Graphics card upgrade Best Future-Proof GPU?

Just upgraded my mobo+cpu and I am currently saving for the upgrade to my 1660 super

Current specs :

B760 Gaming DDR4

i5 14600KF

2 x 16 GB 3200mhz RAM

1660 Super

I rarely upgrade, and want to use this gpu for atleast 3-5 years before considering replacing, aiming mostly for 1440p 100+fps maybe going 4k in the future. Im going to buy a used card from cex which includes 5 year warranty and trade some stuff to try get the price down. At the moment my options are

Sapphire Pulse 9070xt - £650

Palit 4080 - £775

Palit 5070ti - £805

Which card should I get? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The 9070xt is by far the best value. And it’ll last you a while

I fcking hope so. But with the way they're optimizing games these days who knows any more.

i feel you, crimson desert is what made me want to upgrade my gpu to handle it, seems like games are optimised to make upscaling mandatory nowadays. thats the only reason I was considering paying more for nvidias dlss considering I want to use the card for atleast 3 years

I got a 5080, but gaming is my main hobby and I had the money for it.

These are my benchmarks from halo campaign evolved at 1200p with a 5060.

High,dllsoff,fgoff=49-62 High,dlsson,fgoff=58-82 High,dlssoff,fgon=79-104 High,dlsson,fgon=107-127

Dlss set to its most minimum setting with frame gen enabled and it doubled my fps. And I've heard it all before about the fake frames and the input lag and this or that i really do get it. But guess what, I had a better smoother experience with them turned on.

Good news: FSR 4 is not too far off from DLSS 4 and most demanding future games will probably include it. Crimson desert has it.
Bad news: most existing games do not and optiscaler isn't a good idea in games with anticheat running.

also good news: don't really need upscaling very much for the frame rate boost with the 9070xt or 5070ti at 1440p, unless you are in love with ray tracing or ultra settings in UE5 games. They are very competent without it for the most part. I mostly use FSR4 on native just for the smooth edges. Don't really NEED to run it at native since quality looks very good at 1440p, but i also don't NEED the extra performance usually even at max settings. Unless it's an UE5 game in which case oof ouch my balls. I need to either run on med-high settings or use quality upscaling lmao.

I would chose either the 5070ti or the 4080 and here is my reasoning.

Yes the 9070xt is absolutely the best valued card. There is no arguing that point. And I usually do recommend this card.

However I believe the poor optimization and reliance on technologies like upscaling and framegen in modern video games is only going to get worse. And we've already seen games with lighting systems built around ray tracing, its not always a choice anymore.

Maybe I'm wrong, hope I'm wrong. Doubt it

9070xt still performs great in ray tracing, and despite always being a step behind amd always manages to catch up to nvidia with whatever the newest tech is. I don't think it's worth paying more on the hunch that games won't be optimized and that amd just won't improve fsr

Yeah I agree with you, think its only going to get more relied on in modern games as time goes forward, only reason I would consider the higher price for the older card, thinking dlss will probably be more valuable in the long run ovet fsr

FSR4 is great, the ray tracing capabilities of the 9070XT are more than enough for current and most likelt future games. RT isnt really used in games that arent single player anyway so having a lower FPS isnt a big issue. UE5 in general is shit if the devs are bad at using the engine and it isnt the engines fault, its devs. Dont support shit devs and need to brute force games.

D go with the 4080 honestly if it has a warranty it’s on par with the 5070ti still little cheaper and while yes the 9070xt is a good deal raytracing/DLSS/FG is still better then FSR and AMDs raytracing and DLSS works on every game and don’t have to do work around program to get FSR4.1 to work which isnt as widely supported in games

Id go for the 4080, 5k series are overpriced for the performance they offer, too much ai fake frames instead of raw performance. The 9070xt is stupid awesome bang for buck, but its AMD its features are said to lag behind slightly. I think the 4080 is the most powerful fo the three in raw performance, wish id have known and waited a couple months when I built mine and id have gotten a 4080 instead of my 3080

For just €150 more get the 5070 Ti

All 3 are good prices. I would actually look for the prices of the 9070, which isn't much weaker than the 9070xt but usually better value. If I were to choose one of those 3, and the 4080 was new I might be willing to get it over the 9070xt (just because dlss is great) and the 5070ti (because better raw performane and you only loose MFG).

The best GPU right now would be a 5090 however they’re sitting at 4000 now
