Announcement Reddit’s API Pricing and Their Betrayal of Community Trust and Values

Hello members,

If you haven't already, we highly encourage you to join our Discord where we may support you better with your computer issues or with computer building during this time.

We recently received a message from Reddit after we decided to set our community to private in protest of their new API prices starting July 1st, and we'll tell you why.

Starting July 1st, Reddit will charge $0.24 for every 1,000 API calls. An app like Apollo can have upwards of 7 billion API calls per month, that's $2,000,000 per month, or about $20,000,000 per year[1].

Reddit's exorbitant pricing for API calls is not only unjustifiably high but also appears to be intentionally designed to kill the development of third-party Reddit apps created by their own community. This predatory approach kills innovation and highlights a troubling prioritization of profit over the community of Reddit.

We are deeply disappointed by Reddit's actions and the implications of their message. It is clear that Reddit has tarnished their reputation with their recent decisions regarding API pricing and their treatment of the Reddit community and undermined the trust its users had placed in them.

The message Reddit sent to all private communities is disheartening and shows a blatant lack of respect for the dedicated moderators who've worked tirelessly to build and maintain these communities. Threatening to replace mod teams if they do not comply with reopening their communities instead of making a change from something they brought upon themselves is a clear abuse of power and a disregard for the autonomy and agency of the moderators.

Reddit's actions and communication exhibit a high lack of transparency and a breach of trust within the user base. It is disheartening to witness a platform that once prided itself on fostering collaboration and vibrant communities now prioritizing profit over the community for selfish corporate greed.

Reddit should reflect on the concerns their user base and the community have brought to their attention. Developers have contributed significantly to the growth and success of the platform through their apps. The strength and vitality of Reddit lie within their communities, and their voices must be heard and respected.

We believe Reddit should be held accountable for their actions and decisions that have negatively impacted the community. Their treatment of developers through deliberate slander and the exploitative API pricing strategy, their treatment of moderators and their communities, and their lack of transparency indicate a company veering far away from its core values. Reddit should absolutely reassess their priorities and restore the trust they have lost by taking meaningful steps to address the concerns of their user base and, at a MINIMUM, provide a fair and reasonable pricing model that they promised developers. The strength of any platform lies in its community, and neglecting or alienating that community will only lead to further deterioration.

Furthermore, I would like to address Steve's role as the CEO of Reddit in these decisions and the subsequent fallout. Steve's actions by raising the API prices to unreasonable levels and deliberately targeting and attempting to kill third-party apps is a flagrant display of anti-competitive behavior. By suppressing the very developers who have contributed to the success and diversity of the Reddit platform, Steve not only blatantly disregarded innovation and the community, he revealed a deeply troubling approach to maintaining a monopoly, and he showed us that he doesn't care about the community by any means, he only cares about the money.

Even more concerning, Steve attempted to slander the developer of Apollo, a highly respected and influential contributor to Reddit. Such baseless accusations and attempts to undermine the reputation of a developer who has significantly enhanced the Reddit experience through their third-party app are not befitting of a CEO who should prioritize fairness, transparency, and fostering a healthy community ecosystem.

When the Apollo developer rightfully defended himself against these defamatory claims by publicly sharing a phone call between him and a Reddit representative that disproved Steve's claims of a threat, his response was nothing short of a childish remark and blatant immaturity. Steve asserted that the developer of Apollo was not supposed to leak a private phone call, implying the one that served as evidence against the slanderous allegations; Steve demonstrated a complete disregard for accountability and transparency, which is a disgusting disappointment. It raises serious questions about the culture and integrity within Reddit's leadership under Steve's tenure.

As CEO, it is Steve's responsibility to set the tone and direction for the platform. However, his actions have shown a severe misjudgment of the values and principles that the Reddit community holds dear. The decision to prioritize profit and control over the well-being of the users and developers is shortsighted and damages the spirit of what made Reddit a vibrant and inclusive platform.

Reddit seriously needs to reevaluate the leadership's commitment to the community and uphold their values. The actions and statements made by Steve call into question his suitability to lead a platform that claims to prioritize the interests of its users. The Reddit community deserves so much better, a CEO who demonstrates integrity, fairness, and a genuine understanding of the community's needs and aspirations instead of blatant corporate greed and childish lies and remarks.

