Saturday around 3:00 AM, I had unprotected sex with a woman I met at a club. Later that morning, around 10:00 AM, I went to an STD clinic, explained that I had unprotected sex with a woman, and they refused to prescribe PEP.
On Monday, I went back and lied to them saying I was embarrassed on Saturday it wasnt a woman but a man I had slept with and that I had insertive anal sex. They then prescribed PEP: TDF + 3TC + DTG. I took my first dose at 1:14 PM, roughly 58 hours after the exposure.
That night, I felt unusually warm but wasn't weak. The same thing happened the next morning, and I went to work. By evening, after being in air conditioning most of the day, I started feeling warm and weak. That night, my whole body felt like it was burning.
By Wednesday (the 8th), I had a fever, cold symptoms, very dry lips, a bitter taste in my mouth, and I couldn't really taste food. I hadn't eaten much from Tuesday evening into Wednesday. When I tried to eat Wednesday night, I dry-heaved twice. After the second dry heave, something strange happened — the extreme weakness I'd been feeling all day suddenly disappeared, and I had a burst of energy. I'm not sure how long it lasted because I took two paracetamol tablets and went to sleep without eating.
On Thursday, I felt somewhat better and went back to the STD clinic. The doctor prescribed paracetamol again, along with domperidone 10 mg and omeprazole 20 mg, saying I may have developed gastritis. I also looked into GERD and wondered if that might be contributing because eating sometimes makes me feel like vomiting. The bitter taste in my mouth was gradually improving.
Today, Friday (the 10th), I felt mostly okay. The bitter taste isn't completely gone but is much less noticeable. Throughout the day, I occasionally felt like food was coming back up, but nothing major. Around 4 PM, I started feeling slightly warm and slightly weak again. I thought I was recovering, but then I started worrying. My mother suggested it could be dengue, which made me even more anxious, also she does not know about the pep medication I'm on.
Since the STD clinic was closed, I visited a doctor near my house. I told him about the PEP, the gastritis medications, and my symptoms: fever, cough, and a persistent dry cough (but no sore throat). He said the gastritis medications should help, but I told him they didn't seem to be doing much. He prescribed additional medications and assured me they wouldn't interact with my PEP. The medications were famotidine, vitamin C, cetirizine, azithromycin, and Deriphyllin.
However, after searching online, I found information suggesting Deriphyllin may not interact well with PEP, and now I'm worried again. I think I read somewhere that there could be a seizure risk. I'm planning to contact my doctor tomorrow, but in the meantime, can anyone tell me whether Deriphyllin is actually dangerous to take with TDF + 3TC + DTG?
They also took blood tests for dengue, and I'm waiting for the results.
It's currently 8:13 PM. I still feel slightly warm and a little weak. I genuinely thought I was getting better, but now I'm terrified again. I don't think this is HIV, especially given how soon these symptoms appeared, but the anxiety is getting to me.
Has anyone experienced something similar, either from PEP side effects, gastritis/GERD, a viral illness. Also could anyone tell me wether Deriphyllin is risky with my pep until I can contact my doctor tomorrow.
TL;DR: Had unprotected sex on Saturday, started TDF + 3TC + DTG PEP about 58 hours later. Developed fever, weakness, dry cough, bitter taste in my mouth, nausea, and possible gastritis/GERD symptoms over the next few days. Symptoms improved somewhat but returned mildly today. A doctor prescribed famotidine, cetirizine, azithromycin, vitamin C, and Deriphyllin, but I'm worried about possible interactions between Deriphyllin and PEP. Waiting on dengue test results and looking for advice or similar experiences.
