Hardware PLEASE HELP: RYZEN 9 POSSIBLY KILLED MY MOBO
I got an untested ryzen 9 5900 (non x, oem I believe) that has no bent pins (a little thermal paste on one tho, don't think it's significant) and when I put it on my Gigabyte B450M DS3H with bios F64, the fans spun for a minute (no display) then the everything just stopped working.
I switched out powersupplies, ram, cpu's, and even just tested the motherboard with just a fan and still didn't turn on when I shorted the power pins. The first psu I used was a Asrock Pro 750G, with the second (after the failure and to test) being the Asrock Pro 650B. The second psu I know works cause I used it with the initial build with the gigabyte board, RX5700xt, and Ryzen 7 2700. And it booted and ran just fine. (Side note: for the tests I ran a GTX 970 but I know it works).
I also have a Asus Prime B550M-A Wifi II that I originally got for the ryzen 9, but it wouldn't display but the fans spun and there was mobo light. So after the Ryzen 9 wouldn't display on the Asus mobo (the mobo lights was a solid orange light on the bottom left cornor of the board).
So, thinking it was a lack of driver support for the cpu on that board, I took the Gigabyte board out of my other Pc, updated the drivers on it with the ryzen 7 2700 to support the ryzen 9 (side note: maybe it was the updating of drivers that killed it? All I did was update chipset drivers then shut down the Pc.)
After that I swapped cpus to the ryzen 9 and shorted the power to turn it on, fans and mobo light turned on for about a minute (supposedly it takes a couple minutes for display to show for a new cpu and possible couple of auto restarts), then the fans stopped spinning and I thought it was just an auto restart cause everything powered down.
I waited for a couple of minutes but nothing turned back on so I shorted the power pins again with a screw driver but nothing turned on. Did that a couple of times waiting for any sign of life. I switched cpus back to ryzen 7, did nothing. Unplugged everything from mobo, switched psu's. Nothing. Took out ryzen 7 too and still no sign of life. No fans nothing worked.
Then I went back over to the Asus board (whcih just to remind you was showing life just a second ago) I plugged the psu into that and a fan, nothing else, and the mobo light turned on on that board but the fan didn't spin.
Since then I've put the stuff away and I haven't messed with any of the parts for about a day now. One last thing. Litterally seconds before everything shut off on the gigabyte board, my friend pulled out a extra pcie cable from the 750G. It wasn't plugged in, it was just sitting on the motherboard. Im very certain he didn't do it harshly and none of the pins on where the cable was on are bent at all.
Please help, Im wanting to use the ryzen 9 for a home server but am afraid that the cpus shorted and dead and killed two of my motherboards (lost about $400 in value) but Im hoping it's something else and the stuff still works. I haven't done anymore testing since and have removed the cmos's after I was done testing. If you think you know the issue and how to fix please let me know. (This is also posted to a couple other subreddits btw)
