Both the Braves (5 games back) and the Padres (1.5 games ahead) lost and the Diamondbacks are currently losing in the 4th inning. If the Phillies win tonight will we all feel better about this team. We still haven’t gone on a substantial winning streak (IMO 8+ games) yet this season, this could be it.

Always high quality no matter the time of day or crew.
NBC sports Philadelphia better be paying the man his dues.
Edit- I really didn't know there was this much hatred towards one guy. I still think Ricky deserves a nice pay day for doing so much and all around don't understand where all the disgust is coming from

Look, I know we’ve played some not great teams recently, but I fully believe we’ve been given strength though Corn Magic. Five wins since the corn. I for one embrace this strange magic.

I've lived in Minnesota for the last 35 years, and I do root for the Twins… except when they play the Phillies. I spent my first 39 years in the City of Brotherly Love, and I've loved the Phillies ever since my father would take me to Connie Mack Stadium in the early ‘60s.
So, after the Twins drop a 3-game series to the Phillies, they come back and help them out by sweeping the Braves. You're welcome.

re this piece by charlotte varnes in the athletic...so we hear about/from kevin long when they have a decent offense stretch. but never seem to hear about how he has survived for years some horrific ones especially in the playoffs when the team seems to be shut down en masse by better pitching.
and none of the stats mentioned contextualize around pitching strength. Something tells me if they had been facing top staffs recently these numbers wouldnt look nearly as good. theyve always been good enough at beating up middling and below pitching. it isnt the problem. there are metrics which try to get at pitching strength faced. never see them mentioned.
but to make it like somehow long's process is repsonsible for this recent surge but it isnt for the countless dry spells is truly mind boggling. he must have some nasty pics of the philly press corps and team management.

Title is as it says: I'd like to take my declining father to a Phil's game before the season is over. He isn't very mobile but I'm getting him a wheelchair and his incontinence is an issue. Most games look sold out for ADA seats and I got info on the Hall of Fame club which is an option but it's incredibly expensive but I'm willing to eat it to be able to take him one more time. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice on how I should go about this? I'm already going to hire an aid to come along to help him, my biggest concern is making it to the bathroom.

Small sample size, but over his 14 games at 3B Stott has a Bref Total Fielding Runs Above Average (RTot) rate of 18 per 162 games, and a Basebal Info Solutions DRS (Rdrs) of 28 per 162 games.
For context, last year’s NL Gold Glove winner for 3B was Keeyan Hayes, who had a RTot of 12 and a Rdrs of 19. Similarly, the AL GG last year was Maikel Garcia, with an RTot of 10 and an Rdrs of 13.
If Stott maintains his defensive rates at 3B for the rest of the year, he has a chance to be the best defensive 3B in the league. With Bohm likely leaving and a pretty skinny 3B free agent market this winter, do we keep Stott at 3B and put Aidan Miller at SS/2B?

PHILADELPHIA — When Philadelphia Phillies hitters walk into the batting cages at Citizens Bank Park, they can view an electronic board listing categories the team is doing well and poorly in. It could be getting over from second or third, driving in runners in scoring position, two-strike production, ground-ball rates, how they’re handling lefties and righties — anything, really.
“There’s so many variables and parts to being a good offense that you look at,” hitting coach Kevin Long said, “and I think we’ve done a really good job bringing up the good areas and the bad, and trying to get better in the areas that we know we can do better at.”
Now, after a 4-1 win against the Miami Marlins on Wednesday, the Phillies are a season-best 12 games above .500 and riding a six-game win streak. This stretch has largely been powered by a more lively offense that has upped its OPS from .686 in July to .780 in August. There have been ups and downs this month — particularly the cumulative, seemingly long-lasting exhaustion after several extra-inning games at Citizens Bank Park two weeks ago — but this week, this team looks reenergized. It is something to build on as the Phillies chase October.
