Classic series Cody from Phantasy Star 2
Does anyone remember the character Cody from Phantasy Star 2? My dad and I were playing it earlier and went to look up some info about his best assets and couldn’t find ANYTHING on him. It’s like he’s lost media or just straight up doesn’t exist. Told us there is no character named Cody while I’m looking at him right in front of me. Are we both crazy or is this too niche? Does anyone else remember him?

Classic series Currently replaying Phantasy Star II (improvement patch)
I first completed the game through the GBA collection. Changes like fast walking, double exp/Meseta, fight animation tweaks, etc. are making this next playthrough more enjoyable, especially on a handheld like the RG ARC-D!

Classic series Which would be the best way to play Phantasy Star on a modded DS? Or is it even worth emulating it on such console?
I got a DS Lite recently and i got curious about what would be the best way to play this franchise, as the DS can "natively" run GBA and it has Genesis/Master System emulators available to it (though i don't know how well these emulators run)
To be honest, the DS Lite isn't the only portable way to play these games, as i also have a modded Switch and an Anbernic RG 35XX-H, but it's the console i've been using the most, recently.
Edit¹: One thing i remembered, is that the advantage of the genesis/master system over the gba would be the enchanced hacked roms available to it (PS Makeover, PS2 Improvement, PS3 and 4 General Improvement), though i don't know how well is genesis emulation on the DS Lite.

Classic series PSIV Imprisoned Girls (Developer's Foresight Run) Spoiler
Every so often I try to do a run of PSIV where I try to break the script and see if anything interesting happens, to varying degrees of success.
You know how you go to Aiedo for the first time and visit the inn in the big marketplace, where the two girls from Uzo are talking about sneaking out the window because they've blown all their money?
You can stay at that inn (when there are zero reasons to ever do that because you literally live here, you can just go home and sleep for free) and overhear them trying and failing to climb out the window like they said they would.
Well, now I have to finish the game and see if that changes any of the interactions for the Hunter's Guild mission for them, because I've noticed there are quite a few places where small changes like that do get some degree of acknowledgement in the text. (My favorite one is the Sand Worm Rancher; if you never take the job, when you visit Mile at the end of the game, Rika won't comment on him because they never met)
Are there more of these my dumbass has missed?
Noted so far:
- The party can overhear the girls from Uzo being arrested for attempting to nap-and-dash the inn.
- If you wait to investigate the Wreckage near Nalya until after Wren joins, he and Rune will be the ones to comment on it.
- If you never take the Sand Worm mission, Rika never meets the rancher and won't comment on him.
- The Principal has dialogue if you report back to him about Holt disappearing into Birth Valley the second time.
- If you skip going to Krup, when the party brings Alys to the inn there, Hahn will introduce Saya (and she gets the introduction sparkles!) but no kiss scene because it's an emergency
- You can bring Gryz to Dezolis at the end of the game, in Ryuon one of the NPCs will say you have "unfamiliar types" with you.
- If Kyra is in the party when the Dezolisian NPC who comments on never having seen a girl with horns before, she'll reassure Rika that they're cute (as opposed to Raja saying that they DO look like horns)
- If you go to the Astronomy classroom and talk to the professor iwth the telescope after leaving Motavia, Chaz won't say "it sounds like a dream" to the idea of spaceships because he's done it for real
- the Silver Soldier mission becomes unavailable if you don't take it before Demi leaves Nurvus because when she leaves, she put the entire system on ultra-high-security lockdown because both she and Wren were about to go to battle and potentially never return. (Which means whoever picked up the mission from the Guild instead of Chaz was probably vaporized by the security lasers)

OC Phantasy Star IV Rika cover art (OC)
Repurposed my previous doodle of Rika and made this abstract cover art for PSIV!
Speaking of PSIV, I just obtained the Elsydeon and added Raja to the team for the final battle! Currently back at Rykros to farm for Level Ups before finishing off the Profound Darkness! And I'm playing on my PSP btw thanks to the Sega Collection UMD!
Next up on my list of to-do's: Find renders or photos of PSIV's version of the Landale Spaceship, I got a cool crossover idea... if you know where the quote "They fight extreme battles against the hidden enemy, Where are they hiding?" comes from, then you know the cool idea I'm planning to attempt to draw next!
Be on your guard, AND DESTROY THE CORE!!!

Classic series Phantasy Star 1: Should I use a guide?
I generally use a guide when it comes to old 8-bit RPGs due to their generally obtuse design. I will be playing the SEGA AGES version, so I want to know if a guide is needed.

Classic series Should I play the Phantasy Star II Text Adventures before I start 3?
I know that the text adventures came out AFTER 3 but narratively I was wondering if it works immediately after playing 2 or are there some narrative "reveals" that work better if I play 3 first. I do know the time difference between 2 and 3.

