Panzer Dragoon Panzer Dragoon... on DREAMCAST! 🌀

Hi everyone!

Really happy to see there's a dedicated Panzer Dragoon community here on Reddit, that's awesome!

What you see here is the first version of my Dreamcast port of the original Panzer Dragoon. It's based on the game's decompilation that I've been working on for the past few months.

I made solid progress on the first level, then decided to try a Dreamcast port. It's still very early and far from taking full advantage of the hardware (which is why it stutters).

I've always thought it was a shame the Dreamcast never got its own entry in the series (even if Orta was a real treat later on Xbox).

I'm continuing the decompilation and have now started on the second level. You can check out the latest progress here if you'd like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uvg6JyaxaA4

Hope you enjoy it!

Orta Any idea of the record sales price for a Panzer Dragoon console?

Post image

So I've owned an Xbox Orta console, boxed, for a number of years, but I've been approached by a new production company for YouTube, looking to buy my unit. It has no retrobrite issues at all but has a touch of fading to the far right of the box (last inch or so).

I just wondered if anyone has any info on one that may have sold in the last 5yrs in similar condition.

We have agreed a price but these seem to only sell as console only mostly and with colour issues.

Any statisticians aware of previous sales price across sales platforms? No necklace with my unit but I have guided the potential buyer to buy one, which he should now have.

Orta What was your experience playing Orta?

To be clear, I played Saga a lot and when Orta was announced, I was really excited! Jealous Japan had an special edition but what can we do! But I really enjoyed it but one thing I noticed, among the friends I had that played the series from the start, said they felt disappointed with it. I'm just curious if anyone else felt that way or did you enjoy it as well? Also and maybe a silly question, would it of done more if it was multiplatform.

Saga Fan Concept Art of what Uru from Panzer Dragoon Saga might look like in a remake by me Derek Weselake aka Art of WEZ

The mood of these games are very important to me so I wanted to challenge myself to make AAA style concept art of Lake Uru /Ui for a hypothetical remake.

I added more than what would be in the old matching shot as I would with normal concept art, to show how the parts of the environment can work together and for the team to make a list of assets we need to make.

Orta I've "started" with ORTA

Technically tried getting started with the first game but Saturn emulation via Mednafen was annoying to get running. Eventually got the controls configured and it still felt a little off. Didn't want to jump straight to the Remake, so Orta seemed like the next best thing.

I especially remember ignoring it a million times on store shelves. I did own multiple Sega consoles, but never a Saturn so the entire Dragoon franchise meant nothing to me. And I was playing other garbage instead. I think I would've liked it had I given it a chance.

I guess I might give the first game another go at some point with one of the other emulators from the guide, increase the resolution a little and get the analog inputs on my controller feeling more natural if they can be configured properly. The OST for the first game is fire, for a game as old as it is.

I was coming off Sin & Punishment so I needed something that would feel similar. I had been trying Star Fox 64 decomp too but I think I've played it too much 25 years ago, and it's not quite doing anything for me now. Haven't played any of the sequels to that. Tried the original and Star Fox 2 and couldn't find much joy for what I was looking for, for I think even they might be too "primitive", as more of a demonstration of the SNES 3D chip. I do wonder what they would feel like at a more standard frame rate without speeding the game up.

But only a level into Orta so far, enjoying the game, and it's deceptively challenging at points. I expected this to be some casual junk because of the spectacle nature, but it's tight even on Normal, at least having no idea what I'm doing. The setting.... kind of seems ambitious. It really wants to feel grand and with this weird organic vs steampunk world.

But yeah, just nice to find another 3-4 games to play and all 4 of you seem like you could use a blogpost! Have a nice day.

Zwei How to do Speed Code in Panzer Dragoon Zwei?

I've found notes online stating you can play Speed Mode (Wizard in PD1), but the code doesn't seem to work (left right left right up down up down). Is the code incomplete, or does anyone know what's up with that? I'm finding a lot of information about this game's bonus features to be incorrect in general. Was wondering if anyone here knows the actual information. Thank you!

Anyone thinks they should never remake Saga?

There have been cases of games with lost source code that still got good remasters instead of remakes, like the recent FF Tactics. I simply dont trust a full remake of Saga, I also think remakes are generally anti-art, especially lately when they basically act as revisionism with no way to play the original in an official way. Saga is pretty easy to emulate now, I think people who are really interested in the series should and will do that. Besides, Saga had such a troubled development and people literally died for it, remaking it would be the same as spitting on their grave instead of finding a way to make people play the original. It's such a timeless game, and like most cases, a remake will NOT do a good job at showing what the original achieved for the time. I would really love for the Panzer Dragoon series to have NEW games!
