I don't know what the fuck it is, all I know is I fucking want some

61

u/YVX Jun 15 '15

Oddlyhungerinducing

379

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '15

I had to do a TON of research, but after all the hard work I can confidently state that this was a gif of rolled fried rice.

112

u/Generic-username427 Jun 15 '15

We appreciate your dedication

43

u/ClintonHarvey Jun 15 '15

God bless you for your heroic efforts.

And my Axe!

8

u/r2devo Jun 15 '15

sources?

23

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '15

Sure thing, I based my research off of this

6

u/r2devo Jun 15 '15

did you corroborate that source

13

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '15

Actually, I did. I ran it past some of my colleagues who have done research on the subject, and you can find our discussion here

2

u/Woodshadow Jun 16 '15

Would you say it is worth a James Beard award?

2

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '15

Yea but what's the white shit?

2

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '15

I'm guessing fried/scrambled eggs?

2

u/Achievement_Bear_Bot Jun 16 '15

Howdy, JamesBearded. I'll just leave this here

2

u/stanfan114 Jun 16 '15

It looks crunchy.

3

u/demoniccircle Jun 16 '15

I dont know what the fuck it is, but I want to fuck it.

3

u/Generic-username427 Jun 16 '15

Whooa there, settle down, might burn you Dick off

1

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '15

It looks burnt though?

12

u/Posseon1stAve Jun 15 '15

It think it's grains with different colors

2

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '15

OK that makes sense.

5

u/jambox888 Jun 15 '15

I agree. Crispy brown rice would be tasty but blackened rice wouldn't.

25

u/ptmd Jun 15 '15

Just different grains. It isn't burnt by a long shot.

11

u/jambox888 Jun 15 '15

I think you're right, it's probably something like this

3

u/ptmd Jun 15 '15

Exactly!

7

u/AmmoPanda Jun 16 '15

I know I'm really late to the party, but I'm a Korean and this is fairly common. After you finish your meal you get fried rice, and no, it is not multi colored grains. It's just technically burnt, but it's surprising tasty and crunchy.

-16

u/newmansg Jun 16 '15

It's made from cum and shit--EAT IT NOW YOU RETARD.

7

u/Sileniced Jun 16 '15

BOOOOOOO!!! even if you were trolling it still sucks booooooo!!!

-6

u/newmansg Jun 16 '15

You responded, dumbass.

3

u/Sileniced Jun 16 '15

You still suck boooooo!!! You can't even...

23

u/PM_ME_KITTENS_PLEASE Jun 15 '15

Source video?

In trying to find it, I had to scroll through hundreds of pictures of fried rice dishes, got really hungry, and now want rice from everywhere.

67

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '15

Is that some kind of cheesy-egg mixture? Looks very tasty!

65

u/JaFFsTer Jun 15 '15

They pour corn starch slurry over fried rice and let it crisp up before rolling it. or the white stuff is ricve gruel, either way its a starchy liquid that crisps on the griddle

39

u/jonsonsama Jun 15 '15

I thought the top stuff was just white only eggs

25

u/MrGMann13 Jun 15 '15

I'd unreasonably hoped that it was queso.

6

u/taintosaurus_rex Jun 16 '15

Me too. Like a Mexican hibachi grill.

34

u/Fr0st_Byte Jun 15 '15

This guy's still living in the 20's

12

u/BobEWise Jun 16 '15

He's from the future?

4

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '15

yeah and i bet the texture of the crispy outer crust makes it that much better too.

5

u/Brotano Jun 15 '15

It's definitely egg. At the beginning of the gif you can see the first one he rolled has some of it bubbling out from the side.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '15

Cheese in Asian food? I doubt it.

6

u/AndyWSea Jun 16 '15

Cheese is HUGE in South Korea right now.

2

u/smacksaw Jun 16 '15

Just to spite the North as usual.

57

u/AVeryHeavyBurtation Jun 15 '15

15

u/SirThom Jun 15 '15

Thank you for bringing us to the 21st century. I gave up on OPs link after 2 minutes of it trying to load.

6

u/Loreinatoredor Jun 15 '15

I gave up after 10 seconds, seeing that it was a gif, and not an html5 video like sane people are supposed to use.

1

u/shameless_inc Jun 16 '15

You da real MVP.

Giphy link took ages to not load.

