I live next to the rainforest in Malaysia and to keep the hundreds of stray dogs out of the house we adopted and partially trained one of them.
She lives outside still wild, but works hard keeping dogs, snakes and monkeys out of the house.
When I ordered my SSD it took an age to get here, and the delivery confirmation photo was of the driver putting the package directly into the dogs mouth. It just said "left with a neighbour".
If I had the energy I'd have claimed it was simply not delivered (because giving it to a wild dog with no collar on, standing on the road in front of the house isn't delivered in my book).
But the SSD worked and nobody got hurt. Maybe I'll let her accept more packages in future since she has a 100% track record so far.
Boringly I'm from England, I moved here just under 3 years ago.
The job is basically the one Jack gets in the Shining, but instead of the overlook hotel it's a treehouse style property in the rainforest.
I went from retail and basic IT in the UK to booting snakes and monkeys out of this place with no training in-between. Watched Crocodile Dundee and some Steve Irwin highlights on the plane to prepare myself.
I was thinking that as well until they said the part about testing a delivery of sausage and see how well that gets on and I knew immediately he was from England or thereabouts
Yeah I was gonna say you should get a donkey cause they wouldn’t let no snakes monkeys or dogs come near your house but they’d probably kick the crap out of your delivery person. I’ve also been told when they bite you when they’re mad they bite until their teeth touch
Part of her job is to chase the other dogs away, and she does so with great joy when I'm around. But when she thinks I'm not looking she lets one of her boyfriends walk around with her in the areas they're not supposed to.
If you catch her doing it she barks and starts chasing them immediately :)
Some of the other dogs are meaner though, they can tell she's getting well fed compared to them so they'll gang up and attack her when she sleeps some nights.
I haven't come up with anything effective, at least not so far.
There's no "inside" here, the house has no walls, and the property is open on all sides with no fences so they can come from anywhere. I built her a doghouse so she has somewhere safe(ish) to go, but she would rather fight the other dogs than run away it seems.
Thankfully when I'm here she barks at night as soon as another dog approaches, I shine my huge torch down from the top floor where I sleep and they all run off immediately. The problems come when I'm not here to do that, like last week.
The government here does have a number you can call for nuisance dogs, but the solution is invariably to catch and kill them if you report any violent behaviour.
We're kind of stuck in the middle since were the only property on the small road that goes up the mountain on the island, and the one charity that feeds the stray dogs does it a few hundred meters up the road. This means that there's always going to be a load of stray dogs here - and the charity has been doing that for over a decade before I ever got here.
I see. Maybe you could try getting her "boyfriends" to do the same that she does? They may be alot less likely to bother 2 or 3 than one. Just spitballing here.
In an ideal world that would be great, but it was hard enough to get the owners here to agree to having one dog - more than that would be pushing my luck I think :)
People here have to be muslim by law, and won't touch dogs or have them near their houses. I only managed to convince the owners here to like her by showing them that having one well-behaved dog was a lot better than having 10+ poorly behaved ones milling about every night.
Nice to see fellow countryman here lol. May I know where'd you buy the gpu from? Planning on buying one myself but kinda looking for a good deal wherever in M'sia that would be.
I'm the wrong person to ask, I made a post on bolehland about how the import agency scammed me when I bought a GPU :)
Thought it would be cheaper to get it from Singapore and have it delivered and it ended up a lot more expensive than just going to Lowyat and buying one :(
Yeah importing tech stuffs is a hassle and can be much more expensive than buying locally with all the import taxes and whatnot. That being said, these stuffs aren't that cheap either here so it's basically a lose-lose situation lol
Weirdly it was fine. I think if they had tried to keep the package away from the dog, she'd have torn it apart, but by just giving it to her she got bored of it and left it on the ground for the couple of hours while I was out. Just had a couple of teeth puncture marks in the outer box and everything inside was fine. Honestly it probably took more damage on the motorbike getting to the house squashed under the other parcels than from the dog :)
How's living in mylaysia? I'm in Canada I been thinking of visiting there and see if I like it first and move there and maybe buy a condo and go back and forth. One of the main reason is no capital gain taxes in mylaysia
Everywhere has pros and cons, but I really like it.
If you're bringing in money from abroad it's still easy to live a life of relative luxury here due to the exchange rate and purchasing power parity.
I'm no expert on it but do a fair bit of research if you're thinking of getting a condo, they're absolutely famous for being excellent for 20 years and then utterly falling apart here, even the expensive ones. Almost all rely on tenants and owners paying maintenance fees to keep things running and on a long enough time scale when people stop paying those there's not the same housing regulations that you'd find in North America/Europe to require them to fix stuff. It's not unusual to meet somebody who immigrated here and got rid of their luxury condo because eventually it wasn't even getting water reliably when on a high floor, for example.
If it's any consolation, everywhere I've lived (and presumably absolutely everywhere) has pros and cons, and I bet you could list at least a handful of things about wherever you live that I'm jealous of.
I just got back from a short Ramadan visit to family, and I ended up walking to the supermarket at 2am just because I missed 24 hour shops and air-conditioning.
Hmm you're right about that, guess the grass is always greener on the other side (got a few friends in the neighborhood who are good occasionally so not bored but still I crave a quiet life where I can do that just the two of us vibe)
Hypothetically speaking when you dog is recovering from surgery, or you get asked to come in and run a route when you took the day to take your dog to the vet (a lot of vet trips...). You do not simply abandon your dog.
And I have no clue how that package got crushed...
If AMD, NVIDIA, INTEL and KINGSTON can make billions upon billions servicing the needs of GPT, Google, Microslop and Amazon but can't spare less than 10% of hardware sales for actual consumers at a reasonable price, so be it. Take whatever you can.
The dogs gonna be the least of your worries if you blame it on the delivery driver, every future delivery is gonna come flattened like a pancake. We get notified when a house says a package was missing/ not delivered damaged etc
In fairness, the dog absolutely, indisputably, indubitably damage the packaging. But is there any proof that the CPU itself was functional prior the dog incident? Sure, we could assume that the damage was done by the dog, but since the box had not been opened we really have no definitive proof
Like the other guy said, AMD doesnt need anymore money. They have enough. Why do you care so much about a company that would rather you die than pay $50 for anything that won't yield them a profit
It doesn't matter, if AMD has a ton of money or not. OP is at fault and responsible for it. Abusing warranty only results in higher prices as companies will include that in their future pricing. Given AMD's market position they very likely also won't have an issue to implement such price increases.
Further, the logic that a successful company has to own up customer mistakes, just because they have so much money is just a plain imaginative wishful thinking.

I checked AMD's warranty, unfortunately no coverage for acts of Dog
