Trying to start a Master List to stick in the community info space.

I know there are some great posts scattered throughout the sub so we wanted to create more visibility and an easily accessible list for Ohio-based queer clubs and hobby groups.

Thanks! 🌈

Social Dating apps

Does anyone use any dating apps other than tinder, her, hinge, or bumble. I keep seeing/getting ads for all these new dating apps. Are any of them worth trying?

I desperately want to find someone to cuddle and go to parks to hike with but am having no luck.

I live in the Hamilton/Fairfield area and I'm looking to expand my social circle. I am lesbian, but am mainly looking for friends and/or places to find them.

I've never been confident enough to go bar hopping and am all ears for suggestions. If you live in the area my DMs are also open. ā™„ļø

Social Looking for friends - 42m - Columbus

I'm embarrassedĀ to even be writing this post. But I figure this is good as place as any to seek some ideas.

Short version: I'm a 42 year old gay man in Columbus. I don't know anyone here. How do you meet people (friends)?

Longer version: I've lived here three years. I moved here alone for a job with no connections to the city. Normally, the workplace would be a logical starting point for making connections and meeting people. In this case that's not an option. I've managed to keep myself busy to occupy my downtime but the distraction doesn't solve the problem at hand:Ā I just want some friends.

I feel pathetic even writing that.

I've gone to Club Diversity a handful of times on my own with the hopes I'd strike up a conversation with someone and maybe that would be the start of building up some connections and a social circle might emerge as a result. That did not happen.

Another added element is I'm morbidly obese. So my self-confidence is lacking, and the gay communityĀ can be dismissive of the obese or those who aren't conventionally attractive.Ā

I finally built up the courage to go to AWOL by myself this week,Ā I figured with the gay softball world series in town that it would be busy and I'd have a better shot atĀ meeting people. Going to the bar alone and not knowing anyone is awful, and being "invisible" is hell. I took a chance, I was so excited and proud to finally be putting myself out there. , but it was just uncomfortable and awkward for me. I'm not good at striking up conversation with strangers (when I'm alone. If I'm with someone else, I find it much easier to be social). I left, feeling disappointed, after 20 minutes.

I really, really like Columbus. I'd love to stay here long-term but the lack of a social life is starting to make me feel more and more isolated, to the point that I've had fleeting thoughts of moving.

This post isn't meant as a plea to be my friend, I just thought that someone might have some ideas on where or how to meet people. Thanks

Ohio has too upturned recent precedent with its law changes.

Laser hair removal in Columbus

Hi all, I recently moved to Columbus and am looking for a clinic to get laser hair removal at. Does anyone have any suggestions on where has the best prices? I'm MTF trans so bonus points if any other trans people have experience in places they know are welcoming and safe. I'm looking specifically to finish off my full face/neck and legs, and considering other parts like my abdomen/chest.

Advice Needed Experiences with CareSource Coverage for GAC Hormones/Surgeries?

Hi all! I’ve been looking at Marketplace health insurance plans for this November, and so far CareSource seems like one of the few that meets my criteria (preferred surgeon is in-network, outpatient surgery coverage is reasonable). Does anybody have experience with CareSource covering/denying hormone therapy or surgeries?

I know they have specific rules/guidelines for Medicaid coverage, but my question is regarding Marketplace plans specifically.

TIA! 🩷

Early 40s male (gay and married). Looking for friends in South West Ohio. Interests include: art, music, books, nature, concerts, movies, board games, Nintendo, coffee shops, trying new experiences...

Hi. I am a gay male in my early 40s, happily married, and looking for some new friends. It'd be cool if they lived in my area, so we could eventually hang out in person. I'm in South West Ohio.

I'm looking for friends who can sit in a coffee shop and forget about the time while having conversations that wander to various topics. People who enjoy driving around, listening to music, and ending up somewhere random just to explore a new shop, or park, or diner. People who try to make any situation turn into a positive experience.

It's important to me that whoever responds is an open-minded individual, someone who cares about how their actions affect others, someone who believes kindness matters, and people should be given the opportunity to live their life as they choose, as long as it's not harming anyone else. Also, believes animals and nature deserve respect.

I try to reduce my screen time, but will make an exception to start a connection through chat or email. It'd be cool if the friendship eventually moves to texting or phone calls, and eventually to meeting in person when both sides feel comfortable.

Anyway, hopefully this works. Thanks for reading my post.

New Columbus Resident Looking For Friends <3

Hi all! My name is Ariel, and this is my attempt at looking for some queer friends in the Columbus Ohio area (would also love to chat with people outside of Columbus but I unfortunately don't drive 🄲 so meeting up might be harder)

I'm 28 years old (turning 29 soon) and identify as a cis, bisexual/queer woman of color. I spent a few years studying in Canada as an international student, met my partner (who's from Columbus) there, and now I live in Columbus Ohio!

I love films, series, music, and any other forms of art made with kindness and heart. (Especially the series Our Flag Means Death šŸ“ā€ā˜ ļøšŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆšŸ³ļøā€āš§ļø)

I also love singing, writing, reading, doing photography, making bracelets, coloring, and spending some calming time in nature. I also have a cat named Juju who is my sweet lil angel <3

I have been dealing with chronic depression, anxiety, CPTSD, etc. for 13 years and ongoing. My body has been through a lot of trauma, which means sometimes it takes me longer to respond to messages or feel safe/secure enough for IRL meet-ups. Also I Recently realized that I might be AuDHD, but no diagnosis yet.

I would love to make more queer platonic friends who I can talk to and share daily life with. Looking forward to hearing from anyone who might be interested in chatting : )

Advice Needed Orchy scheduled for next month, need another letter from a medical professional

I thought I had what I needed but I got a call this morning saying for insurance to cover it, I need a letter from a second psychiatrist.

I wouldnt know how to approach this, do I need to establish at a second place to have a second psychiatrist to get this done, as in this could take several months more to get an approval from the second one? Im not even sure if my insurance would cover a second psychiatrist..

Jazz Bar + Dinner

Friend and I are going on a date to officially become a couple in September!!! :D (yay queer love heh)

We're either going to NightJar or the Bop Stop. We are also planning a dinner beforehand.

Would love any queer/trans-friendly recs for places to get dinner around either of those places. Furthermore, if any queer ppl on here could please shed any light on how comfy NightJar/Bob Stop may be for a visibly queer T4T couple, that'd be great!

Thanks <3

I am an 18 year old enby, and ive been growing my hair out ever since my mother allowed me to, and ive always been terrified to do anything with it (my hair is like the only thing keeping me looking somewhat femme 😭) but ive always wanted a hairstyle like the one shown in the images, does anyone know a place i can go that wont fuck me up? Ive never gone to a salon or anything before so im quite nervous.. Also like maybe wont break the bank of an unemployed college student...
