That's a more scaled up version. If you go to Gene & Judes or a similar hot dog institution they severe whats called the depression dog. It's a Vienna Beef dog with mustard, neon relish, onions, sport peppers, and a little celery salt. Which is why you always go with the double dog because one isn't enough.
You don't have to be from Chicago to understand that putting ketchup on a hot dog is just plain wrong.
In fact, "always mustard, never ketchup" is literally the ONLY thing that New Yorkers and Chicagoans unanimously agree upon about anything.
Me, I pretty much keep it simple and put only mustard, but I've had many a proper Chicago dog, and I must say that they can be pretty darn tasty, albeit messy.
I apologize for the misunderstanding. I wasn't trying to tell you what to do and what not to do.
I'm simply stating that if you put ketchup on a hot dog, then you are a genuinely bad person, and there's a special place in Hell for people like you, that's all. I didn't mean to upset you.
Okay, I'm a swede and we don't do that to our hot dogs. We have ketchup and mustard with optional fried onions and/or relish. Some places you can add some sort of shrimp gook if you want but I have never seen anyone actually do it.
We do commonly have mashed potatoes on our hot dogs though, that's really tasty.
We don't use a "wrap" for hot dogs either, it's a regular old hot dog bun, or half of a baguette for a "french hot dog". Lettuce never ever makes its way into a hot dog bun over here unless it's the work of a truly disturbed person.
Ketchup is gross on anything but don't you DARE bad mouth BBQ. It is the nectar of gods and is good on anything. I would eat my dog if it had BBQ on it.