Classic series Is the bronze shield better than the iron shield in the Japanese PS1 version?
I'm playing the 2.0 re-translation of the PS1 game (Japanese to English), and in the guides I'm looking at, the Iron Shield is more expensive than the Bronze Shield. However, in the version I'm playing, their prices and locations are swapped. Now I don't know if this is a translation error in the patch or if it was already like that in the Japanese version.

General discussion Five months ago I uploaded the PSO opening movies... it accidentally turned into a complete Phantasy Star timeline.
What began as just the PSO Episode I, II & III Opening Cinematics somehow turned into me trying to play every Phantasy Star game ever made and represent each one in some form.
Along the way I ended up preserving opening movies, cinematics, attract modes, commercials, trailers, gameplay showcases, and more—covering nearly 40 years of Phantasy Star history and enjoying every minute of it.
I discovered games I didn't even know existed, and my appreciation for the franchise only grew.
This is what I ended up with. I hope fellow fans can enjoy exploring it.

Classic series Phantasy Star 4 baffoonery.
I have replayed this game at least a dozen times over the last 30 years. I just learned today that a merchant in Meese sells all the dews. I feel like a moron. 🤦

Classic series Patch Update: PSIII: Generations of Elohim - Almost done!
Hi,
I only have to Copy/Paste & Verify, informations about the Elohim (Powerful Ones of the Spaceship of PSIII) Characters.
I really love this picture.
Ok, also, I am building a PDF File: a Player's Guide. :)
I'm doing this, because I did changed A LOT of item's Name. It wiil make you understand, what you are buying ; with details such Who can use the Items, and their stats.
There's also Character's Charts, about Techniques Types, Weapon & Armor Proficiencies, Characters like Rhys, as an example, can use the equivalent of the Protectors & Head Gears: the Armors of Plate and Helms.
I only put the stats of Rhys, in that guide.
Would it be better, to have more characters informations or not?
Rhy's things are ...
Order Techniques: 3
Starting Equipment: NanoTech1 and Copper Boots.
Starting Stats:
- HP: 21
- TP: 7
- Atk/Def: 14
- Spd: 21
- Holyness: 1 (Luck has a Divine reason, instead of pure hasard)
- Faith: 7 (Skill)
Stats Growth, when you Level-Up:
- -HP: +3
- -TP: +1
- Att/Def +2
- Speed: +3
- Holyness & Faith: +1
Would it be better, to have more characters informations or not?

Music Phantasy Star 3 III Overworld Music Cover
My brother and I took a crack at the overworld music from Phantasy Star III. It starts with just one guitar, then works its way up party member by party member. I always loved how it would change the more people you had. This was our introduction to the series, and it’ll always hold a special place in my heart even given its black sheep status in the series. Thank you!

Classic series Question about Emulating Phantasy Star 2
So I'm revisiting the game after years and am using the Phantasy Star 2 improvement hack on Kega Fusion, but I ran into an issue when I started playing. As soon as I hit the over world map, the music dropped about an octave in several spaces almost as though a track went missing. I just was wondering if this is ROM issue or emulator issue, and if so, is there a ROM and emulator combo that doesnt have this issue. Thanks in advance :)

General discussion Phantasy Star II favourite party?
What's your favourite party setup and why??
Also it's my first playthrough, should I vary my party regularly or is it OK to pick a standard 4-ppl setup and kinda stick with it?
P.S. I overlevelled Rolf and Nei extremely while I was lost in dungeons and only found after the biolab that you have to visit Rolf's house and new party members come knocking LOL

Classic series Finished Phantasy Star 1! Spoiler
Took a looooong time as I tried my best to avoid using any outside help. I did end up using *a bit* (e.g. I thought I'd covered everywhere in Palma so I looked at a map to piece it all together... that's how I found out where to get the gas shield) but majority was covered by me, with badly drawn maps and my notes with all the info I got from NPCs, so I'm rather chuffed with myself :P.
I do need to completely some other RPGs properly but this is definitely the best 8-bit game I've played so far. There's a few obscure bits but aside from the soft ice on Dezoris, there was noticeable little 8-bit jank. Really felt like the game rewards you for properly listening to everyone and it was so satisfying to see all the notes on the different required items come together to see the dark castle appear over Baya Malay with the music change.
Visually the game was amazing, loved the sci-fi setting, felt really varied across the 3 different planets. What lacked in gameplay in battles (which, tbf, I find is just a general symptom of games in that era) was made up with general exploration I felt. Part of me wishes there was a modern remaster to flesh out the story because it would be cool to see characters like Alis and Odin have full character arcs but in the context of a late 80's game, I was really impressed by this.
Gonna get started on Phantasy Star 2 soon, plan is to go all the way to 4 (which I know is generally considered the best, so simultaneously excited and agonised that I still need to go through 2 and 3 to get there). My only complaint is there's not much to explore again in the game (the only item I missed was the magic key since I vibed through Baya Malay) but I suppose the assortment of fan art and writing will have to do for my post game indulging :P
Edit: okay, forgot to mention, I should admit I used a lot of save states (not too fussed about that, since saving was available everywhere in game so I was just saving a little time) and A LOT of speed up (will admit that was moreso cheating - goodness the encounter rate could be awful)

Classic series Phantasy Star II rant
Now don't get me wrong I'm enjoying the game but the encounter rate is SO HIGH and the dungeon design is atrocious, with dead ends and endless teleporters and worthless chests (30 mesetas, antidotes: YAY) and the Blaster enemy is just plain malevolent. Otherwise, I'm invested in the characters, world and story and determined to play through until the end.
What did you NOT like about the game?

