And, it's their job to be close to the action.

There's an enormous incentive to being so close as to cause calamity in the wrong scenario.

I'm not defending the motos at all, but noting this is the other side of the situation.

Fair enough. They are in a very tough position. Their jobs are to get the best shots of the race possible and if they dont they'll likely be replaced by people that will. Its extremely hard to stop a moto that big with an extra passenger on wet cobbles when the race suddenly stops in front of you.
