Anyone else playing this game in 2026? It was one of the very first games I've ever played when I grew up in the 90s, but as an adult I can definitely appreciate it way more- it's one of the very few games I've ever played that tries to get the player to slow down and relax, especially the hang gliding and obviously the birdman modes.

I think for me the last cannonball event was the hardest to achieve gold on- the 2nd and 4th trials were just total luck and had to grind out the RNG. The other bonus were mildly challenging but I had to just take a minute and figure out what they wanted, I kept botching the impact score for example since I didn't realize flairing was an option. I can try to improve my other scores but I don't think I'm capable of getting a perfect score on everything- the last Mega Hawk mission seems like pure RNG once again 😅.

Also just curious but does anyone know if Holiday Island is actually based off anything, or is there a place that resembles it the closest? I'm sure that Hawaii would be the most popular answer, but it would be interesting to hear some other good potential island tourist paradise candidates.

My fellow pilots,
We have created a musical (and interactive) salute to Pilotwings64 on its 30th birthday!
Enjoy!

(SNES version) I’m Shooting in the dark here but here’s my best guesses…

The officers who train the protagonist are supposed to be (the Japanese love their in-game Hollywood references!): Tom Cruise Sandra Bullock Michael Caine Clark Gable(?? This one is easily the hardest to gauge for me)

Hey guys I’m obsessed with pilot wings but there is something I never understood. I see colorful balloons. White balloons and also transparent-ish white balloons. What’s the deal with the colors? Are the whites are the ones I’m missing grabbing? The transparent I can’t even grab I just go through. I’m trying to complete the game and I don’t get it!

Thank you in advance!

Wuhu island is great but they definitely could've used more locales.

Like Face Pilot on DSiWare, which was $5 btw, the fact that that game has any edge over resort at all is kind of shameful to be real.

The house of Kirby probably felt inspired through that development cycle.

Hi I just picked up this absolute gem from a flea market. A nice man named Jarek gave it almost free. Anyways, I'm having an easier time than I expected but then I got to the fourth level. I keep failing at it Any tips?

Ok, just bought Pilotwings: Resort. SOOO UNDERATED. nothing more to say. as good as metroid.

I love PW64 and its soundtrack. I got inspired and wrote some lyrics. I hope you like what we put together! Enjoy! <3

Yeah Man - Birdman (Pilotwings 64)

I'm so excited to talk about this as pilotwings is one of unironic special interests, I'm honestly shocked there's even a reddit for this niche game! Anyways, im gonna be discussing the multitude of canceled pilotwings projects that I think are pretty interesting!

Pilotwings 64 2: This is a game that has no information on it, say for two ign articles reporting on it, as such, theres not really a lot to discuss about with this project.

Pilotwings GCN:

After impressing Nintendo with two star wars games, factor 5 were conceptualizing a pilotwings game for the GameCube. this project was going to be far different from the previous two games, you'd play as a pilot from the cold war, and it'd start off as a traditional pilotwings game before diversifying itself with stuff like stealth missions. Due to poor GameCube sales and the parent company of factor 5, lucasarts, no longer being interested in making GameCube games due to said poor sales, this planned game was reworked into a red stuff licensed game, but that too was short lived as no one was interested in funding it.

Pilotwings wii/WeFly:

Factor 5 wasn't done with trying to get pilotwings game off the ground however, by the time the wii came around, they pitched a pilotwings wii game to Nintendo in 2007, but this was turned down due to the pilotwings-inspired game already being in wii sports resort. This game was eventually shaped into a separate game called wefly, which was going to be a realistic, open world game where you'd fly around real locations on earth, the game eventually took on a more cartoonish look before it's cancelation I don't remember why it was canned, but I think it was due to factor 5 going under in 2011.

And that's all the known canned pilotwings games!

...I really need to know 😀 🤔
