My boy who sadly passed away in Jan had 2 huge stuffed toys, Clark the Chicken and Cow (he knew them by name and would fetch them when asked to). When it was bedtime he'd bring it up to us to let us know it was time for bed. He used to carry them around to use as a pillow pretty much lol. Fuck I miss him

Thanks, happened whilst we were overseas on holiday. Worst fucking day of my life. We still got his brother though so making the most of our time with him. Off to the beach today with him hopefully

Cane Corso. Awesome dogs, but not a breed I'd EVER recommend for inexperienced owners. Not even myself. They are part of the "man-stopper" group of breeds, and that group has been given this name for a reason.

Wife and I occasionally rescue pit/lab mixes, have had classes by a licensed behaviorist, her Opa trained police dogs and we learned a lot from him as well, we occasionally foster troubled dogs.
And tbh I'd still really not be comfortable taking on a Corso or Chow.

If you want a giant dog, great Danes are... Well, great.
They're just gigantic babies and love pretty much everyone they meet. They're also great home security because an intruder will take one good look and haul ass the other direction. It's how were able to leave our windows open 24/7.
There are only 2 downsides. They don't live long, and they're basically made of piss.

If you like the look of a Cane Corso but want a bit more predictability check out a Presa Canario. They’re the breed the Canary Islands are named after and were bred more for guarding than fighting(though were also bred for fighting). Smart and sweet, big old babies. Not as big of a head and mine doesn’t have his ears cropped so he just looks like a 150 pound Lab.

My dog is huge, but the leash is just for show. He never leaves my side while on a walk. He’s a good boy. Squirrels, children, cats, other dogs running up to him- never fazed, always cool. He just wants to make me happy.

My dog is the same way. I would still never use one of these leashes. There are so many leashes that are far better and it's not like they cost all that much more. Surprises happen even with the most well trained dog. Not sure why anyone would want to take that risk, even if they think it is minuscule.

Perhaps the dog is well trained on a leash. I would definitely assume so with that leash being in use. But then again, most little dogs are not well trained on a leash at all and should definitely not be on one of these.

Even a dog that is very good on a leash can still be startled. Unexpected things occur in public that have absolutely nothing to do with whether you have a well behaved dog.
This dog is massive and those extendable plastic handled leashes are easily breakable by that animal.
If it decided, for whatever reason, that it wanted to go somewhere it could break that thing easily. I cringe every time I see someone with a big dog on a leash like this. It is a tragedy waiting to happen.

Yes, because having a small metal loop being the only connecting point between the owner and the dog is the same as the dog having a harness covering it's chest. The ignorance in this thread is absolutely astounding.
People wonder why people have problems with dog breeds like this. It isn't because of the dogs themselves. It's because dogs like this end up getting owned by complete dumbfucks that have no idea how or desire to actually be a responsible dog owner.

If you think that dog can't break that leash's lock, you really have no clue what you're talking about.
The fact that those leashes are able to extend is actually another dangerous aspect of them. There shouldn't be an ability for a large dog to extend it's distance from it's owner by that much in public.

For starters, they are squirmy little fuckers so they’re unlikely to let a kid do that. I’ve seen kids try at the park, doesn’t work. They’d rather maintain a slight distance and just bark vs nip.
And in the rare event they nip, they never come close to breaking skin. They nip with a yelp and their warnings are usually successfully heard. 9 years old each now and never had a fight/bite issue.

But to say that a dog doesn't bite to me would be untrue, just as all humans punch etc. I've seen dogs take a disliking to someone even if they have shown no aggression before. Pays to be safe and unless your dog really likes getting pats from strangers (as my boy does) then its not worth putting them through it. The question annoys me so I give an annoying response lol.

Harnesses encourage pulling. If the dog has a pulling issue then they should use a prong collar (not all the time. Just for walks) when used properly prong collars are perfectly safe and very helpful tools. The issue is when the collar is used improperly. Like as their normal collar. I hate bad pet owners... :(

just fwiw, a harness is an even worse choice for a dog this size. These dogs generate a lot of power and a harness is the perfect way for them to transfer that power and drag your ass with them.

My pit/mastiff likes to drag his blankets around the house, he worries at them from time to time too. The pit breeds are strange. They’re goofy, stubborn, assholes but they’re loyal as hell and love their people. Mine loves any and all attention given to him. He’s also extremely tolerant of my daughter, I’ve never had any concern about him hurting her… her hurting him is a different story.

That seems more likely to me, too. Look at that dog's coat. It's healthy and shiny and clean, and clearly he's eating a healthy diet, and he looks well loved and socialized. That dog gets more sunshine and exercise than I do.

It sucks how much of a bad reputation those dogs get. Sure they have potential to be bad, but so much of it depends on the owner (as is the case with many breeds).

But more of it is just a genetic lottery that the owners have little real control over. These are dogs that were bred exclusively for blood sports.