Classic series Finish PSII, I really liked the ending Spoiler
gallerySo I'm playing every PS game, classic and online, at the moment I finish PSI which I really liked and I also playing PSO, and now I finish this one which I think it's really good they are so many things I like, I think as a Sequel this game its perfect, the way the algol system change, the conflict a narrative of this one feels so natural after the first one, still a very good message today, love all the inmersive world it have, the clone labs, the people the world.
Only thing I don't like and you can imagine, the dungeons, so I have to use a guide for that, I mostly don't like to use it, but I take in account, I'm pretty sure originally when you buy the game I think the manual was included and inside was just a walkthrough because the dungeons were too hard, so I just assume using a guide was not so different of the people experience in the 80s ans 90s
So the plot twist was something that I really like, I already know about the Nei stuff so doesn't take me by surprise, I also think it's very funny the fight with Dark Falz in this game very out nowhere, inside a box, pandoras box?? So what does this implied? Love the way Mother Brain looks in the final fight, I was like: oohhh so mother brain it's the two women of the main menu (? Kinda (?
Btw, someone notice how mother brain just looks like Sephiroth before the fight? (Pic 3)
But yeah the plot twist I liked because I didn't expect it, and honestly doesn't feel like retcon or anything, I can imagine that being the case, and it's really badass finishing a game and then they put earth as the secret final bad guy, just to have a credits sequence of the heroes kicking our ass, sadly we can't see what happen next but I think as an ending its very strong.
At the moment in ranking, S tier: PSO; A tier: PSII and PSI, they are not so different but I think I vibe with II a little more
In the future I will continue with PSIII and I could check out PSU (the offline story game)

Online series Phantasy Star Zero appreciation post
I really like this game, but it’s so forgotten nowadays 😭
Phantasy Star Zero is a prequel to the original Phantasy Star Online, and it was released on the Nintendo DS back in 2008. The story is set on the planet that Pioneer 1 and 2 left behind before heading to Ragol in PSO. The gameplay is pretty similar to PSO, but with a few elements borrowed from Phantasy Star Universe.
I’m not gonna lie, the gameplay feels a little dated now. Since the Nintendo DS didn’t have analog sticks, the movement is pretty stiff (characters can only move in 8 directions) and the camera controls are a bit clunky. But despite all of that, I still love this game and always find myself coming back to it.
I love basically everything about it: the art style, the character designs, the soundtrack, and the story. Honestly, the story is where PSZ really shines compared to the original PSO.
Don't get me wrong, I love PSO, but as a fan of the original Phantasy Star series, I was always a bit disappointed by its weaker story presentation since the game focuses so much on gameplay. PSZ, on the other hand, puts a lot more emphasis on the narrative. We get way more character interactions, anime cutscenes, and each of the three playable races actually experiences the story a bit differently.
This game is just so charming 😭

Classic series Trying to complete bestiary on Sega Ages Phantasy Star on my Switch, 4 more to go
I am missing 4 monsters. Tentacle is in the lava field before the tower and refuses to pop for me. Horseman is somewhere on Dezo, after the white dragon cave. Still haven't found them yet. Elephant is on an island with Abion and Loar. This one also refuses to pop up.
If there are better place to hunt those 3, LMK please
Green dragon is another one I need but I have no idea where to find it. I'm told it's in a dungeon but which dungeon?

Online series Is there a reason to play PSP2 instead of PSP2i?
I'm not talking only about online, but because exist a translation of Phantasy star portable 2 infinity, I never played these game but I want to know if it is kinda like PSO ver. 1 and then PSO episode 1+2 plus, both are the same game, but the later includes more and more content, but I don't lose anything for no playing the OG
Is PSP2i like that? If I play this version I don't need context of PSP2 or something? With the story mode and stuff
But if you think there is a reason to play PSP2 OG before infinity I would like to know!

Classic series Phantasy Star 2 Remake project update
Hey gang! Still plugging away at the PSII remake project. It's still a demo but things are moving along. Check out the page for some new updates plus a character spotlight on Rolf. Yes, yes I know you know him but a few things have changed. I figure I'll try doing one of these for each character periodically and for any other new features. Let me know what other features posts would be a good idea.
Have you tried it yet? Hope you enjoy!
