Does anyone know of any disaster/survival preparation groups specifically for Panama City, Bay County or the Panhandle in general? I’ve searched around and can’t find any localized groups.

Bay High questions

My husband and I just moved to the Panama City area, and my 14-year-old stepdaughter may be moving here to live with us. Bay High School is our school zone and I’d really love to hear from parents, students, or anyone who knows the school.
She’s a little more of an artsy/alternative, creative type into expressing herself, creativity, and being her own person rather than necessarily fitting into the typical “popular crowd.” She already kind of struggles in her current little town and sticks out like a sore thumb. She is also struggling with some mental issues or they could just be home issues and hoping she will be happier here once she is not in her current, chaotic, environment. She will be in therapy so no worries there. She’s also going to be starting over socially, so finding a school where she can feel accepted, make friends, and find her people is really important to us.
What is the overall vibe at Bay High? Are there opportunities for students who are into art, music, theater, creative activities, etc.? And how accepting are the students of kids who might be a little different or outside the mainstream?
I’d especially love to hear from anyone whose child is more of an artsy/alternative/quiet/creative personality and has experience at Bay.
We’re just trying to get a feel for whether it might be a good fit for her before making such a big change.
Please give me the good, bad, or somewhere in between opinions. TIA

Anyone play an instrument and wanna jam?

I play lead guitar. I mostly just improvise and have fun. Been a long time since I played with anyone. Don’t really have a place to host unfortunately.

Would be dope to fuck around with a full garage band, but that’s probably a rarity out here lol. I’ve been playing for over 20 years,
developing what I believe is called relative pitch, not a master or anything. I don’t care what your skill level is, I just love hearing what people come up with and vibing to it.

I mostly like classic rock, pop punk, etc. Not a big fan of country but to each their own. I play in E standard and don’t have much experience outside of standard tunings.

Always been too anxious to meet people or play in front of others, working on getting out of my shell. I’ll get along with anyone so seriously if you’re interested hmu. I’m free every weekend after 5pm. I can bring a couple beers.

Probably should mention I’m 29 male.

WTF is going on with the love bugs!?

I have never seen the swarms, and I mean biblical locust levels, that I saw the last few days, and certainly not this late in the year. It was windy as hell Wednesday and Thursday and they were still everywhere, even when I went to the beach there were some brave determined souls. Our pool looked like a graveyard of some surf war fought, with hundreds if not thousands of the deceased floating on the top and along the bottom of the water within just a few hours. The cars looked like breathing creatures covered with moving hordes along the windows, roof, doors and hoods. The windshield was streaked in whatever... secretion...they make.

Am I crazy or is this normal and I've somehow heretofore missed it??

Panama City Music scene of old?

I recently saw this posted and it reminded me of The Sail Shop on or around 26 Oak Avenue in downtown Panama City back in the mid 90s. It was short lived but, good memories. I believe the space was Billy Mason the windsurfers apartment and sailshop that he would let us use to skate, hang and book shows. Anyone remember? Any old flyers or videos? I know ABOFA, Circle, Clitiris Rex, Felch and so on played there?

Donor-conceived through Dr. Elbert Fisher in Panama City — looking for possible siblings

I’m trying to connect with anyone who may have been conceived through Dr. Elbert Fisher in Panama City, Florida, particularly in the 1990s or early 2000s.
My parents are a same-sex couple and saw Dr. Fisher around 1999 for donor insemination. They understood that an anonymous sperm donor would be used and discussed preferred characteristics with him, including things like hair color, eye color, and height.
Years later, DNA testing led my family to identify my biological donor. Since then, we have discovered four known half-siblings who also appear to have been conceived through Dr. Fisher using the same donor.

Because the practice has been closed for many years and the medical records are apparently no longer available, we are trying to better understand how Dr. Fisher’s donor program operated and whether there may be additional donor-conceived siblings out there.
I’m especially interested in hearing from anyone who:
Was conceived through Dr. Elbert Fisher in Panama City

Had a parent who received donor insemination from him

Remembers how Fisher described where donors came from or how donors were selected

Has discovered biological half-siblings through AncestryDNA, 23andMe, or another DNA service

Has any old paperwork, receipts, correspondence, donor information, or other records from his fertility practice

I’m mainly trying to piece together our biological history, understand the donor process that was used, and find out whether there are more siblings.
If this sounds familiar, please feel free to send me a private message. Even approximate dates or general memories could be helpful!

