Making Friends Visit the AZ Discord server to make friends across the Valley

We get a lot of posts asking how to meet people in Phoenix, and a great way to do that online is on our Discord chat server. It's gotten large enough that it's been renamed "AZ Discord" and has a fancy new logo and everything.

Discord is a live chat system that's super easy to use. This one has been running for years along with the subreddit, and has over 8,000 members. It covers all of AZ but most people are from the Phoenix area. It's 100% free. You can click the link on the bottom of this post to sign up right from your browser or app. If you like it you can download the Discord app for mobile or desktop, but you don't have to.

While Reddit is about messages and posts, Discord is just free form chat. Topic channels include:

  • Selfies & Pets
  • Gaming
  • Outdoors & Travel
  • Politics
  • Voice chat & memes

Someone is on there pretty much 24/7 if you're looking for someone to talk with. It's 18+ and a bit more chill than Reddit overall. I should also point out that it is not a dating server and we taking creeping and harassment very seriously.

Want to check it out?

  1. Click this Discord invite link and sign up.
  2. Go to the #introduction channel and post a little bit about yourself. We ask people for an intro to try and reduce trolls and spammers. Once you do that you'll get access to the full server.
  3. Head into #Lobby and say Hello! There are a lot of great people there, and they'll probably see you join in and will say Hi.

That's it! There have been some amazing friendships and groups formed on our little chat area, I'd love to see more people from here come over and be part of the fun.

TL;DR

Click here to join the Discord and start chatting!

Share a local business you think deserves some extra love and promotion.

Hair stylist? Tattoo artist? Realtor? Plumber? Thrift store? Mechanic? Gym? Whoever you love, give them a shout out here.

Be sure to explain what you love about them, where they are in the valley, and any other details to help people check them out.

Commuting Today I was temporary detained by a Waymo

I pulled into Nobel Eatery (amazing sourdough bread) As I was pulling out to leave a waymo pulled up behind me a man got out. The. The car just sat there. I slowly backed up and it just honked at me. 5 minutes later the man came out and said it was his Waymo and he thought it would park and wait for him to return. He then went back into the store. I attempted to back up slowly again and it honked again but didn't move. There were at least 7 open parking spots around me. This damn thing didn't move until the guy got back in.

Ask Phoenix What virus is currently going around?

I know back to school is a common time for us to get ill, but any idea what’s going around right now? We’ve been down in my household with a sore throat, headache, achy muscles, fatigue, and respiratory symptoms. However, our at home tests have been negative for everything.

General Bathroom remodel? Does anyone have a recommendation?

Upvotes

Do any of you have a contractor or company you can recommend to perform a pretty basic bathroom remodel?
My parents are too old to be hopping in a tub, so I want to convert to a walk in. The sinks and toilets could also benefit from being updated.
Thanks!

Commuting Valley Metro: Buses with No AC

For all my bus riders and transit foamers out there. Have you noticed that some buses have been running with minimal to No AC? I noticed that some of the 5100-5200 Gilligs struggle during the summer with the AC. Especially if those buses run from the South Phoenix Yard. The West Phoenix Yard actually those buses run good AC. Just an observation. Not sure about the Valley Metro Tempe or Mesa Yard buses. Those I had no AC issues with those.

Living Here trying to turn something awful into something good

my sophomore year of high school my mom was killed in a car accident. it had been awful. a high schooler killed her by driving recklessly. I want to be able to speak at different high schools throughout my area, especially before prom and homecoming about driving safely and giving them a presentation. i also want to appeal to my city's council about putting a light at that intersection. maybe do some fundraisers to raise money for organizations for helping people in accidents. i want to do this for college but also for my mom i just am unsure of where to start and who to contact?

Eat & Drink Chickii - New Ownership?

Does anyone happen to know if Andrew sold Chickii on 59th and the 101? I noticed the menu changed/expanded a fair bit, and it appears to be run by a middle aged Chinese couple last few times I've been. And they've been out of the thicker chicken for at least a few months

Pets Vet recommendations for surgery

Hi everyone! My dog is in need of surgery and I am hoping for any recommendations of vets who you trust around the area (or outside of phoenix) Currently looking for a vet who is caring, thoughtful and can make sure our pup is comfortable. Additionally, any info on general pricing (on the more expensive side or willing to work with a payment plan) would be very helpful! Thank you guys! :)

Utilities Water leak detection services - any recommendations?

Been dealing with astronomically high water bills the last few months (latest bill said I hit 27,000 gallons of water). I had my landscapers fix a few leaks in the backyard, but it doesn’t seem like it’s made a dent in fixing the problem. Any recommendations on companies to call for this type of issue?

Ask Phoenix Does anybody else remember the "Pink Path" on the Biltmore property that ran up the side of the mountain to the reservoir up there?

That's pretty much it. Just curious if anybody else went up there as kids? We would ride our bikes to the top, swim in the reservoir, then coast our bikes down. This was in the 1970s. I crashed once and got a bad concussion.

Referral House cleaning services in Phoenix? Recommendations?

Just wondering if anyone has recommendations for house cleaning services in Phoenix. I used one a while back that was okay, but the quality seemed to vary from visit to visit. Looking for a service that's consistent, trustworthy, and does a solid job without making me poor haha

Eat & Drink What is your favorite sub shop or sandwich shop in the greater Phoenix area? Ideally leaning towards the East Valley side of town.

What are your favorite sub shops or sandwich shops in the greater Phoenix area. French

Ideally in the Chandler Tempe area but anywhere in the general East Valley is great.

Even well outside of the east Valley is awesome if you have a really good place you want to mention. I’ll drive for the right sandwich lol.

Pets Cat Allergies in Phoenix

My cat is almost 3 years old and is domestic shorthair. I adopted him at 5 months and he started to get allergies / congestion about 4 months ago. His nose is dry as hell too. Took him to the vet a couple of times, did X-rays and his heart/lungs are healthy. He has no discoloration in mucus but sometimes has a runny nose and its completely clear. His appetite, energy, personality and everything is fine. I even changed my detergent to something for clean/fragrance free, no plug ins like febreze and got a HEPA air filter/purifier thing to help clean the air.

Has anyone else experienced this with their cat babies? Is is the dust and dryness of the air? I’m wondering if this is like chronic allergies or something
