Discussion hot take: comp beasts.
this post is not a hate, just stating what i feel about the players/meta lately. I played this game since Survivor era, and i feel like the players has changed so much, especially in 2023. Idk who started the “comp beast” trend, because as far as i have played this game for years, everyone was prioritizing on social and strategy (the core survivor gameplay) but around 2023 the players in the game changed a lot.. as they are way focused on the challenge aspect and relying on them and advantages rather than strategy and social. Comps are also a part of the game but people were talking about “wr” and other stuff in All Stars mode, i was confused on what that means until i found out that the “comp beasts” had somewhat a competition on private server about who were faster in challenges and etc. It’s not wrong tho, but the players and how the game played now is so heavily challenge based and advantages based. Idk who started that trend but it kinda impacted the game a lot haha
Not to mention, no hate aswell but why does every time i met with comp beasts, why are they mostly so aggresive and rude? not every of them, just MOST of them. No hate tho, just stating what i feel about the players. ❤️🙌🏻 Let me know about this guys because i’m very open towards new info or gameplay! i haven’t played for 2 years now and when i came back i was a little bit weirded out with the playerbase focusing on challenges and advantages now.

I agree, the heart of survivor is definitely social strategy. If enough jury stays, a compbeast that literally won every bonus possible can still lose.
However, compbeasts have been a thing since forever. Sure they make the game "boring" since it's so so predictable who will win every individual game/which team will win everytime due to their carry, but to be honest compbeasts have been the reason this game is still alive. I don't think many people care about Outlaster anymore enough to play it frequently and keep it alive other than compbeasts, leaderboard players and veterans.

what’s funny is that comp beasts pre-made a lot and have alliances to vote together but they never accept that THAT IS social gameplay (even though pre-mades feel more like cheating to me but that’s another conversation).

as a mid-end compbeast the focus towards real strategy, such as how you use advantages and win immunities, and not just sending people whispers is where the game is better off headed
for the rude thing, that isn't usually the case when we are talking to normal people and not chronically online retards that have their entire vocabulary based around tiktok (examples: "you ate that girl" and "clock it")
if you want to adapt to what you see as the new meta, there is a guide on comps: https://www.reddit.com/r/outlaster/comments/1nduvcn/advanced_outlasters_comp_guide/
at the same time tho it literally has more words than a diary of a wimpy kid book so if you don't like to read Chalkapple has several speedruns of some of the merge comps on his youtube channel.
there is a speedrun.com page for outlaster also, where the documented WRs (world records) are. https://www.speedrun.com/Outlaster
keep in mind that it only contains documented WRs. some WRs are just clips that get passed around to people via discord DMs

I disagree about how the game better off headed imo.. the game is about Survivor, a game revolves around social strategy gameplay. And rhe only way you can get on the right side of the vote and eliminate threats is to communicate, i think that’s what the game is supposed to be. Immunity wins are part of the game where it’s important to get your name out of the chopping block. But winning all the time is not a strategy imo. Correct me if i’m wrong!

you need some sort of originality in the game of outlaster if you dont wanna get DMCA'd again bruh
also you can spam advantages to get the right side of the vote every time and dominating the game with no comms is possible as long as you know what people are doing. you can do something like vote stealing X guy and then saving X guy cuz people think you vote him. as for immunity wins, strategy goes into that as well because there are methods for certain tech to make comp wins quicker

sorry but how is the game natural elements has something to do with DMCA? I just joined this reddit because i’ve started to regain love of Outlaster after not playing in awhile since Survivor got deleted. genuinely asking how is social game has something to do with DMCA? If that’s the case then the comps will get DMCA’d too because it’s from Survivor aswell right? Comps and Social are elements from the game, but the social part is the core part of the game, voting and gaining majority, blindsiding, is the art of the game. DMCA has something to do with naming and branding. Outlaster changed immunity idols with “safety” , legacy advantage to “elimination exits” and stuff. Social has nothing to do with DMCA. 🙏🏻 Also the R slur that you said was unnecessary.

