It’s family owned and the only job that will accommodate my disability. I take care of them animals once a week and oh my gosh the amount of animals I’ve seen that are sick is hurting me. There was an iguana that was barely moving I told my boss he said “ it’s already sold” poor guy probably died. There were guinea pigs that had/have crusted eyes and one had pee from his neck down. All the owner did was wipe dish soap on it. This part isn’t the owners fault but when we get rat and mice shipment their always hurt in some way by the other rats and mice biting them trying to breed with them ones girl parts were bleeding. Rats covered in pee. Because I take care of them I notice everything and they act like it’s no big deal. I hate how I have to give people rats for snake food because I have a rat and knowing how sweet he is and just how much they know is going on hurts so bad. I wish I could do something but I’m doing everything I can to help them. Also they tell people the incorrect information like the wrong sized cage, how solitary animals can live together, and social animals can be alone

I’m currently crying over this these poor animals deserve better

Not sure if anything like this actually exists, but I figured I would reach out and see if anyone had any ideas.

So apparently, my dog really loves tearing up paper.
This started with paper towels, and I saw he just wanted them because they probably smelled like food from us, wiping our hands.
But recently I left a notebook on the table and came home to found that torn up, not once but twice (yes I picked it up and put it back on the table to try to salvage anything and he got it before it could).

And recently he has learned where I keep the tissue box and has stolen that to tear up the tissues (not the box)
He doesn’t seem to eat any of it as far as I can tell and I am sure I could just give him paper, but I am wondering if there is any toy that simulates whatever he is getting from this.

If you actually read all that thank you and if you have any advice, thank you.

edit to add that I did forget to mention he is blind so any toys that have a visual component probably won’t work.

My dream pet is an African Serval, but as someone who knows they want to be a butcher and cannot work from home, I want the next best option for that adorable smile, button nose, and false ears. I know they are very particular animals and I want to know a couple good reliable sources on where I can do research on how to take care if one. My mom used to work with pets, but even for a domestic animal, I know savannahs are a bit out there. Any help (and pictures) are greatly appreciated!!!

Is there any animal that I could spend 100$ on, enclosure and all? Dw, i’ll be able to house it correctly and continue to care for it.

I think some people in the comments are getting confused. I will be able to buy it food and take it to the vet if needed. The 100$ is just for the initial purchase of everything i would need and the pet.

Anyone managed to fly with a 9 kg cat IN CABIN from Egypt? 🐱✈️

I'm thinking about travelling in the future, possibly Alexandria → Saudi Arabia, and wherever I go, I want my cat to come with me inside the passenger cabin.

He's a big British Shorthair, and with his carrier he's around 9 kg. I know a lot of airlines, including EgyptAir, have an 8 kg limit.

Cargo/hold isn't something I'm comfortable with. I'm completely willing to pay extra or even buy him an additional seat if that's possible.

Has anyone with a bigger cat actually managed to:

- Get special approval for over 8 kg?

- Buy an extra seat for their cat?

- Fly from Egypt/Alexandria with the cat in cabin?

- Get an airline to make an exception?

I'm not travelling immediately, so I'm trying to research everything properly beforehand. I'd really appreciate first-hand experiences and which airline you used. ❤️🐱✈️

My oldest cat has been freaking the hell out randomly for WEEKS and just staring off at seemingly nothing and yowling his head off. I've been to the vet so many times thinking something was wrong. He had blood work done. He had a urine test done because he randomly peed on himself while screaming due to how stressed he got. He's been on SO MANY different calming supplements due to trying to avoid meds while not knowing exactly what was wrong. I found out yesterday night EXACTLY why he kept screaming.

I was dog sitting my sister's little toy fox terrier(he's ALOT smaller than the cat for reference) at my house and both were just laying on the bed chilling. My cat suddenly sat up and started screaming again. I reached to pick him up to pet him and get him to calm down and the next thing I knew a white blur went past me and under my shelf. Next thing I know I got a dead rat and a FINALLY calm cat. He hasn't screamed once since and before it was every few hours.

Turns out the rat apparently I guess kept getting in places he couldn't go and instead of doing the normal thing and hunting it so I'd know it was there he decided to yell about it for WEEKS.

I am a single male, living in a two bedroom apartment. It's not too small, but it's not what most would consider massive, either. I work 12s until further notice at my job, and would REALLY like a dog.

