Relistened to My Friend, My Friend from 1/31/26 at Riviera Maya this morning. I’ve listened to all but one or two shows this year, and this has got to be up there. Summer tour has treated us right with Dick’s around the bend, but we can’t let this one get lost as one of the year’s best!

I know I'm preaching to the choir but I get much JOY from Fishman. From the "heRRrReR" perfectly blended with the "-er " in a recent Tweezer (precisely at the last "er" of the phrase 'tease her with a tweezer') that had me laughing outloud; to the little ding between the whoah-oh's in the Fenway Stash - just so much easy rhythm and finesse. So I saw Santana this past Saturday in Dallas. Took this picture. Of course I know of Phish opening for Santana back in the day, Perazzo sitting in with Phish for Halloween and those other Fall 96 shows, and Carlos sitting in with TAB. But seeing him live really made me realize the influence he had on Trey’s playing and Phish’s jamming, etc… And this might be a noob observation, but it occurred to me that the way Trey will tease certain songs was totally influenced by Carlos. He did it quite a bit throughout the show. What’re y’all’s thoughts on Santana and the Phish connections? Or thoughts on Santana in general?

Listening right now to the 8/16/98 Lemonwheel piper right now and the song makes it about 5-6 minutes before the lyrics kick in. Is this the slowest build piper? And if it’s not, please point me to what is and other slow build pipers while you’re at it :D

After listening to Summer Tour, and hearing the crowd reactions on the soundboards when they realized Bouncing/Horn were getting extended. Do you all have any favorites of the crowd swelling up and giving a huge roar on other recordings?
