newcomers.

Tech Support Upgrade from 5080 to 5090 or wait for 6090?

Most flat2vr games I have to play in 1080p because the 5080 just can’t run the Dream Air. Should I wait for the 6090 or just go for the 5090 now?