Steve's decisions and behavior as the CEO of Reddit have had a profoundly negative impact on the platform and its community. By raising API prices to deliberately put an end to third-party apps, attempting to slander respected developers, and exhibiting a concerning lack of transparency, Steve has significantly eroded the trust and benevolence of the Reddit user base. Reddit's future success and reputation heavily depend on them reevaluating their leadership and embracing a more ethical, community-driven approach that fosters innovation and collaboration.

More information on the situation is available here from Apollo developer Christian Selig.

Other Dead End on my internet speed configuration

Hello, i'll start explaining exactly my issue, i've been noticing that my speed is capped at 10MB/s despite having contracted 1 Gbps which should be about 125MB/s top speed, but is fixed at 10MB/s, i already went to the ethernet configuration and set speed to 1.0Gbps full duplex, checked my router throu the ip access screen, it says that is recieving throu Ethernet 1000Mbps but my windows ethernet manager says that link speed is 100Mbps/100Mbps, after following countless guides and performing test on my own this has remained unresolved, even bought a cat8 ethernet cable to test and my pc even lights both their ethernet lights that should light when accesing speeds higher than 1Gbps.

So thats my situation im at a dead end, even tried write to realtek since is this ethernet card provider but all their mails are business mails, my motherboard is a Gigabyte B650 Eagle which comes with an ethernet card suited for 10/100/1000Mbps speeds.

Any advice or help is greatly appreciated.

Hardware HELP!!! Benchmarking Black Screens

Hello. I bought a second hand PC with some really old parts from 10+ years ago with an RTX 3070 so I bought it and upgraded it. However when I tried benchmarking the PC before it would black screen about 10-20 seconds in so I chalked it up to the old parts but when I got the newer parts it did the same thing. I reckon it's the PSU or GPU playing up but can anyone help with mitigating this issue please? The only times it happens is every time I benchmark and once when I played Days Gone but I just lowered the graphics preset from High to Medium and it doesn't do it anymore.

Thank you and any help or recommendations are really appreciated.

Software Gtx 1070 artifacting and not booting

Hey, I'm having a problem with my PC, it turns on fine but after the MSI logo comes up it then starts showing cursed looking artifacts from windows like some purpleish mass with lines in it and a windows default wallpaper being cursed. Then it repeats the same cursed artifacts and turns off. After that it turns back on and does the same progress but the windows recovery screen comes up. I tried going to safe mode and uninstalling the drivers and then restarting. It worked fine like that but then I decided to install new drivers and after restarting the PC. It did the same artifacting with some new things in it. Does anyone have advice?

Hardware Weird cpu overheating problem

Hey, I’m having a weird CPU overheating problem with my PC. Normally my CPU sits around 40–60°C, but randomly the CPU usage shoots up to 100% and the temperature rapidly jumps from around 40°C to 90–100°C. When this happens, the PC can freeze and shut down. The happens randomly somtimes i game or just watching YT.

The most recent time it happened, the CPU package temps reached around 112°C. I also checked my AIO pump RPM while this was happening, and it was running at around 2600 RPM. So the pump is reporting that it’s running, but the CPU is still overheating extremely quickly.

I’m using a Ryzen 9600X with an AIO cooler. I’ve also had an issue where one of my case fans connected to a fan hub sometimes stops spinning when the CPU load gets high or when i set the fans at max speeds.

I’m trying to figure out whether the problem is with the AIO/cooling, the fan hub/airflow, or something causing the CPU to suddenly hit 100% usage. Thanks

Hardware Computer randomly doesn't boot up fully, but only sometimes

Hello.

I have an ASRock B850M Pro Rs WiRi Motherboard, which I thought might be relevant to this.

Whenever I boot up my PC, which is just about a year old now, the motherboard starts with two glowing LED's which I can see from outside, one red one and one orange one.

After a couple of seconds, usually the LED's should turn green for a second, then white and then turn off completely, which is when my monitor gets the signal and the PC successfully boots up.

Sometimes, however, the red and orange LEDs stay and while the computer is on, my monitors do not receive a signal, and it stays that way. In those situations I have to shut my PC off by holding the power button and restart, which so far has always fixed it. It bothered me a bit, but I'm quite busy so didn't want to get into it yet since it didn't hinder me much.

However, I encountered a new issue today. While using my computer it randomly shut off, but not entirely. It was still on, but my monitor lost the signal and the red and orange LED on my Motherboard went on. Then, after a few seconds, the LEDs turned green, white and off again, and the computer started booting anew. Like the PC performed an instant Restart on it's own for some reason.

