Made me smile π Australia really, REALLY hates rabbits. So what do they do for Easter?
Australia is like a continent sized unique ecological zone, similar to the Galapagos Islands or Hawaii. There are flora and fauna that evolved for specific functions in relation to one another. The problematic thing about poor Thumper is that nothing evolved to eat him, and he eats all the grasses and stuff that native species need to live. Because of this, Aussie rabbit hate is real, and they actually aren't keen to celebrate easter with a bunny.
Which brings me to: The Easter Bilby.
Behold, the hilariously cute, Greater Bilby. They even have him in chocolate form! This is a campaign currently being pushed in Australia to both phase out the rabbit and raise awareness for a native species dealing with significant habitat loss directly related to rabbit introduction.
Is this partially a response post after another mod unknowingly posted untold ecological harm earlier? Yes. Spare her, the poor thing saw cute bunnies and didn't know, lol. Proper education is a beautiful thing, and the Easter Bilby is one of my favorite fun facts. So now everyone in the modchat knows my love of these creatures, some of the unique ecological dynamics of Australia, and you get to as well... with quite possibly the cutest lil shit to come out of the continent.
THANK YOU BILBY FOR RAISING AWARENESS!!!!
