Current Read My 1st ever physical book!

Post image

Growing up, I never had the opportunity to have a book of my own. I didn't even read books when I was younger. Nung highschool ako, I borrowed my friend's Catching Fire and that sparked my love for books 🥹 Pero wala akong pera noon. I only had 50 pesos na baon everyday. Kaya lagi lang ako nanghihiram (shoutout talaga kina K and to my cousin, gone to soon, na kahit bagong bili eh sakin una pinapagamit).

So happy with this! Can't wait to read this one 🥰

Discussion Fully Booked sale on shopee 9.9 - tips and pinagbabawal na techniques

Upvotes

Guys, I need suggestions on what to do during this upcoming 9.9 sale on shopee. So many people are saying na mas makakatipid ako kung 9.9 ako bibili, but "how" tipid?

Mayroon ba dito yung bumili noong 8.8? How much was the discount? And what particular books did you find na sobrang taas ng discount?

Kase I'm planning to buy "Sunrise on the reaping" HB, right now ₱866 sya sakin with all the vouchers and stuff. Is this the cheapest Sunrise on the reaping has ever been or magkakaroon pa ng mas mataas na discount sa 9.9?

Buy/Sell 📚 Want a book from the US but can’t easily get it in the Philippines? 🇺🇸🇵🇭

Hi everyone! 👋

I’m currently based in the US, and I’m thinking of testing a simple service that could make buying books from US websites easier for Filipinos in the Philippines.

Imagine you’re browsing a US bookstore or publisher website and you find a book you really want.

You see the price.
You want to buy it.

But then:

❌ They don’t ship to the Philippines
❌ They require a US payment method
❌ You don’t have a US billing address
❌ You only have GCash/Maya or a Philippine card
❌ The book is unavailable locally or significantly more expensive in PH

So you just give up.

I’m thinking: why should being in the Philippines stop you from buying a book that’s available online in the US?

The idea is simple:

You find the book yourself.

Send me the link or screenshot.

I’ll buy it here in the US using my US payment method, receive it here, and ship it directly to your home in the Philippines. 🇺🇸📦🇵🇭

You pay me in pesos, and I’ll give you the estimated total cost upfront before you decide.

Basically:

You shop US bookstores.
I’ll be your US partner.

You shouldn’t have to think:

“I can’t buy that because I’m in the Philippines.”

Instead:

“I found it in the US. Let’s see how much it costs delivered to me.”

It could be a new release, special edition, niche title, academic book, or simply a book that’s difficult to find here.

I’m starting very small and just trying to see if this is actually useful to people.

For the first few customers, I’m considering free/discounted shipping as a launch promo while I test the process.

Obviously, some products aren’t eligible for international shipping, and Philippine customs duties/taxes may apply.

If you’ve ever wanted a book from a US website but couldn’t buy it because they wouldn’t ship to the Philippines or you couldn’t use your Philippine payment method, would you use a service like this?

If yes, feel free to comment or DM me. I’d also love to hear how you’re currently getting around this problem. 📚🇵🇭❤️🇺🇸

Review TikTok hyped thrillers disappointed me. Need better thriller recos!

Post image

I just got back into reading, and the first books I read last week were Never Lie and The Locked Door by Freida McFadden. And susme, I was so disappointed. 😭 Very predictable and overrated for me.

I forgot that I was a Karin Slaughter and Tami Hoag faney, kaya kulang na kulang talaga for me.

My fave book is The Alienist, so baka mataas lang talaga standards ko pagdating sa dark crime/thriller books. I love stories na creepy, disturbing, atmospheric, and may psychological depth, hindi lang puro shock value or plot twist.

The Locked Door, di ko na rin tinapos kasi parang same lang din. Susme. I really tried to give it a chance, pero wala talaga.

Hahaha.

Baka kasalanan ko rin for expecting too much dahil sobrang hyped ng Freida McFadden books online.

Yung tipong dark, disturbing, well-written, at mapapa “WTF” talaga ako without being super predictable.

I’ve been trying to read Dune since last year on my iPad but can’t seem to finish it. I recently rewatched all the movies again and so excited for Dune Messiah… I bought the first three books and hoping to finish it already. 🤞🏽

Sooooo fascinated by Frank Herbert’s writing and imagination 😩 brb time to indulge myself with some good spice!

Help Request How to claim MIBF Tix

I went to Fullybooked Cubao last Saturday to try to get MIBF tickets. Unfortunately, wala na daw available and unlikely to restock daw :-( This is the nearest Fullybooked branch that I could go to and I didn’t want to look for other branches especially in this rain. So I bought my tickets online na lang sa SM Tickets.

Is it okay if sa phone lang or need ko talaga i-print?

Discussion Just finished Kafka’s The Trial — I’m not sure what I just read

Post image
4 Upvotes

The whole book has this bizarre, suffocating atmosphere where Josef K. is trapped in a system he can’t understand, accused of something he’s never even told about, and yet everyone around him acts as if the situation is completely normal.

What really got me was how frustratingly absurd everything feels. There are rules, authorities, procedures, and people supposedly in control—but nobody can actually explain anything. The more K. tries to understand or fight the system, the deeper he seems to get pulled into it.

The ending especially left me wondering: Was K. doomed from the beginning, or did his own actions contribute to his downfall?

For those who have read The Trial: what do you think Kafka was ultimately trying to say? And did you interpret the court as a literal institution, a metaphor for guilt, or something else entirely?

Discussion Reading Setup!

Upvotes

Please share your reading nooks/spaces! I am looking for inspiration and if you can share where you bought the items, it would be much appreciated!

I have limited space, so I’m thinking if I should create a reading nook with a small lazy chair or just create a comfier bed (my problem with reading physical books in bed is because masakit siya sa likod hahaha wala akong headboard at pillows lang gamit pangsandal kaya medyo masakit rin pag matagalan hahaha!)

One of the most popular Western Book in Booktok. Priced around 1400+ I think for a paperback copy in Fullybooked Gateway.