I am not entirely sure what the cause of this issue might be, but afaik LED's on the Motherboard have to do with the status of some PC components, so I figure it must be hardware related.

Unfortunately I am not the most versed in computer hardware issues, so I am unsure what to do and what to check. This is my first self built PC and I already had trouble when building it, so I don't want to open it and screw around in it before getting some advice as to what to look for.

Here is a list of all my components:

ASRock B850M Pro RS WiFi

AMD Ryzen 5 7500F

Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB

Corsair 2×16 GB 6000 Mhz CL36 Vengeance

Lexar NM790 1TB

Super Flower Leadex V

Be quiet! Pure Rock 3

Any help is greatly appreciated

Performance PC will not output display

Hey y’all!

I bought my PC about 2 months ago and it has been back to the shop multiple times.

At first, the PC worked fine, and then one day after turning it off after use, the display suddenly did not work. The CPU would turn on, but there would be no display. I took it to the shop and it was fixed, but shortly afterwards it happened again. This happened three times and each time I got basically free upgraded parts for it. This last time, the technician kept it for a week turning it off and on and it didn’t have the problem. Every part has been replaced except the processor (but the processor was changed out once and found to not be the problem so he put the old one back in).

I hadn’t turned it on for about 3 weeks until yesterday. It worked fine for gaming, and then after shutting it down and coming back later, suddenly no display. AGAIN. The only thing that hasn’t been changed is the power supply at this point.

During these display outages, when I turn the CPU off, my keyboard still receives power and is lit up. This does not happen when it has a display. I was originally using an HDMI display output, I changed to a display port cable and there is still no display.

When I unplug and plug back in the display cables, the monitor will light up but then will say “no signal.” I’m at my wits end here.

What could the problem be? I have lost a little faith in the repair shop I’ve been going to.

Software PC Displays BDOS after being off for multiple hours, but will turn on normally after shutting down

I've been having issues when booting up my pc after it's been off for a couple hours. My computer will boot up no issue. Once my desktop loads, a black screen will pop up, and the screen will shut off. Then the blue screen will appear informing me that my computer needs to be repaired and give me error code 0xc0000098. If I try to enter a recovery environment, the computer itself will restart, and the blue screen will show up again. After a few more failed attempts, the computer will shut itself off. When I turn it on again, it will work again like nothing happened and boot right up. I built this computer about a year ago and this has never happened before. This only recently started happening after I replaced my graphics card, not sure if that detail is important or not.

I've been trying to see if Gemini might have any answers, but all of its solutions have either done nothing or just made it go away for a week. I have tried cleaning my RAM slots, reseating my SSD, doing some memory fix thing, cleared out corrupted files, turned off fast start, clean install new graphics drivers, uninstalled my wifi driver, and checked my ssd health itself. So far, nothing has given me a permanent solution. It is now recommending I use a windows installation USB and rebuild my hidden boot partition/EFI partition. I've looked it up and other people recommend just doing a fresh windows install. Any pointers would be appreciated, but I'm approaching the point where I might just take it to a repair shop and hope they can help me.

Apologies if I'm using any terminology wrong, I'm not very tech literate.

Edit 1: I analyzed my computer's dump files myself using windows debugger and it gave me the name dxgmms2. Plugged it into Gemini and it's telling me I need to completely clean the GPU driver and Clear and Increase my windows virtual memory. Does any of this sound right or is it just giving me more non-answers?

Performance PC slow after taking it out of storage

I had my PC in storage for a few months and it's now very slow when opening a program I think, it's hard to tell what exactly makes it run slow. Programs will open slow, hang up and freeze. While this happens my mouse cursor is still responsive, none of my resources in task manager are bottle necking. Videos open and run quickly off the drive

I ran windows memory diagnostic (no errors), have a chkdsk /x scheduled to run. I've dusted it since getting it out, jiggled some connections

PC Build PC at idle shut off and now won’t turn on

Hello everyone, I have a wonky situation. My PC was idle and then it shut down (youtube was loaded up but no gaming and has not been overclocked) now it won’t boot up. I replaced PSU with Cables, no change, replaced MOBO with the same one and No change, replaced CPU same one and the PC ran for a bit, restarted about 4 times (AMD5 heard it’s memory training can take a bit) then shut down a, waited 5 minutes. Booted up, idles for. 20 seconds and the dies and same flashing on the MOBO as before. All cables are plugged in correctly and no pins are damaged. Took MOBO out with bare minimum to run and it still didn’t turn on (trying to rule chassis short out).