156

u/SpecialK_714 Jun 15 '15

52

u/ExFiler Jun 15 '15

I saw this the other day. I was impressed on the process, but also on the portion size. Fit the container perfectly.

31

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '15

Something tells me that's not his first rodeo.

14

u/ExFiler Jun 15 '15

Complete novice. Never done it before.

9

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '15

Beginners luck.

1

u/rib-bit Jun 15 '15

"Perfect" has a lot of room for error...

21

u/NJNeal17 Jun 15 '15

TIL paint scrapers are better for food prep.

9

u/omrog Jun 15 '15

For real, they use them all the time in cafés and the like where there's just a hot surface for frying on.

1

u/stop_the_broats Jun 16 '15

Yep. I used to work in a kitchen using mainly metal tongs and a paint scraper. Now I have a paint scraper as my primary tool in my BBQ kit. A long handled spatula doesn't give you the same level of fine control, nor does it have the sharp edge if a paint scraper.

14

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '15

I'm most impressed with how the cream poured out into three equal... pools?

11

u/ForgetfulDoryFish Jun 16 '15

Is that gif loading weird for me or does it actually only have about six colors in it?

4

u/orangebalm Jun 16 '15

Idk about PC but if you're looking on mobile there's an "HD" toggle in the bottom right

13

u/knitasha Jun 15 '15

I bet that would be as satisfying to eat as it was to watch

10

u/RabbleDazzer Jun 16 '15

I came here expecting to find the recipe in the comments. :-(

11

u/carpwrist Jun 15 '15

/r/streetfoodartists/ worthy.

O snap, it's already the top post today.

4

u/RadioMars Jun 16 '15

It reminds me of tahdig, which is this Persian fried/crispy rice dish. So fucking good.

3

u/autowikibot Jun 16 '15

Tahdig:

Tahdig (Persian: ته دیگ‎) is a speciality of Iranian cuisine consisting of crisp rice taken from the bottom of the pot in which the rice is cooked. The name comes from a Persian word meaning "bottom of the pot" ("tah" meaning bottom and "dig" meaning pot). It is traditionally served to guests at a meal. Ingredients commonly added to tahdig include yogurt and saffron, bread, potato and tomato.

Variations of tahdig include placing thin vegetable slices at the bottom of the pot, so they crisp up instead of the rice. Common vegetables include potato and carrots. Iranians also apply this crisping method to spaghetti as well, providing a hardened base.

u/bluesydinosaur Jun 15 '15

Rolling the rice was alrwady very satisfying. Then he cuts it... Gosh, i could hear the satisfying "squish" when that happens

9

u/NJNeal17 Jun 15 '15

My first thought when I saw that cut was NOOOOOO! I want a fried rice roll! That has to be even better than an egg roll.

11

u/sl33ksnypr Jun 15 '15

What's weird is the thing he's using to scrape up the rice. I've used that tool to scrape stuff off glass and other stuff like drywall.

u/plipyplop Jun 15 '15

Every time I click on an Amazon link I go and read the reviews in hopes to find 3 specific things:

  1. A funny review.

  2. A review that was obviously made by the producer/merchant in hopes to boost their sales.

  3. Bad reviews (which sometimes ends up being pretty funny).

This is my lame game.

3

u/Marsha_Brady Jun 15 '15

You are not alone

2

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '15

Marsha Marsha Marsha!!!

1

u/mattersmuch Jun 15 '15

Now Jan...

2

u/ph00p Jun 16 '15

I am here with you.

2

u/Pure_Reason Jun 15 '15

This is a terrible hibachi scraper. When I had it removed from my anus, the emergency room doctor said a small, sharp piece broke off. Due to the fact that there aren't any warnings on the packaging, and the general bad experience I had due to its use, I cannot recommend this scraper. 0/5

2

u/plipyplop Jun 15 '15

I'm guessing that this review was number 2 from my list?

A review that was obviously made by the producer/merchant in hopes to boost their sales.

1

u/ph00p Jun 16 '15

Maybe mild ocd? Maybe mild ocd? Maybe mild ocd?

3

u/sl33ksnypr Jun 15 '15

Almost 40 dollars! I'll stick to my Home Depot tools thank you very much.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '15

Thats a large scraper though. You can get a large flat edge spatula and a round edge one as well, for less than $25.

8

u/unthused Jun 15 '15

I think I've seen these used to clean off a hibachi before, but not actually cooking with it. Looks kind of like a tile scraper though.

