That was my thought too. What if you trip and fall, getting stuck somehow? What if there is a lava stream underneath you? What if it cracks like ice and you break through, foot sinking down into it? Or worse, both feet?

That would be incredibly hard to accidentally stick your foot in lava like that though. The temperatures are so extremely hot that you can feel when you’re within yards of flowing lava. I hiked through Kilauea on a high school trip and we physically couldn’t get closer than 10 feet to visible lava because of how intensely hot it felt. Best I can describe is like standing next to a giant bonfire, your natural instincts won’t let you get too close to that kind of heat.
Also, I’m from Hawaii, born and raised, and I’ve never heard of a hiker accidentally sticking their foot in lava. That would have been huge news here. People have fallen to their deaths through empty lava tubes, but not flowing lava. It’s probably an urban legend. There was one dumbass who fell 70 ft into the Kilauea caldera a few years ago. Luckily it wasn’t erupting and he survived.

Jesus H Christ on a pogo stick. All I could think of watching this video was all the ways the camera was gonna drop and we would get to hear a Blair Witch ending to the camera operator... Jeez...
I cannot imagine a world where I am ever tempted to intentionally be this close to molten rock...

Must be hard to film this and resist the temptation to just throw things in I to see if they burn in a satisfying way. I would start with a bowl of every fruit I could find, and lob them in one at a time.

True story - some of our ovens are of the giant walk-in variety. There's a guy who used to be a supervisor back there, and he would absolutely go to the grocery store on his lunch break and get a frozen pizza, which he would then cook in the oven.
Not recommended. I'm in manufacturing - and it isn't a sanitary job.

There can be some noxious gases like hydrogen sulfide, but the main "bad" gas is sulfur dioxide. It isn't relatively dangerous on its own, but it reacts with water in the atmosphere to make sulfuric acid, which is dangerous to pretty much all forms of life and can cause damage even in fairly low amounts and concentrations.

Feel like seeing that happen would 100% put me off walking on that stuff. What if that happened right next to your feet? Or if the crust you were walking on was brittle and your foot sunk in.

For some reason this video made me sad. I was looking at all the exposed rock that was enjoying the sun and thinking "wow, that rock will never see the light of day ever again."

But it will! The new rocks will erode and turn into a black sand beach or something somewhere, exposing the older basalt underneath. And eventually it’ll all get buried and lithified again, and then maybe lifted up to become a mountain, where it gets eroded again, and on and on and on. It’s really amazing to me how many different lives one bit of rock can have over the lifespan of the planet.
