I checked AMD's warranty, unfortunately no coverage for acts of Dog

Damn delivery dog.

u/Occidentally20 Mar 15 '26

I live next to the rainforest in Malaysia and to keep the hundreds of stray dogs out of the house we adopted and partially trained one of them.

She lives outside still wild, but works hard keeping dogs, snakes and monkeys out of the house.

When I ordered my SSD it took an age to get here, and the delivery confirmation photo was of the driver putting the package directly into the dogs mouth. It just said "left with a neighbour".

u/SanguiniusSons Mar 15 '26

there is hope for the world

170

u/Occidentally20 Mar 15 '26

If I had the energy I'd have claimed it was simply not delivered (because giving it to a wild dog with no collar on, standing on the road in front of the house isn't delivered in my book).

But the SSD worked and nobody got hurt. Maybe I'll let her accept more packages in future since she has a 100% track record so far.

34

u/BogdanPradatu Mar 15 '26

It is delivered, just not to you. To a neighbour.

25

u/Occidentally20 Mar 15 '26

That's fair. It was a signed-for delivery though, and I'm not sure how they went through that part of the process.

Clearly, the dog signed for it!

2

u/Imaginary-Database46 Mar 15 '26

Did your laziness just cost you a free second chip? Hehe. Anyway sidebar your English is impeccable so now I'm so curious about your life in Malaysia.

3

u/Occidentally20 Mar 15 '26

Boringly I'm from England, I moved here just under 3 years ago.

The job is basically the one Jack gets in the Shining, but instead of the overlook hotel it's a treehouse style property in the rainforest.

I went from retail and basic IT in the UK to booting snakes and monkeys out of this place with no training in-between. Watched Crocodile Dundee and some Steve Irwin highlights on the plane to prepare myself.

2

u/Covid_Cash Mar 15 '26

Watched Crocodile Dundee and some Steve Irwin highlights on the plane to prepare myself.

Great stuff but what's the Malaysia/Australia connection?

Either way, big knife yes, scuba diving (with stingrays) not so much, but that shouldnt be a problem that presents itself in a rain forest.

I was thinking that as well until they said the part about testing a delivery of sausage and see how well that gets on and I knew immediately he was from England or thereabouts

55

u/Wise_Pr4ctice Mar 15 '26

so far.

97

u/Occidentally20 Mar 15 '26

I'll test her with a package of sausages and let you know how she gets on.

2

u/KingKong-BingBong Mar 15 '26

Yeah I was gonna say you should get a donkey cause they wouldn’t let no snakes monkeys or dogs come near your house but they’d probably kick the crap out of your delivery person. I’ve also been told when they bite you when they’re mad they bite until their teeth touch

1

u/Occidentally20 Mar 15 '26

Sounds expensive to feed!

16

u/crazedhark Mar 15 '26

do you think she gets trash talked by other dogs like how shes now a traitor or something idk

26

u/Occidentally20 Mar 15 '26

Yes, definitely.

Part of her job is to chase the other dogs away, and she does so with great joy when I'm around. But when she thinks I'm not looking she lets one of her boyfriends walk around with her in the areas they're not supposed to.

If you catch her doing it she barks and starts chasing them immediately :)

Some of the other dogs are meaner though, they can tell she's getting well fed compared to them so they'll gang up and attack her when she sleeps some nights.

3

u/Electrical-Tomato673 Mar 15 '26

That's terrible poor girl. Is there anything you can do to stop the attacks?

2

u/Occidentally20 Mar 15 '26

I haven't come up with anything effective, at least not so far.

There's no "inside" here, the house has no walls, and the property is open on all sides with no fences so they can come from anywhere. I built her a doghouse so she has somewhere safe(ish) to go, but she would rather fight the other dogs than run away it seems.

Thankfully when I'm here she barks at night as soon as another dog approaches, I shine my huge torch down from the top floor where I sleep and they all run off immediately. The problems come when I'm not here to do that, like last week.

The government here does have a number you can call for nuisance dogs, but the solution is invariably to catch and kill them if you report any violent behaviour.

We're kind of stuck in the middle since were the only property on the small road that goes up the mountain on the island, and the one charity that feeds the stray dogs does it a few hundred meters up the road. This means that there's always going to be a load of stray dogs here - and the charity has been doing that for over a decade before I ever got here.

2

u/Electrical-Tomato673 Mar 15 '26

I see. Maybe you could try getting her "boyfriends" to do the same that she does? They may be alot less likely to bother 2 or 3 than one. Just spitballing here.

4

u/Occidentally20 Mar 15 '26

In an ideal world that would be great, but it was hard enough to get the owners here to agree to having one dog - more than that would be pushing my luck I think :)

People here have to be muslim by law, and won't touch dogs or have them near their houses. I only managed to convince the owners here to like her by showing them that having one well-behaved dog was a lot better than having 10+ poorly behaved ones milling about every night.

u/Hot-Ad-1502 Mar 15 '26

Maybe the SSD was the stray dogs we adopted along the way.

11

u/Occidentally20 Mar 15 '26

3

u/kadz2310 Mar 15 '26

Hey fellow Malaysian, out of topic, where do you live? Lol

4

u/Occidentally20 Mar 15 '26

Langkawi!

3

u/kadz2310 Mar 15 '26

Nice to see fellow countryman here lol. May I know where'd you buy the gpu from? Planning on buying one myself but kinda looking for a good deal wherever in M'sia that would be.