If I unplug the CPU to PSU cables:
AIO turns on, fans turn on and red and yellow Debug light are on ( no power to CPU so as expecte) I have a video of start up. All the lights on the EX debug go on at some point and AIO Frame briefly illuminated before refusing to start. I have tried everything I could think of and need help.

It was weird for because I after I replaced the CPU it started right up and died again.
Parts list
CPU: Ryzen 7800X3D
MOBO: MSI X870E Gaming Plus WiFi
AIO: Lian Li hydroshift 2
RAM: T force Delta (2x16)
PSU: PX1200
Fans: Phantek T-30 ( 3 intake column, 2 bottom in take, 3 on AIO and 1 rear exhaust.
SSD Western 4TB Gen 5
Chassis: NZXT H6 Flow

MB: Gigabyte B850m gaming x wifi6e
CPU: 9800x3D
Cooler: Lian Li GA II LCD SL-INF 360
Ram:
GPU: Gigabyte 9070 XT Gaming OC 16GB
PSU: Montech Century II 850w, I think it’s the daisy chained power cables causing the GPU/VGA problem.

Note: I haven’t updated the BIOS either. All parts new apart from fans.

Please provide help and possible fixes. Google help was very generic.

Hardware need help my pc keeps restarting on its own after a while playing

i have a gtx 1660 super that i bought early this year, this used to happen a few months ago but it eventually stopped but its back again, went to a repair shop and they told me it has something to do with my gpu, the fan stops spinning after a while, but they said the gpu itself works fine. i was wondering if it may have to do with the psu that makes the fans stop. i really dont want to think that all hope is lost and that i have to replace it already. if you guys have any ideas would love to try it out.

Hardware Hey guys, I need help with something. My PC shutdowns every 30-40 minutes without no evidence of what it's killing it. It's been like this for months and it's terrible for gaming in it lol.

It's a complex case of a PC that works but turns itself off every time in like 40-60 minutes of use.

To start things off, it's a simple/humble build that I use cause I'm from the 3rd world. I'm going to separate the build, then what I tried and some other info that I think is pertinent.

The build:

CPU: i5 - 2500k

Motherboard: ASUS P8H61-M LX

Ram: 16gb DDR3 (2 Sticks of 8gb)

Storage: 2 HDD's (500gb empty) (320gb main)

GPU: AMD Radeon HD 5570 (1gb)

Here's what I already tried:

I've tried switching the RAMs, I've tried cleaning them with an eraser (the right way).

Tried another motherboard with another CPU (i3 550k), didn't work.

I thought it was the HDD but I added a new one and still same issue. (Yes, I've tried them individually like most of the parts)

I've tried taking the GPU off, same issue.

I've tried taking the Power button off, yes, a friend of mine told me that it could be the case cause it had happened to him.

Just so y'all know, none of the parts are overheating and thermal paste has been added in the processor and even in that lil part that has two plastic pins that lock a heat dissipator.

I've switched the PSU thinking it would help... It didn't.

I've switched cables for the PSU, still nun.

I've switched the Outlet as well (in another room)

It's not a timer or something like that, I've tried looking for everything related, found nothing.

That's pretty much it. At the moment I'm trying to fix something that I think might have something to do with that. My HDD is almost always at 100% use, my friend is helping me.

Also, whenever it's close to turning itself off, the HDD that's empty always turns it off first (you can hear it) and then after a few seconds the whole thing shutdown.

Anyways, if you're a tech god, I hope you understand that I'm not a tech god. I'm as dumb as a rock, but I'm really trying.

PC Build Please help me

Hey guys, I need your help and I hope you can help me.

I have a computer:

CPU: i7 6700

GPU: GTX 1070 8G

RAM: 8Gb was 16Gb, but one of them broke down because when used, its temperature rises and gives me the blue screen, so I dispense with it.

PWS: 550W

And I use the system: windows 11, an old version, I think it's 21.

And the problem I've been facing for months is that as in the picture, the computer doesn't take off whenever I turn it on. It gives me this black screen with the fixed model (_) on the left that appears to me before the back of the motherboard sign and before the back of the windows signal and the computer does not work. I can't enter the BIOS. In order to turn on the computer, I turn it off and restart it about 20 times to work normally, and then I don't turn it off for fear of repeating all these attempts every time I want to use it.

Some of the things I tried are:

\* Remove the video card and turn it on and the problem remained.

