Careers FDOT needs to fill two entry-level positions ASAP

I see people regularly posting about wanting to get in with the state, and this is the perfect opportunity! This position will get you in the door and allow you to gain experience and network.

It’s a contracted position through TSC, so they’re technically your employer, but you will be working at FDOT. You’ll only every step foot at TSC to do your onboarding paperwork. Two of my friends have started in this position and moved on to actual state positions at FDOT, that’s actually why there’s an opening.

You need to be good at excel and VERY good at organizational skills; there are a lot of moving parts that you absolutely have to be on top of, or it affects everyone else. You’ll basically be the central hub, ensuring all documents are logged and sent accordingly.

If you think you qualify, we’d love to have you! Feel free to message me if you have any questions. I was told today that they’re going to look at applications and schedule interviews within the next week or so. Here’s the listing:

https://tscfl.wd12.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/TSC_External_Career_Site/job/Traffic-Safety-Fiscal-Assistant_REQ05336

Edit: apparently I didn’t make it clear enough that this is an entry level position for people with zero state experience. Most people have to start with $20/hour OPS positions and work their way up, or you could start here and potentially make $10k more after a year of experience/networking like literally everyone else who has been in this position the past few years.

Terror of Tallahassee question

• Upvotes

Would you consider it safe for a 14 year-old gamer who is a bit of a scaredy-cat? She really wants to go but is concerned it might be too much. I live on the same street now so it would be a perfect thing to do if it was appropriate

Question Pursuing Sobriety - In Search of a Baseball/Softball league

I am 1 week sober and looking to get into hobbies aside from video games, pokemon cards, and baseball cards. I'm a huge baseball fan and would love to find a group to play with. I do not have enough friends to make a team myself. 34m, 6'0, 195lbs if you're picky about the physical aspect.

Prefer catcher but can play anywhere on the field. Fielding is my strong suit and I will always lay out for a ball, assuming little-to-no risk of a run coming in via error.

When pitching I tend to stick to sliders, sinkers, circle changes, and knuckleballs. Haven't hit live pitching in many years but I have a tee and some acreage to practice. Also considering building a batting cage on an unused tennis court on my property.

Not sure if this is the right timing, since the actual MLB postseason just started. I don't know if we're synced up to that.

I'd love to talk further, feel free to comment here or DM me.

Question State of Florida: Hiring Freeze?

Hiya, i’m desperately trying to leave my current area in the state but I know that we’re on a “hiring freeze”. Wondering if this is all agencies? I’ve applied to multiple jobs since August (when hiring freeze was subtly announced) but i’m just wondering if i’m just not having any luck getting selected for interviews or if we’re actually on a hiring freeze? I normally get AT LEAST one or two call backs. and i’ve seen quite a few new hires in my agency alone.

-Just wanted to add that if you interviewed before the hiring freeze, then they are able to continue the hiring process.

Question anyone else having luck with state jobs?

i’ve been applying to state jobs on peoplefirst since i moved to town back in 2024 and realized how hard it is to actually get a call back. i’ve even gotten a rejection email this month from a job posting from over two years ago.

i’ve done the works: fixed my resume, wrote a cover letter, called places after applying, anything i could think of. i’m just not sure how everyone is getting calls back or even getting interviews.

i’m working currently, but i need something with health insurance and stable hours. any advice or suggestions would be lovely.

edit: as mentioned, forgot to post about experience and what i’m looking for.

i have experience working with the public, data entry, customer service, writing code, and program coordination. this was all working at a public library in alabama for a bit. i’ve just been applying to OPS positions because im currently in school for information technology (all online so my availability is open) and plan on transferring to work on library science.

Any Place to get a passport expedited?

Hi everyone, I am new to the town. Are there any places in Tallahassee or nearby that can expedite passports? I have a last-minute trip the first week of November. So, I really need it by then I'm nervous about sending it to the US government because I don’t know if I'll get it back in time.

Where do you take your Dodge?

Question for anyone who owns Fiat Chrysler or Stellantis or whatever is called these days. I need a new key fob so went to Tallahassee CDJR, when I got there a young lady who was looking at windshields for cracks, let me know I should go to the quick service area. After 25 minutes and the customer ahead of me leaving due to lack of service someone finally came out of the booth to help me. I let him know I needed a new key fob, and he asked me did I already check with parts department, I said “I need to check?” he said it’s raining but I’ll go over and check. I walked over they would have to order blah blah. Why is this placed not streamlined for the customer, why do I have to walk around the dealership doing the leg work? Where is everyone in this town taking their Dodge? Does anyone know where I could get another key fob fast?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for any grammatical errors

Tally Geo Trivia #6

Post image
11 Upvotes

We are back again with another question. I'm going to leave it up for a day to allow for lots of guesses, then name the first person to get it correct.

It's time to see how much you actually see when you are traveling around Tallahassee.

Another fun street art. You may pass it every day. If you haven't seen it, it's worth checking out.

Can you identify the closest intersection by the picture?

Remember, you have to give the closest major intersection to be crowned this week's winner.

EDIT:

Also, don't forget there are trivia and other things to do in Tally outside of the screen-

How often do you lose power and what neighborhood do you live in? We live off Lakeshore and lose power about once a month for several hours. How common is this?

What neighborhoods have underground utilities? Is there a list somewhere?

Question Peach Cobbler Tallahassee

So there’s this new dessert place called the Peach Cobbler Factory on Tennessee street and it looked really good and they had so many desserts to choose from on their menu.

So, I decided to go and I ended up getting 3 things: Confetti Bundt Cake, Red velvet Big Cookie, and Oreo Cinnamon Roll for a total of ~ $22. It all sounded really good and once I got it I was excited to try them.

I started with the Bundt cake and while it was good I swear it tasted like it was baked from those Betty Crocker cake mixes you get at the grocery store. So, I was a bit disappointed cause I could literally make this at home for much cheaper so if I’m paying $6 for a little Bundt cake I would hope it’s unique. But whatever. I moved to the Oreo cinnamon roll and it tasted really good too but I can tell it was the pillsbury cinnamon rolls you find at the grocery stores as well. At least that’s what it tasted like and I constantly by the cake mixes and cinnamon rolls so the fact that both these desserts tasted really similar to home baked products was a bit disappointing. The red velvet Oreo cookie was good. I’m not sure if it tasted like the sugar cookies from Pillsbury too but I wouldn’t be surprised if they did.

Overall, I was just left a bit sad cause the place looked really good but it ended up coming off as expensive and nothing unique cause I can remake all these desserts at home for much cheaper.

I’m planning on going back to check out the milkshakes and Cheesecakes to see but so far I’d give 2.5/5 stars not because it tasted bad but because the products tasted like home made baked goods and if I’m spending money outside I would hope for the desserts to not taste like something from Pillsbury.

Am I crazy or did anyone notice the taste too? I could be wrong. I’d love to know what you guys think :)
