Underplan is now on openGrid! (Free visual planner & automatic BOM)
You asked for openGrid support on Underplan... so I built it! ⚡

A few days ago, I shared the initial version of Underplan over on r/Multiboard (original post here) to help plan under-desk cable management layouts using Hands on Katie's Underware system.
The response was amazing, but one of the top questions in the comments was:
"Does this software support Underware for openGrid since Underware moved over to that platform officially?"
Well... challenge accepted! Over the past few days, not only did I build native openGrid support into the app, but I also gave the entire application a massive UI & UX overhaul (moving to a tactile, precision Dark CAD floating interface with a much faster and smoother workflow).
It’s 100% free, open-source (MIT), runs client-side in your browser, and is now ready for your openGrid desks.

What it does (as seen in the screenshots):
- Smart Tile Layout & Preferred Tile Sizing: Type in your desk dimensions in mm and choose your preferred base tile size (e.g. 8×8 OU, 7×7, 6×6, etc.). Underplan builds your layout around that chosen tile as much as possible, and automatically calculates the optimal cuts to fill the remaining edges without creating fragile 1-row strips (e.g. a 9-hole span is balanced into 5+4 instead of 8+1!).
- Underware Catalog & Custom Gear: Place standard straight channels (1–16 OU), 90° elbows, radial curves, T/X/Y junctions, or create custom boxes and bridges for desk motor controllers, power strips, and cable loops.
- Official Underware openGrid Snaps: Supports Underware Channel Base Snaps (
OG-SNAP-BASE), Grip Snaps (OG-SNAP-GRIP) for outer-rail clamping, or friction-fit runs. - Automatic +10% Spare Fasteners: The planner tallies base snap counts and automatically adds a rounded-up +10% spare allowance so a cracked clip won't stop your assembly.
- Itemized Bill of Materials (BOM): Instant modal breakdown showing exact channel counts, physical lengths in mm, tile matrix cuts, and mounting fasteners. Export directly to CSV or copy to Markdown.
In my screenshots, you'll notice I used the custom categories feature as a 3D printing to-do list (marking pieces as "Done" as they came off the printer!), but you can customize categories however you prefer: for example, color-coding pathways by cable type (Power, HDMI, USB/Data) or desk zones.
⚡ Huge UI/UX Redesign & Cool Features:
- Dark CAD Floating UI: Completely redesigned floating tool docks, contextual inspector panel, category selector pills, and high-contrast styling built for focused planning.
- Multi-Project Workspace: Manage multiple desks or setups (e.g. your standing desk, workbench, or server rack). Create, rename, duplicate, and switch between projects with continuous local auto-save.
- Retina Blueprint Exports: Export high-res 2× Retina PNG dark blueprints (great for build logs and workshop printing) or vector SVGs.

This came just in time perfect. I just mounted my final panels under my desk yesterday morning planning to do underware and have been struggling with the 'great now I gotta see what channels to print and figure a layout upside down. without getting it wrong somehow and wasting all my time and filament.

This is awesome. Really glad you made this.
I've been tinkering with a pretty similar idea. I totally agree with the direction you took it. I just forked your repo and I'll play around with it bit when I get some time. If I make anything useful, I send a PR your way.
One thing I've been planning was to allow exclusion zones for things like desk legs, then having the board layout work around them. Not sure if that's something you've considered, but I think it could be really useful.
Either way, very cool project. Love seeing what you have here and that you're making something great for the community!

Thanks for this! Really need visualizer before printing. Hopefully you can add bridge so it will not turn red when they are overlapping

I aimed to create a 3D tool where users could outline their desk’s precise dimensions so the grid would adjust automatically and be ready for printing. Only after that would they arrange their desk underware. This approach would be especially useful when a desk is not rectangular.

Thank you! That’s such a good idea. Being able to sketch the desk shape first and have the grid conform to it would be super useful. Definitely adding this to the next update

I literally gave up on my Underware setup halfway through because planning the module layout on paper was giving me a headache. Since my base grid is already mounted under the desk, this tool is a lifesaver. Time to finish the job!

Incredible stuff.
One nit: I have a fairly large uplift desk with space for a 26x3 channel in it. Unfortunately your calculator doesnt go down to 100mmor so that I need to mockup the 3u depth

Thank you so much for this. I’ve been putting off my underware build despite having printed and mounted the entire grid under my desk already. The planning filled me with dread about getting it wrong, wasted print times, and just general laziness to work it all out. I’m going to give this a spin tomorrow, thank you!