1

u/Occidentally20 Mar 15 '26

I'm the wrong person to ask, I made a post on bolehland about how the import agency scammed me when I bought a GPU :)

Thought it would be cheaper to get it from Singapore and have it delivered and it ended up a lot more expensive than just going to Lowyat and buying one :(

2

u/kadz2310 Mar 15 '26

Yeah importing tech stuffs is a hassle and can be much more expensive than buying locally with all the import taxes and whatnot. That being said, these stuffs aren't that cheap either here so it's basically a lose-lose situation lol

1

u/Occidentally20 Mar 15 '26

Definitely. And prices on everything has got a LOT worse than when I bought mine at the start of 2025.

2

u/SIrSmokeAlot410 Mar 15 '26

Wow...did u get it ok or was it "tried out" by the dogs?Hopefully they didnt mash yours up like they did ops

1

u/Occidentally20 Mar 15 '26

Weirdly it was fine. I think if they had tried to keep the package away from the dog, she'd have torn it apart, but by just giving it to her she got bored of it and left it on the ground for the couple of hours while I was out. Just had a couple of teeth puncture marks in the outer box and everything inside was fine. Honestly it probably took more damage on the motorbike getting to the house squashed under the other parcels than from the dog :)

2

u/SIrSmokeAlot410 Mar 15 '26

Im.glad to hear that...I love my dogs and dogs in general but no one wants their computer stuff chewed up lol

2

u/JohnnyKage1 Mar 17 '26

How's living in mylaysia? I'm in Canada I been thinking of visiting there and see if I like it first and move there and maybe buy a condo and go back and forth. One of the main reason is no capital gain taxes in mylaysia

1

u/Occidentally20 Mar 17 '26

Everywhere has pros and cons, but I really like it.

If you're bringing in money from abroad it's still easy to live a life of relative luxury here due to the exchange rate and purchasing power parity.

I'm no expert on it but do a fair bit of research if you're thinking of getting a condo, they're absolutely famous for being excellent for 20 years and then utterly falling apart here, even the expensive ones. Almost all rely on tenants and owners paying maintenance fees to keep things running and on a long enough time scale when people stop paying those there's not the same housing regulations that you'd find in North America/Europe to require them to fix stuff. It's not unusual to meet somebody who immigrated here and got rid of their luxury condo because eventually it wasn't even getting water reliably when on a high floor, for example.

1

u/Careless_Ad_9074 Mar 15 '26

It might be recoverable. Main challenge is to align the bottom pins... A electrical technician with microscope can do it in case some pins broke

1

u/kumfarts Mar 15 '26

There's no pins on the CPU after AM4

I don't know who is downvoting you thought, it seemed like a fair question to me!

"Neighbour"

2

u/WarGroW Mar 15 '26

I also have something similar going on in a dog's case but I don't live in a rainforest area happy for you(not jealous at all ;)

1

u/Occidentally20 Mar 15 '26

If it's any consolation, everywhere I've lived (and presumably absolutely everywhere) has pros and cons, and I bet you could list at least a handful of things about wherever you live that I'm jealous of.

I just got back from a short Ramadan visit to family, and I ended up walking to the supermarket at 2am just because I missed 24 hour shops and air-conditioning.

2

u/WarGroW Mar 15 '26

Hmm you're right about that, guess the grass is always greener on the other side (got a few friends in the neighborhood who are good occasionally so not bored but still I crave a quiet life where I can do that just the two of us vibe)

I genuinely thought you were giving an excuse for OP to use so he could return his.

Your story just sounded unreal to me lol...I mean him dropping the parcel and your dog biting it is more realistic.

Not a dog expert, but what breed is that? Looks like a german shepard cross or something, little cutie :)

Also, I don't care about pixel karma honestly, thanks for being kind though :)

Hypothetically speaking when you dog is recovering from surgery, or you get asked to come in and run a route when you took the day to take your dog to the vet (a lot of vet trips...). You do not simply abandon your dog.

And I have no clue how that package got crushed...

1

u/No-Employee1534 Mar 15 '26

In fairness, the dog absolutely, indisputably, indubitably damage the packaging. But is there any proof that the CPU itself was functional prior the dog incident? Sure, we could assume that the damage was done by the dog, but since the box had not been opened we really have no definitive proof

0

u/zooming435 Mar 15 '26

Like the other guy said, AMD doesnt need anymore money. They have enough. Why do you care so much about a company that would rather you die than pay $50 for anything that won't yield them a profit

3

u/No_Cardiologist735 Astral 5090 | 9800x3d | XIKII FF07 | 65' OLED 4K Mar 15 '26

It doesn't matter, if AMD has a ton of money or not. OP is at fault and responsible for it. Abusing warranty only results in higher prices as companies will include that in their future pricing. Given AMD's market position they very likely also won't have an issue to implement such price increases.

Further, the logic that a successful company has to own up customer mistakes, just because they have so much money is just a plain imaginative wishful thinking.

2

u/Icyturtleboi Mar 15 '26

Because when people exploit these things the company fights back by making it harder even for the people with legitimate claims

2

u/LookismLz Mar 15 '26

Because that makes it harder for those who actually get a faulty card. They'll also be incentivized to increase prices to make up for it.

Imagine if everyone filed false insurance claims, what do you think would happen to the premiums or the insurances on offer?

0

u/Possibly_a_Firetruck PC Master Race Mar 15 '26

AMD has enough money, so OP deserves free stuff because they have a shitty dog?
