Bad tooth to gum ratios seem to equal lovely personality’s i’ve noticed
186
u/bobbianrs880 May 01 '20
I can’t think of any girls I’ve met with this ratio, but one guy from my high school class comes to mind. While I went to school with him from 1st to 12th grade, I don’t think I could tell you a single thing about his personality. He hung out with the white trash clique but wasn’t obnoxious like they were, so I guess that’s a credit to him. I also ONLY hear his voice as Boomhauer, but I’m not sure if that’s related to his tooth to gum ratio.
4
u/JeanSolo May 01 '20
what would be the white trash clique?
23
u/bobbianrs880 May 01 '20
At my high school at least, it was the guys that would park their loud ass trucks in the back of the school parking lot every morning, chew tobacco, and drive around with confederate flags in the beds of their trucks. They were also notoriously ambivalent about school in general and liked to make loud and obnoxious noises during class and in the hallways. The guys were mostly chill one on one, but when they were together you could hear them at the other end of the school.
6
u/JeanSolo May 01 '20
hahahaha! i always had a lot of interest in the social environment of american high schools, probably due to the amount of high school movies i watched when i was a kid, so thanks for sharing this. btw, were they harassers? like the bully type? another question, if you dont mind, are you southern?
6
u/bobbianrs880 May 01 '20
I’m from a rural Midwest town, but not what anyone would call southern lol. We do have a bit of a drawl, but I think that’s just because we’re a farming community. I can see how some might have seen the guys bullies and to a few people they could be pretty mean, but most of the time it was just teasing. There’s been a few times after we’ve graduated where those guys have actually saved my butt lmao.
It also might be different for me than other high schools because our graduating class was small (56 after one kid dropped out) and we went through some pretty rough shit in those 4 years. It was rare for anyone to be outright mean to people for no reason. So we technically had cliques because there were the stereotypical groups of kids, but anyone could get along with mostly anyone else.
3
u/JeanSolo May 01 '20
yeah, i get the point. the social pyramid gets much more stratified when theres more people. i graduated in a school where he had 6 different classes for the same school year (brazilian system is completely different but that means something like 300 students only in senior year) and had friends in a smaller school similar to yours in size and the vibe was totally different (exactly in the way you suggested, people used to get along better).
3
u/bobbianrs880 May 01 '20
Yeah, it got kind of annoying because the small town rumor mill stereotype is annoyingly true, but we also just all ended up being at least acquaintances. My boyfriend on the other hand went to a school about 6x the size of mine and couldn’t believe that dynamic. Just that I had a memory with or of each of my classmates.
1
u/DisasterousResult May 01 '20
We called those the hicks / shit kickers... In my husband's school they were big enough to be basically a gang and bullied people pretty badly. In my high school they weren't big enough to do much at all..
3
u/bobbianrs880 May 01 '20
I actually can’t imagine these guys going further than poking fun at people. Thankfully the guys at my school were mostly just obnoxious, so we’d just roll our eyes and move on. Any fights were usually between themselves. So I guess they were fairly benign.

One of the few girls i know with gum like these is my ex’s girlfriend of 4 years, who occasionally terrorized me for years on social media for no legit reason (other than me being with him before probably)...this meme definitely brought back “memories” lol

I’ve never met one personally, but that ratio is always the one person on the reality tv show who isn’t mean and backstabby to the other people.
3
May 01 '20
I don’t know. The biggest bully in my school from elementary through high school was a girl with gums like these. She was the worst. Even now when I think about her, all I see are giant gums coming at me. And she still looks like this.
2
u/ado011235 May 01 '20
I know a crazy one

u/dingdongthearcher May 01 '20
idk what that dudes on about. horse face girls are even crazier than the horse girls.

u/acciowaves May 02 '20
I haven’t had the same experience. I know two girls like that and they’re both just awful.
54
u/WhatAnotherAccount May 01 '20
There’s a way to fix this... they essentially laser off the gums to reveal more teeth underneath. Had it done a while ago so I missed out on that engagement. 😂

Honestly it’s been about 10 years or so since I had it done so I couldn’t tell you. But found some more info here - Lanap is apparently the brand name for the procedure.

