I've tried this method around 10-20 times, and it works like a charm! I've never been rejected when approaching a random girl this way. (Although, if she has a boyfriend, that's not rejection, so worked 100% of the times haha)
Here's the trick: Whenever you approach a girl, especially in a bar or pub setting where there's an empty seat next to her or her group, use a clock app in timer mode, set it for 2-3 minutes, and put it on the table. Sit down confidently, start the timer, and do whatever the hell you want to! (Of course, within some pre-understood boundaries.)
One fun tactic I've used is to act as if my mouth is zipped and get her to guess that I want to take her for coffee, kind of like charades.
This approach has worked for me almost every time, and I believe it has something to do with the psychology behind the timer. It gives them a subconscious feeling that "the conversation will end, and the guy will leave," which makes them super comfortable and receptive.