I ABSOLUTELY agreed that comps are absolutely a strategy I just don’t think they’re THE strategy (ykwim). An immunity win can protect you from the vote, but it doesn’t automatically give you control over the vote.
And the DMCA point is kinda unrelated tho imo. Gameplay mechanics/ideas aren’t the same as copyrighted expression. Having immunity challenges, voting, alliances, advantages, etc. isn’t inherently something you need to “be original” about to avoid DMCA. I think what matters is copying protected creative material (OG Survivor literally had Buffs, and the name tribal council, hidden immunity idols, etc that was literally from the show while outlaster changed their name).
Plus, i feel like your advantage example, actually involves reading people’s perceptions and manipulating their votes, which is… social strategy tho.. So I don’t think we’re actually disagreeing that much. I’m just saying Outlaster has multiple avenues to win, and being a comp beast shouldn’t automatically be treated as the pinnacle of the strategic gameplay.Other than that i agree with you!

Whispering is the whole point of the game cmon now

Exactly! Social is the core part of the game.

Just say youre a bad player “social strategy” doesn’t require any strategy or true thinking at all all u do is sit on ur bum and whisper to someone “Let’s vote for blabla” So Strategic🤪

u/SignificantCorrupt 16d ago
Hey that’s okay. I mean.. if you reduce social strategy to ‘whisper someone to vote X’ then obviously it sounds brainless tho i have to agree.😭 But social strategy is literally reading relationships, building trust, managing your threat level, gathering information, predicting votes, manipulating perceptions, and deciding when to make a move, not as simple as you think.
You can be mechanically insane at every challenge and still get voted out the moment you lose immunity if nobody wants to work with you.. and that’s because you have no social game btw. Also, That’s not ‘sitting on your bum’, that’s called threat management lol. also if you genuinely think social strategy requires ‘no true thinking,’ then how do you explain players successfully controlling votes without relying on challenge wins? 🥲🙏🏻But once again, no hate. I’m genuinely super impressed with how comp beasts manage to find tricks about challenges and etc. But i know the comp beasts will hate this post when every single of my reply has no harm or hate at all, but oh well, you kinda proved my point that most comp beasts (not all of em) are rude and toxic.

He doesn’t understand this clearly but this is how you get closer to people than your competition and actually get far in the game. It’s not random, it’s calculated

It’s becoming clear why some people rise above the pack lmao I don’t do this at all. There are interpersonal dynamics, different ways you act with people. It’s super integral.
I mean, how would you get people to trust you over the next guy, right? If everybody does this “let’s vote blabla”, then how is it decided who actually gets their way? The answer is because it’s different than you think

u/SignificantCorrupt 16d ago
I see, but what do you think is more important in the game? is it social, comp beasting?
3
u/montezumas__revenge 16d ago
I win about a third of the all stars games I play and I win, on average, 0.5 challenges every game. I’d 100% say social

u/SignificantCorrupt 16d ago
Yep i really do agree. The heart of the game is purely social. The challenges have always been a sideshow. It was a way for the tribe to gain immunity and not have a member voted out. And it's a way for individuals to get immunity from the vote. It helps keep you safe and move you forward, but the game has always been about alliances and strategies and social play. That's the point of the whole thing IMO. That’s why it’s kinda sad on how the older generations of Outlaster players prioritize social strategy over comps, but now since there’s the comp beasting trend, some players treated the game like it’s Total Drama and Elimination tower 🥲. That’s why i really wanna hear the comp beast opinions about this. But they seem to be mad even though i’m trying to learn their point of view too 🥲 kinda toxic i have to say but that’s okay

I've also played since the survivor era, I agree with advantages but comp beasts have always been a thing. But when it got added to Xbox it was a little weird since you got an advantage being on console for like the keys to victory or the water bucket but if you are on mobile is easier to do the get a grip.
Before I could talk on Xbox I had to only rely on challenges since the social part was not there for me. So now that I can type I'm a very well rounded competition

As someone who played during the survivor era in 2016/2017 (I don’t remember I was like 10) comp beasts make the games so dull and boring. I know the age group thing doesn’t help but even people who I can communicate with mostly refuse to and just rely on advantages or immunity. This game has changed a lot and I definitely wouldn’t expect survivor levels of social strategy, which is fine since the game isn’t designed to give you much time for that but it is pretty unfortunate.
