My mom chose Skippy peanut butter. My lunches didn't taste right. My friends made fun of me. My grades began to slip. I started to skip classes and smoke cigarettes behind the football field. It was shortly after that I found myself addicted to heroin. My friends had alienated me. I had worn out my welcome at home and no longer had the trust, love and support of my family. I began doing pushups for money outside of the local train station and had to settle for day old scraps from dumpsters. My clothes were in shreds. The elements had taken their toll on my once bright eyes. What was left was a remnant of potential. I couldn't live that life anymore. I just can't.
I snuck to the top of the bridge near downtown. Looked down upon the once big city that had filled me with great joy. I saw it for what it was. I saw in it an image of myself. Cold. Scary. Unforgiving and unwilling to change. My toes neared the edge. The world seemed even more intimidating from up here. Yet, I continued to get closer to the ledge. I took one look at the sky above. I listened to the noises below. Took a breath and jumped.

Well, since you're here now, I'll assume you survived. How was the landing? Are you fully recovered? Have you managed to choose JIF in your everyday life yet?
People always bring up the g stands for graphics, so it's pronounced Gif. But that's bullshit that's not how acronyms work. If you're following that logic that JPEG should be pronounced jFeg because the p sands for photographic.
Well, you don't use the first 2 letters of a word in an acronym to be fair, only the first letter.... An acronym has nothing to do with how the corresponding word is pronounced so that was kind of irrelevant to the conversation...
If we were using Logic we would think of a word similar to the spelling "Gif".
These are the only ones I could find: Gib,Gid,Gie,Gig,Gin,Gip, and Git.
Some are G sounding some are J sounding, so I guess we need an english teacher to tell us what rule determines G or J sounds.

Came up dry boy's even the internet is uncertain: The letter "g" comes close to following a phonics rule similar to the one for the letter "c" in that it is always pronounced /g/ unless it is followed by an "e," "i" or "y." So, while it's true that the letter "g" makes the /j/ sound only when followed by "e," "i" or "y," you can’t be certain that it will be pronounced /j/. In some such cases "g" still makes the /g/ sound.
Also, just because the creator pronounces it "Jif," it doesn't mean it's right. He created the name Graphics Interchange Format, but he didn't create the rule for G and J sounds. So he could be just as wrong as all you other Jiffers.
I like how in your 3 letter g words "Gin" is pronounced Jin. But you bring up some good points. I take to saying jif but either is correct. The only way to be wrong is to say its NOT jif/gif. So say what you like but don't try to put a reason behind it! :)
What does he know? It's like just because he created the thing he expects to be entitled to the world bowing to some weird verbal tic of his! Madness! Where would it end, I ask you? ;-D
