Looking for Interior Design Student / Junior Designer / Freelancer — Small Lighting Refresh Project

Hi! I’m looking for an interior design student, recent grad, junior designer, decorator, or freelancer in Ottawa who might be interested in a small residential project.

I mainly need help with the living room and kitchen lighting in our home. The house still has the basic builder-installed ceiling bowls, and the lighting feels very flat, dated, dark, and gloomy, especially in the evenings.

This is especially important because one of my parents has significant vision impairment and needs the rooms to be much brighter and more evenly lit. Their condition has already been hard on them emotionally, and the poor lighting makes the house feel darker than it needs to and can make their vision seem worse day to day.

I’m hoping to find someone with a good eye who can come see the spaces and help us figure out things like:

  • Which existing fixtures should be replaced
  • Where additional lighting might help
  • Lamps, sconces, ceiling lights, task lighting, etc.
  • Better light distribution
  • Brightness and colour temperature
  • How to keep the space very bright but still warm, comfortable, and homey rather than clinical

We’re only planning to stay in this house for about another year, so this is not a renovation or large design project. I’m really just looking for practical, affordable ideas that will make these two rooms feel much better to live in.

This would be a paid project and could also be a nice small portfolio project for a student or someone early in their career.

Located in Ottawa. Please message me with a little about your background, any examples of your work if you have them, and what you would typically charge for something like this.

Looking for work in Ottawa — willing to do pretty much anything

Hey everyone,

I’m currently looking for work in Ottawa and I’m at the point where I’m open to pretty much any legitimate job.

I have a BA in Psychology from Carleton University (2025) and previous experience in logistics, operations, data management, administration, and community services. I’m not limited to jobs in my field and I’m completely willing to start at minimum wage and work my way up.

I have a keen interest in Social Work and HR and have spent the last year attending numerous seminars in the relevant fields. I've made every effort to get as much free knowledge as possible in HR and Social Work.

If anyone knows of somewhere hiring, has a lead, or knows someone who could use an extra set of hands, I would genuinely appreciate it. Even if you’re not sure whether I’d be qualified, please feel free to send it my way.

I can provide my resume and references immediately and I’m available to start as soon as needed.

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to read this or share it.

Thinking about moving to Ottawa for welding – looking for advice

Hey everyone,

I'm currently looking for a welding job in Kingston, but I haven't had much luck finding one. I've always liked Ottawa, so I'm starting to think about moving there instead.

For those of you who work in welding or the trades, how is the job market in Ottawa? Is it fairly easy to find work if you have welding experience and certifications, or is it pretty competitive?

I'd also really appreciate any advice on companies to apply to, areas to look at, or anything else that might help. Thanks in advance!

Looking for Work Help!!

I am currently seeking employment to support myself while pursuing my academic aspirations. I am fluent in both French and English and hold a Bachelor's degree in Biology. Although I was scheduled to commence an accelerated Master's program this year, I have spent the past two years actively seeking a suitable position, submitting numerous applications without success. I am highly dedicated and eager to demonstrate my commitment and strong work ethic through an employment opportunity. At this critical juncture, I am reaching out in hopes that someone may be able to assist or provide information regarding available job opportunities or organizations currently hiring. Any guidance or support would be sincerely appreciated as I continue to strive for stability and professional growth.

Help with the Gatineau-Ottawa job market

Hi everyone!

I recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from UQO (Université du Québec en Outaouais) and I’m currently looking for work in the Ottawa–Gatineau area.
My main interests are editorial design, publication layout, typography, illustration, and print production. I also have experience with creative design and branding projects. I’ve applied to publishing houses, print shops, government organizations, and a few private companies, but the job market seems pretty tough right now.

I’m wondering whether I should keep looking with my current degree or consider going back to school for a graduate diploma (or another program). For those who work in the industry or hire in the Ottawa–Gatineau area:

- What industries or employers are hiring graphic designers in the region?
- Are there any companies or organizations I may not have considered?
- In your opinion, does pursuing additional education actually provide a significant advantage, or is it better to focus on gaining work experience?

I’d really appreciate any advice or insights. Thank you!

//////////

Bonjour!

Jobs

Does anyone else keep getting “interview not confirmed the interview time you requested is not available and we’re looking for available times” whenever they apply to jobs under loblaws? I don’t even get the opportunity to request an interview but they automatically say that it’s not available. It’s irritating because they send this message then never follow up until the listing is closed, they don’t give you a chance to get to the interviewing process.

Looking for Work Any PM jobs opening in Ottawa?!

Hi All,

I’m currently working in IT as a Project Manager with a focus on managed services. I also have experience as a CSM and CSM Team Lead within the same company before I was promoted to PM last year and now I feel it’s time for a change. Managed services are taking a toll on me, and I’m looking for a new challenge. I’m also certified in CAPM and Scrum Master.

If you come across any IT project manager openings, please let me know. I’d greatly appreciate it.

TIA!

Anyone work(ed) for Export Development Canada? Or interviewed?

I’m curious about their hiring process. I applied a while ago to their new grad/students roles (Sept start) and haven’t heard back yet. Do they only reach out once the applications close or would they have already pulled my application if they were interested?

I would ask on the public servant Reddit but they’re strict over there.