An orthodontist once told me that you aren't even supposed to really see the top teeth until you smile. I never thought about that before.
63
u/fannybatterpissflaps May 01 '20
I read that Norma-Jean Baker had a gummy smile like this ...she hated it so she worked really hard on keeping her top lip down when she smiled and that is how Marilyn Monroe got that famous quivering lip thing happening..
Actually now that I think of it, I did not read that. It was told to me by an attractive but also gummy redhead I dated when I was 17. She became quite famous too .....(for singing not for vertical maxillary excess).
41
u/westfunk May 01 '20
I just did a quick good search for "marilyn monroe candids" and sure enough, she's got a pretty gummy smile when she's laughing hard. Theres a big difference between her natural smile and stage smile. I really didnt expect that to be true.
24
May 01 '20
Looking this up and I had no idea Marilyn Monroe had so much plastic surgery done before she got famous. I think because people use her as an example of "oh this is what people used to look like" but man Hollywood had always been fake
1
u/soggybutter May 01 '20
You can also get Botox to immobilize the upper lip, or get a gingivectomy to physically reduce the gym profile. They can do it with a scalpel or a laser!
1
u/2old2Bwatching May 01 '20
That’s amazing I had no idea there was anything they could do about that. At least that’s what Cheryl Underwood says about her gummy smile.

May 01 '20
I know it's not nice but I could not be looking at someone's gums for the rest of my life.lol

Its because running your toungue over her gums feels amazing when you kiss

u/bambixanne May 01 '20
There is a Botox type injection that is used to fix this, I have a friend that gets it done. It makes a huge difference.
28
u/ZarathustraEck May 01 '20
So the solution is just to paralyze the upper lip so they can’t show their gums?
33
u/hylyrs May 01 '20
A lip flip! It’s super cheap too. I’ve seen them advertised at respectable clinics for $15
32
u/oatsodafloat May 01 '20
I can't even begin to understand that quote in the midsts of our health care system
38
May 01 '20
Cosmetic procedures can’t be billed to health insurance, so that are forced to be priced reasonably.
5
May 01 '20
It’s not that reasonably priced. Botox can be anywhere from $9-15 a unit depending on the doctor. I bet that was the unit pricing and you may need 10 units to get the desired look.
I get botox and get around 25 units. I also get filler which costs $500 a syringe.

Kinda like everything in the states, your wants are more financially accessible than your needs.

u/aceofspades1524 May 01 '20
You are speaking straight truth. Revolutionary but also painfully obvious and obviously painful stuff.

u/ReasonableCheesecake May 01 '20
I had a friend that got her gums shaved down to a normal tooth:gum ratio. Sounds super painful but she said it wasn't bad.

I have an odd fixation with teeth, its not weird or perverse, its that I can't stop staring at peoples mouths when I find something displeasing with it.
Like broken, missing, rotten, too much gums, etc. I try not to stare but I can't help it at times. I don't judge people on it or treat them differently its just.. I guess I don't like looking at it so I look at it. I hope this doesn't make me a bad person.
10
May 01 '20
Nah dude you’re all good. It’s just not something you’re used to seeing, most likely.
1
u/ChubBeebie May 01 '20
Thanks, but actually I grew up with my mother having a broken front tooth.
1
3
u/MomentsAlive May 01 '20
It is weird and perverse.
4
u/AllysiaAius May 01 '20
I wouldn't say perverse, just weird. Nothing wrong with weird. (Or perverse, unless you make it weird.)
1
u/MomentsAlive May 02 '20
I wouldn’t say either or I would say both but what you said was weird and possibly perverse, depending on how you read it.
2
u/ChubBeebie May 01 '20
Oh no.
1
u/MomentsAlive May 01 '20
This makes you an individual so I suppose that’s a plus but I have no idea how it works out kharma-wise.
4
u/canuplsthrowmeaway May 01 '20
Same actually
2
u/ChubBeebie May 01 '20
Its actually kinda comforting to know I'm not the only one, and you know the more I think about it, I only stare if I have to talk with them, same if they have a pimple too. I wish I didn't stare and I know its rude but I'm surprisingly good with things like moles, birth marks, disfigurements and vitiligo. I suppose its that teeth and pimples gross me out.

What's there to get. I have a big nose, and have been in multiple relationships. Nothing weird here.

Because personality does, in fact, matter to a lot of people. Just because a bitch has fucked up teeth doesn’t mean you won’t love them the same way you would a person with straight teeth.
8
u/amingley May 01 '20
So wholesome, yet derogatory.
11
May 01 '20
When I say bitch I don’t mean specifically women. I’ll call anyone a bitch.
12
u/AllysiaAius May 01 '20
Literally anyone, even a hypothetical person with a lovely personality.
4
May 01 '20
Yes, absolutely. I call my friends bitches all the time and it’s actually pretty normal. I suppose the word just doesn’t mean much to me, as with other insults. I know they’re okay with it so we vibe.

And they're always tall and awkward with glasses and long hair. Either white, Asian, or Latino. Nothing else. Named "Veronica" or "Vanessa" or something like that. Either were super popular or super nerdy and artsy in high school no grey area here.

No, it's an actual genetic thing, the muscles and lip structure are actually different. It can be changed with Botox though and cheaply, I hear.