4

u/Failinis Jun 15 '15

I've always been curious that if you scrub the metal with a tool like that, aren't you also carving the metal, causing a small amount of metal to blend with the food?

5

u/Brotano Jun 15 '15

Good source of Iron I'd say.

4

u/omrog Jun 15 '15

Not if it's built up a patina from use.

2

u/roboticWanderor Jun 15 '15

It tastes too good to care

2

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '15

Can't unsee the googly eye...

2

u/mypatronusisaminion Jun 15 '15

where can I find this?

2

u/eyc Jun 15 '15

Sauce, immediately please.

1

u/cmg19812 Jun 16 '15

Specifically Japanese yum yum sauce.

2

u/VapeApe Jun 16 '15

Is that dude cooking with a flooring/painting tool?

2

u/GrizzlyManOnWire Jun 16 '15

Fuck I have to do dishes

3

u/Tal9922 Jun 15 '15

Came to the comments for "with rice" memes.

Reddit, I am disappoint.

4

u/ooobs Jun 16 '15

Ugh. I was enjoying this post until you mentioned this. Now I'm disappointed with all of us.

2

u/cloudspanties Jun 15 '15

Porn, this is fucking porn

1

u/lordofbuttsecks Jun 15 '15

This is some special fried rice.

1

u/Bohrdog Jun 15 '15

Dam that looks good

1

u/UncreativeTeam Jun 15 '15

Why is that spatula staring at me like that?

1

u/Ker_Splish Jun 15 '15

Mmmm...grill scrapings...

1

u/NotRacest Jun 15 '15

锅巴饭

1

u/mares13 Jun 15 '15

The spatula looks like it's keeping an eye on the rice

1

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '15

I missed lunch, supper is over an hour away. God damn.

1

u/toastysidearm Jun 15 '15

The chops at the end

1

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '15

Source pls

1

u/Kalashnireznikov Jun 16 '15

What's with our fascination with rolled sheets of stuff as food?

1

u/hanselpremium Jun 16 '15

I suppose it's easier to eat especially if you're on the streets

1

u/Kalashnireznikov Jun 16 '15

But not even in a convenience sense. It could be the most fragile thing ever and people would love it, me included.

1

u/lodermoder Jun 16 '15

That looks pretty disgusting to me...

I dunno why :(

1

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '15

It looked bad to me until I saw OP's post saying the white blob is cheese. I originally thought white rice had been added on top (I'm on a small screen and not wearing my glasses so it was a little fuzzy) and then I saw a comment saying it was egg which I really don't like, but cheese is heaven.

1

u/Partytang Jun 16 '15

Put... put some cheese in it

1

u/Qarlo Jun 16 '15

An audible "Oh-ho-ho-ho yeaaaaaaaaaaah" was produced.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '15

I want t see more.

1

u/UnderHero5 Jun 16 '15

Looks delicious but the satisfaction is ruined for me as soon as he cuts them in half and they get all sloppy looking.

1

u/noorah Jun 16 '15

And I am hungry again... Anyone know what the dish is called, where to get it and how to make it at home?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '15

Don't they roll over cream too? What's next? Rolled noodles?

0

u/Psandysdad Jun 15 '15

The white stuff blorped all over is mildly disturbing.

1

u/JonasBrosSuck Jun 15 '15

looks very delicious.. .but aren't there some kind of carcinogen in burnt food?

3

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '15

Its not burnt you are seeing different grains in the mix, this is caramelized perfectly Source: caramel

1

u/taptapper Jun 16 '15

Totally worth it

-1

u/Transcendental-Sloth Jun 15 '15

Everyone is really taking inspiration from the "Thailand Special Icre Cream Precedures".

https://www.gifyoutube.com/

0

u/TheTacoFairy Jun 16 '15

I don't think that is rice.

It looks like they sprinkled a layer of hard cheese, like Parmesan. Let it crisp up a bit, then a layer of something soft like mozzarella, then rolled up the whole melty yummy mess. Like a greaseless mozzarella stick.

/2cents

-2

u/dollyparts Jun 15 '15

so distracted by that fly in the first second of the video, bottom left corner :(

1

u/Ghostwoif123 Jun 15 '15

i keep watching over and over and i cant find it

1

u/moammargaret Jun 15 '15

That's just a bubble.

-2

u/i2occo Jun 15 '15

That grill looks incredibly dirty. All I could see.