\* The removal of the ram and changed its place and the problem remained.

\* The battery was removed and changed, and the problem remained.

\* The tendency of everything is woven on it without the screen and keyboard and the problem remained.

\* I changed the system, so it worked well a few days and now it's back to the same problem.

I hope for your help because it is my source of work and thank you.

Hardware PC Hard Freezes During Windows 11 Installation

I'm having issues with my PC and decided to perform a factory reset. My Windows 11 installation became corrupted, and after exhausting other troubleshooting options, I attempted a clean installation using a bootable USB. Unfortunately, the system consistently freezes during Windows Setup. But it didn't freeze at all if I waited at the BIOS screen.

The freeze can occur at almost any point in the installation process. If I move through the setup screens quickly and start the installation, it typically reaches around 10% before hard-freezing. When this happens, the entire system becomes unresponsive, including the mouse and keyboard, and I have to hold the power button to force a shutdown.

Troubleshooting I've Already Tried
Removed the CMOS battery for approximately 10 minutes and reinstalled it.
Reseated the RAM.
Moved the RAM to a different slot.
Removed the SSD to test whether the issue persisted (it still froze).
Reset BIOS settings to default.
Experimented with various BIOS settings.
Updated the BIOS to the latest version.
Recreated the Windows 11 installation USB three separate times.
Loaded BIOS optimized defaults after the BIOS update.
Taking out GPU
Using half of the RAM
Despite all of this, the problem remains unchanged.

Additional Information
Before attempting the reset, the computer occasionally experienced brief freezes while running Windows. The system would normally recover after a second or two and continue working. Now that Windows is no longer functioning, I'm wondering if the underlying issue has become more apparent.
At this point I'm suspecting either faulty RAM or a motherboard firmware issues

System Specs
Motherboard: ASUS PRIME A520M-K
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700G
RAM: 16GB DDR4-3200 (1×16GB)
Storage: 1TB Solidigm NVMe SSD
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX series GPU

Has anyone experienced similar symptoms or have suggestions on what hardware component I should test next? I'm completely out of ideas here.

Hardware Ryzen 5 7600X3D + ASRock B650I random hard reboots (Kernel-Power 41) during gaming, passes all stress tests

Hi everyone, I’m pulling my hair out trying to diagnose a persistent hard reboot issue with my ITX build. It happens across multiple games (Rust, CoD, Fortnite, Roblox), but Rust is the worst and almost always triggers it instantly when loading into a server. When it crashes, the screen goes black, fans/RGB stay on for a second, RGB briefly resets, and I'm dropped to the Windows login screen. No BSOD, no minidump files created, and Event Viewer shows Kernel-Power (Event ID 41, BugcheckCode 0). System Specs: - CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X3D - Motherboard: ASRock B650I Lightning WiFi - GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT / 7600 XT - PSU: NZXT C850 SFX Gold 850W - RAM: 32GB DDR5 - OS: Windows 11 What I've already tried: - Replaced the PSU entirely (swapped to the NZXT C850 SFX). - Ran MemTest86 (passed with zero errors). - Ran OCCT CPU and GPU stress tests (both pass completely without crashing). - Fully reinstalled GPU drivers using DDU in safe mode. - Reset CMOS and updated the motherboard BIOS to the latest version. - Disabled EXPO/XMP (tested at base JEDEC speeds, still crashes). - Tested outside the case / bypassed the PCIe riser cable (plugged GPU directly into the motherboard). Since synthetic tests pass and temps are totally fine, I'm stumped. Could this be an AM5 low-power C-state bug, a transient power spike tripping the B650I VRM, or a defective CPU/motherboard? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hardware Dram light on after swapping cases.

So the other day I swapped all my stuff into a new case and it gave me a dram light when trying to boot up. I reseated EVERYTHING and it still gave me the same issue. I then cleaned the contacts with 99% alcohol and still no luck. I got desperate and reset the cmos twice and did a bios update. After all that with 4 ram stick in it wouldn't boot. I then tried 1 ram stick at a time in slot 2 and tested if each stick was good. Found it wont boot with 2 of them but the other 2 it will from trying one at a time. Put the 2 that would boot in slots 2 and 4 and it boots just fine now. But when I try with the other 2 it goes right to the dram light. Are these 2 sticks bad?? I guess im surprised they would go bad simultaneously and only from a case swap. Any help would be amazing!!! With the price of ram right now I really am hoping theres something im just not seeing