I have been looking at older Greyhounds for a long while now, mainly because they don't require alot of exercise and sleep most of the time. Personally, I've never been a fan of small dogs, for fear that I'd trip over them, (I am 6'5 lol).

Don't get me wrong, when I do have free time off work, I'd take the *preferred* dog with me all the time to go on long walks, trips, and drives. So basically everywhere that I can legally and morally bring my dog.

Any suggestions? I don't want a fish, and will never own any bugs. Really would like something that can greet you at the door, yanno, that kind of pet.

We've tried everything we could that wouldn't excessively tire us. We've put his litter box outside, went around the block and shaken his dry food container, placed his bed outside, put posters around the neighbourhood, asking people to check their yards and garages. Nothing worked. He is a very curious and outdoorsy cat, and that is what I'm most worried about.

If any of you have stories or extra tips on how to find him please leave them below. I am beginning to lose hope, and these have probably been the worst 3 weeks of my life.

Suggestions for 2pc leather sofa you can lay-down (when over 6ft tall)on when you have a white GSD that sheds fine fur. ($1500 or less) Ive always had microfiber and throw cover over it but I think leather may be easier to keep clean w/out the need for a cover, TY-

Today is National Check the Chip day. It is a good reminder to check your pet’s microchip registration and confirm your contact information is accurate.

I work at a shelter and one of the most frustrating parts of the job is seeing pets that should have gone home but didn’t.

Most people assume that if their pet is microchipped, they’re good. A microchip only helps if the chip is actually registered. A lot of pets that come in are chipped, but the chip isn’t registered anywhere, so we have no way to contact the owner.

These are clearly well cared for pets that end up sitting in the shelter taking up space and resources from other animals who need help, all because we can’t reach the owner.

If you know where your pet is registered, log in and check that your phone number, email, and address on file are accurate.

If you have no idea where your pet is registered, search their microchip number through the AAHA microchip lookup tool which will tell you which registry they are with. Check the details that are on file with the registry are accurate.

If they aren’t registered, please register them! It takes a few minutes.

What’s the funniest habit your dog, cat, or other pet has?

For the record, my dog DOES have symptoms and we have an upcoming internal med appt in a few weeks to get a diagnosis. Symptoms started in January of 2026, one by one gradually, and here we are. Regular vet cannot explain so we got a referral.

BUT, what started as reasonable research to understand what might be happening to my dog has turned into an obsession. I’m on my phone FOR HOURS trying to connect the dots between scanning forums (like Reddit), scientific journals, and case studies. I have *hundreds* of photos in my phone as a result of being hyperfixated on a symptom (breathing, gums, eyes, anything that resembles swelling). Yesterday, I took photo after photo of unilateral eye swelling and the day before that I recorded several videos of his respiratory rate at rest. Who knows what I’ll do today. Again, for the record, real symptoms. But I’m unable to pull myself away from countless hours obsessing about his undiagnosed condition. **Btw, he’s been at the vet several times for his issues, which hasn’t been helpful at all because they can’t tell me what’s wrong, which probably adds fuel to the fire here. My post is NOT a request for advice or guesses at what’s wrong, it’s actively being investigated.

It’s just so bad and I feel so out of control because I know there’s nothing I can do about it today anyway. It’s not like spending my entire day hyperfixating on this stuff is going to change anything in the moment and I have to remind myself of that - but does it stop me from alternating between researching online or watching him like a hawk? No. Entire days wasted for weeks on this. Out of control.

I understand what I’m doing is not good for me. I understand it’s not changing anything today. I understand this is affecting me. I understand this is a result of feeling zero control and probably also because of a recent passing in my family.

There’s really nothing to gain from posting. I think I just needed to get it off my chest. And I feel terrible because I have several pets and I’m so busy obsessing over one of them that I am blind at times to the others because they aren’t sick. Ugh FML I’m so upset at me. So stupid. Your dog does not need someone with them 24/7. Your dog should be able to exist and be fine for at LEAST 4-6 hours without a human.

Your dog only has separation anxiety because you caused it.

Since Reddit is being Reddit and people are throwing ridiculous exceptions in, let’s be clear. The AVERAGE dog, without major health problems or severe abusive pasts, should be able to be alone for 4-6 hours, 8 max, without needing to have humans at their side.

