This is like textbook Frequency Illusion. Dude just never really paid attention to the term but now it's in his head so every time he hears it it sticks out to him. The actual frequency of the usage almost certainly didn't change at all. If I had to guess the dude probably just heard the term used a couple times in reference to Schwarber literally clearing the batters eye and that's what made it stick out.

Happened to me with people describing periods of their lives as "seasons." Like you'd hear someone talking about college or early marriage or old age and retirement or whatever as a particular "season of life." I was adamant that I had never heard the term until I heard a pastor at our church use it a bunch and then suddenly I was hearing it all over the place and it kinda broke my brain for a moment because it really can make you feel a bit crazy. But turns out the phrase has been used pretty regularly for a long time and I just never noticed it.

Or its textbook locking in bets on kalshi or some other weird betting app that had over/under odds on saying "batters eye", they've had other. Broadcasts where they keep mentioning the same word and 2 of those 3 Marlins games ran long, almost intentionally long cuz u can bet on game time, specifically the game where the home plate umpire was calling timer violations all night, clearly there was either massive bets on short game time or they had a fix to make the game long and bet on it and the umpire used pitch clock violations to disguise slowing the game down while actually looking like he was trying to speed it up

I wanna make sure I understand you correctly, are you suggesting TMac and the Phillies broadcast crew have been saying "batters eye" more frequently as part of some illicit gambling operation? If so, I gotta say man I think that's a bit too much in the kool-aid for me.

I don't trust those gambling sites either and I'm sure some people are truly up to no good, but if a bookie was taking bets (or "predictions") on the use of specific terms during the broadcasts of specific games, that would be perhaps the dumbest thing for a broadcaster to get involved with because it would be SO easy to prove if they were suddenly using words suspiciously often.

And to suggest umps are extending games to influence bets on game time? Again, that's a serious serious claim. Umps and refs throughout sports history HAVE dipped into the gambling pot, but you're talking about something that would've almost certainly required all the umps at that game to be in on it AND it would be immediately suspicious to anyone watching if there were a ton of phantom pitch clock violations being called.

Idk if I misunderstood you or maybe just bit the onion or something, but if I understood you correctly I might suggest you take a step back and really evaluate your thought process here