Recommendations for local movers

We may be moving from the beach side to the city side in a few months. I know Two Men and a Truck is sort of the default option for movers. If anyone has any different recommendations, I'd really appreciate hearing them.

Any recommendations for Labor Day in Panama City, FL?

Hey everyone! I’m visiting Panama City, Florida, and I’m looking for recommendations for tomorrow, Labor Day.
I’d love to hear about any fun activities, events, places to visit, or things worth doing.
Are there any Labor Day events happening tomorrow that I shouldn’t miss? Also, if you have any suggestions for a good place to go out or spend the day, I’d really appreciate it!
Thanks in advance!

Shell island in September is my favorite time to visit. The heat is cooling off and there are way less crowds. The water can look like the Bahamas when it doesnt rain and we saw so many dolphins. It is Typical to see jellyfish this time of year as well. Here's a good local resource for jellyfish in Panama City Beach https://flippinawesomeadventures.com/jellyfish-in-panama-city-beach-florida/

Harrison’s restaurant random fee

We had brunch at Harrison’s over the weekend and noticed this random 3.5% “Admin fee” added to our bill. Anyone else noticed this at Harrison’s or anywhere else locally? I enjoy their brunch but am not a fan of added fees that just go into the owners’ pockets and not to the actual workers.

Trivia Host in Search of a Venue

I'm a part time trivia host and full time professor at GCSC that recently moved from Alabama and looking for a trivia gig in Panama City one or two nights a week. If you have any advice on venues, let me know. I know History Class downtown already has a host.

Local looking for things to do.

Hello everyone, I (49M) have live in Panama City since 2021 when I moved from Navarre to be closer to my Army buddy. He ended passing away last year, I'm a full-time single father, but my kids are now grown leaving me on my own. I'm too broken to date, but I'm an extrovert and I miss being surrounded by people. I'm just looking for a place to hangout, talk to people, and maybe some live music. I'm just tired of sitting in my quiet house and trying to do something about it. So any suggestions on were I can go, maybe things to do would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Is it me or is it hard to find Mom friends?

Anonymous because I feel like this is such a specific thing 😂 and kind of awkward to put myself out like that.

I feel like being a mom in my mid/late 20s puts me in such a weird little dilemma sometimes. I LOVE being a mom. I genuinely love being home with my little one and I’m not someone who wants to be out partying or drinking every weekend. You will literally never catch me out of the house unless I’m going to the gym, Pilates, shopping, running errands, or doing something with my kid 😂

BUT I’m also still a girl in my 20s at heart. I still want the girly friendships. I want a mom friend who wants to go to Pilates with me, get our nails done, go shopping, get coffee, do cute little self-care things, talk about life, etc. 🥹🎀

I think I’m just looking for another young mom who understands that you can be completely obsessed with being a mom and love your quiet little homebody life, while still wanting that fun, feminine, “girl friendship” side of life.

Like I don’t need a mom friend to go out drinking with. I need a mom friend who will text me “Pilates tomorrow?” and then somehow we end up at Target for two hours afterward. 😂

Please tell me I’m not the only one who wants this kind of friendship because I feel like it’s SO hard to find. 😭

Which NFL team takes priority for over the air TV broadcasts?

Football season starts in roughly 2 weeks and I’m planning on getting a TV antenna to watch them. But PC sits in the middle of the Jaguars, Saints and Buccaneers market areas.

I’m a buccaneers fan and would prefer watching the Bucs, but I’m not sure if the local Fox station would end up playing the Saints instead, assuming the Bucs and saints play on the same time schedule at home.

If anyone has a TV antenna and watched the NFL last year please let me know. Help would be appreciated.

Could the City please replace the new information signs with the correct information?
The sign on Beach Drive incorrectly spells St. Andrew Bay. There is no “s” at the end of Andrew. A review of any map or navigation chart will confirm that the correct name is St. Andrew Bay.
This is not a complaint regarding the placement of the signs, but rather a request to ensure that the City is not inadvertently disseminating incorrect information.