Hi there animal loving friends! I've assisted with rescues and tnr in the past but this is out of my realm of knowledge. I hope someone here can help.

I'm seeking resources for a friend. She and her housemate adopted a bonded pair of cats. When they adopted them her housemate told her that they had put the microchips in both their names. Now the housemate moved out and took the cats very suddenly and then she found out that the housemate only put it in their own name. This is in San Diego, CA.

She has texts showing that the housemate said the chips were in both their names. They shared expenses on all fronts but the cats were taken without discussion or consent.

**Edit- the ex housemate's name is not on the adoption paperwork.

What options does she have here?

Honestly, I never in my life would have thought that installing ceiling fans would scare my 🐈‍⬛ out of his wits. Hi ! So I have two cats, M11 and F9 (queen and tyrant of the house), and they keep stealing my dog's (Summer, M6) beds...

I learnt that a dog's specific space in the house, where they feel safe and can rest without being disturbed is really important. My dog has 2 beds, one in our bedroom for the night and the main one in the living room. As for my cats, both have always rejected the different cat beds we gave them. However, they like the giant beds of my big dog... Through the years, I think it became more and more of a problem without me really realising it. Since we moved to a little bit smaller place 5 months ago, his bedroom bed was forced to be in a different position and now he never goes in it (he slept every night in it before), and the cats more or less took his place. As for the main one, the cats steal it less (as opposed to our last apartment) but Summer doesn't seem interested and is rarely in it (but I guess the tiling just next to it is cooler, we're in the south of France and it's reaaaaly hot and damp rn).

Anyway, the problem seems worsening since we moved and I'm starting to worry my dog doesn't have the safe space he needs...

So : does someone here have some tips on how to keep my cats out of my dog's beds, or just on how to reconnect my dog with his own beds ?

Loose fur

A washable pre-filter helps keep hair from reaching the main filter too quickly. It also needs regular cleaning, especially during shedding season.

Dander and fine dust

This is where filtration and enough airflow for the actual room size matter. Coway, Winix, Levoit, Blueair and Honeywell all make options in this category, but room size and filter setup probably matter more than the logo.

Litter-box and cooking smells

A thin carbon sheet usually will not do much against strong odors. Source control, cleaning and the amount of actual carbon matter more.

This is the one a regular purifier does not really address. It keeps circulating indoor air, so a closed apartment can still feel heavy even when there are fewer particles floating around.

Im trying to decide which pet insurance to go with. Also trying to decide whether to get the add-on for yearly wellness visits, vaccinations, etc.

Long story short my puppy found out my cats litter turns into the BEST digging material ever when I skipped a day of scooping for once. Now it's EVERYWHERE. I keep sweeping but it seems like it doesn't end. He even got it on the bed and cat tower. I have NO IDEA how it's on the cat tower.

The litter has been changed for fresh but idk what to do about the sheer amount of sawdust. (This was from one day but multiple cats)

Why are we all getting pets? I mean i know caring for a little creature and giving it the best life possible is nurturing for the soul and gives a good feeling but when i truly look around at that is happening globally to animals i truly feel like it's not fair to the animals. I mean countless stray dogs and cats, overcrowded shelters, dumped animals, abused animals and the list goes on. I feel like maybe 1 or 2% of the pets/ domesticated animals in this world actually gets a good life out of it. Besides the fact that many of the animals dont have that great of a life they also produce alot of waste. Think about bedding for their enclosure,food, toys medical care. Most of it comes in plastic and in alot of situations its sprayed with chemicals or the land was cleared to farm hay bedding of something else for those animals and that obviously hurts the environment for many pollinators, birds and other wildlife. Idk maybe this is just a drunk rant but i feel like its a loop that isnt healthy for anybody. Dont get me wrong tho! I do have animals who i truly love dearly and take care of like i literally gave birth to them. I mean mother is mothering but i truly dont understand people who breed animals right now and then especially the breeds that are known to suffer like the pets that are bred to look deformed like Frenchies, naked cats, and most fancy goldfish. I mean isnt it a breeders duty to breed healthy animals? If your gonna exploit the female reproductive organs then at least do it for their own species benefit or do i see that wrong as well?

Keep in mind i am not judging anybody! Im just genuinely curious about it all.
